Lingua Libre/Occitan whistle

Lingualibre Occitan Whistle project is a pilot and demonstrator initiative on an endangered linguistic practice to audio document, valorize, raise awareness, help revitalization and ease e-learning of that extremely low resources linguistic practice. Current advancement is the following :

Objectif[edit]

Vidéo d'enregistrement d'« wikt:adishatz » en Occitan sifflé d'Aas par Philippe Biu, accompagnée par User:Hugo en résidence.

Première rencontre, présentation de l'objet (occitan sifflée), des acteurs, institutions et communautés supports, et d'un outils collaboratif aidant : Lingualibre.org.

Défis principaux[edit]

Les siffléments ont un niveau sonore supérieur au cadre accoustique habituel. Un microphone externe à la sensibilité réglable sera nécessaire pour mener à bien ce projet.

Une liste de mots fréquents a été mise en ligne ce dimanche, permettant de "charger une liste locale" lors de l'étape 3. Chercher : List:Oci/Unilex .

Description : variation sifflée de l'occitan, tous les mots d'occitan peuvent être sifflés. Le contexte aide la reconnaissance et compréhension.

Un autre test d'enregistrement afin de remédier à la saturation accoustique de l'Occitan sifflé, avec Philippe Biu et Hugo en résidence.

Maitrise native : 5~6 adultes.
Étudiants initiés : 40/anx8 = 320.
Réseau des langues sifflées : FR, ES, MA, HE, TR.

Uniqueness: IRL exhibition including a cartographic module derived from the participatory free data of Lingualibre and Wikidata.

Immersive map[edit]

After discussions in February 2023, User:Hugo en résidence proposed to explore the creation of an immersive, interactive and multimedia map allowing people to listen to the toponyms of the Ossau valley in whistled Occitan. This solution presents original materials —whistled language audios— via an equally innovative interface —a map to listen to a language in its territory—. Delphine Montagne helped align data on Wikidata, essential to the project. This module is now integrated into the aforementioned exhibition:

Next[edit]

In terms of project deliverables (contacts, training, recording) and tech (data alignment, web conceptualization, documentation), the initial phase of the project is closing.

If we wish, in May 2024 - parallel to the opening of the exhibition in Bayonne - we can make an effort to communicate about this project. (Some more assets here)

This project methodology and open source code serves as a boilerplate for other regional and endangered languages willing to put back their voices upon their ancestral lands.
