The Iranian Wikimedians User Group is an independent group of Wikimedians, which is serving as the regional affiliate for Iran. See also Affiliations Committee/Resolutions/Iranian Wikimedians User Group - Liaison approval, July 2015.

همئ پلان ایشینت که ایستفاده شه ایران ویکی‌میڈیا اصلین نامئ رقما و همئ چپتر بیت. هما په ای چیپتری جۆڑ کورتینێ خاتیرا مشغول‌ان و امیت دارن که به چینکه اینده‌ئین سالاني تا به وتي ای مخصدا بره‌سن.

Objectives and plans

  1. Promotion of Wikimedia projects and free content in general. To encourage the use of Wikimedia resources in education (at cultural centers, associations and universities);
  2. Outreach work in schools, universities and by social media to tell people about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects;
  3. Edit-a-thons to help Wikipedians/Wikimedians to enrich content;
  4. Participation in different cultural events including Iran national books exhibition and more;
  5. Photography trips and upload-a-thons to teach users how to upload images to Commons and how to use them;
  6. Community support: monitoring of current activities and the development status of Iranian projects (including Persian, Mazandarani, Gilaki, Kurdish wikis); Wikipedia 10 Iran
  7. Continuing work on Wikimedia Iran, although progress is slow.

Achievements

  • We and a group of Iranian FOSS activists who planned and ran a successful fundraiser to create a unique font for the Persian Wikipedia and its sister projects. In this campaign, with the help of 597 supporters, we raised enough money for our goal.

  • We plan to hold at least monthly Edit-a-thons on the Farsi Wikipedia to improve collaborations among volunteers; until now we have had several, but we plan to do it more often Our hub to coordinate this Edit-a-thons is located here.
