Grants talk:Project/MSIG/DCW/Leadership development and skills infrastructure plan
Add topicWho is who?
[edit]Dear @YPam (WMF), following DCW's call for a researcher, we selected a research scholar from Jamia Millia Islamia to work on this project as a researcher/assistant, under my lead. She has made her account at User:Affaf (DCW). Her responsiblity as outlined in the brief plan would be to help ascertain the need for this infrastructure, and then analyse/scrtunise already available such infrastructure, then help create certain skills infra/leadership development courses for the DCW inline with the choice-based-credit-system of some Indian universities, and then help in making a navigation as mentioned on the page. I will keep this section updated with the "who is who" whenever required for transparency. Best, ─ Aafi @ DCW (talk) 19:22, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @TheAafi (DCW) thank you for the update regarding "who is who" as well as the responsibilities that have been assigned. This is much appreciated and commendable, and we look forward to further updates as well. YPam (WMF) (talk) 23:44, 26 June 2023 (UTC)
Request for extension in grant-end date and some budget re-allocations
[edit]Hello @YPam (WMF): We seek an extension in the grant-end date from October 31 to February 28, 2024. This is to ensure that we collect enough feedback from academicians, educators, and other related people on the prototypes of the courses that we are designing. This would help our LDSI program and plan be more successful. Although we are done with the foundational tasks and courses can be prepared overnight but it is worthless because we do not feel that this would attract enough audience that we are wanting to target through these programs. The extra four months (November 2023-February 2024) would allow us to consult the people targeted (the academicians who are helping to offer the courses and the students who are willing to take the courses). We need to make sure that our courses attract them, and they stay connected and do not quit by taking a single course, for example. We would use this extra time, to work on the embelishment of the course prototypes during this time, and also do some trials to know what has been missed, and if these go well for our future development.
The reason for requesting an extension in the grant-end date is that we should be able to spend from the grant amount during these months. We are not seeking any stipends for the researcher/program lead for these additional four months.
The other request is for re-allocation of 30,000 INR (Graphics line) and 10,000 INR (Equipment line) to Unforeseen expenses line, as noted on this modified budget document. I hope these requested are considered so that we can make the best of this program. Thanks and regards, ─ Aafi @ DCW (talk) 11:32, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @TheAafi (DCW) The request for an extension on the timelines for the project is understood as we envision this translating to the impact envisaged on the project. This request is approved. This means that the new project end date is now February 29, 2024.
- Reallocation request
- More details are required regarding the budget reallocation request. How exactly does the team intent to spend the the 40,000 INR? Thank you, YPam (WMF) (talk) 13:22, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @YPam (WMF), Thanks. The 40,000 INR would be spent in, for instance, consulting some academicians who provide consultations on pay. The team felt that having an entire line of 30,000 INR for graphics was not relevant, and it would be better to have this in unforeseen line, so that we can spent it in any activity that arrives all of a sudden, like as consultancy, which we had not thought of before. The same has been felt about the equipment support line. We believe that it would better serve us in the "Unforeseen line" than in its current line. Even after reallocation, if we would need some amount for any equipment support, we can. However, given the current condition, we aren't able to think of doing activity that is beyond the realm of "Equipments" from the amount of 10,000 INR. Put together, the whole amount of 40,000 INR along with remaining amount from the Unforeseen line would be spent in required consultations as a fee, equipment support (if needed), graphics (if needed). We have also been thinking of doing an LDSI workshop/event at a university/center and we would need some support there as well (for example, institutional fee). However, there are some other aspects as well where we can spent the funds. Let me know if you have any questions. ─ Aafi @ DCW (talk) 13:55, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hi @YPam (WMF), I received your email and agree with your thoughts. Given your detailed thoughts, I have modified the budget-file, and request the following changes:
- INR 5000 be kept for equipment support line.
- INR 5000 be kept for graphics line.
- INR 30,000 be kept for consultations line/unforeseen.
- Best regards, ─ Aafi @ DCW (talk) 16:47, 19 September 2023 (UTC)

Re-allocation request following discussions and updates
[edit]Hello @YPam (WMF). It was nice to meet at WikiWomenCamp in New Delhi. I have had enough thoughts with my friends and colleagues on this project, and I am making this request on that basis. In the original budget file, we have three lines that remain unused: Graphics (30,000 INR), Translation services (25,000 INR) and Equipment Support (10,000 INR) - a total of 65,000 INR.
Please allow us to use an amount of 45,000 INR to hire a curriculum expert designer who would help us design a bundle of courses in line with UGC India's CBCS framework. This work would be done by the 20th of January 2024, after which the bundle will go out for editing and improvements by an expert editor, familiar with this framework.
We have had had in-person meetings, group discussions with academicians, and one-on-one meetings with students so far, and also conducted some online surveys targeting both the Wikimedians and non-Wikimedians in order to make our program more reasonable. We also recently helped start the Wiki Club Jamia (the initial number of students engaged with this is more than 60+, a quite promising number). This was supported by this leadership project, and we are supporting its first interactive workshop on November 15 as well, to add more to our needs assessment part.
Given this, we have identified a few places where we feel necessary to engage with students/our targeted audience to gain more insights on our needs assessment part - so that we can bring the best in the courses that we are preparing or deciding to prepare in between 20 December and 20 January. Given this, I request you to allocate the remaining budget of 20,000 INR to the Travel and Food/Accomodation line. I hope this request makes sense and look forward to bringing the best of this program. ─ Aafi @ DCW (talk) 18:59, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @TheAafi (DCW), your request to reallocate your current underspend is approved. All the best. YPam (WMF) (talk) 10:07, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
Request from grant-end extension
[edit]Hello @YPam (WMF): I hope this request finds you well. The work on this project is almost over including the contributions from a curriculum expert. The bundle had to go out for editing on 15 January 2024, which however due to my own incosistency in health has been stuck in a mid-way. I seek an extension of one-month to cope up with this situation. It will take me around two weeks to work on the file before I forward it to our editor for final revisions. We hope to have this ready soon in order to be used in our upcoming plan for April-September 2024. Could you please approve changing the end-date from February 29, 2024 to March 31, 2024? Best regards, ─ Aafi @ DCW (talk) 15:56, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello @TheAafi (DCW), sorry to hear about your health challenges, we hope that you are fully back to good health now. Your request for an extension on your grant reporting date to
