This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Gothic Wikipedia

I request administrator access to the Gothic Wikipedia, as I'm the ancient sysop of this wiki (got:User:Sajasazi), but since the automatic changes of password done by Brion Vibber, I lost acces to my account. Jacques Pirate has also asked for adminship on the wiki, but he doesn't know the language well enough, and it'll be easier for me to correct his mistakes if I got adminship, instead of telling him every time what he has to change.

If you haven't already, try contacting Brion on IRC. You can use the CGI:IRC gateway provided by Wikizine . He is usually in the channel #wikimedia-tech, using the nick "brion" or "brion-office." I personally would prefer for you to ask him first; I have no way of knowing if you and Sajasazi are the same person. There is an election on the Baurgs Brunna for both me(for permanant adminship) and Yadoenapya(as well, though how is differently). Unfortunately only three people currently regularily contribute to the wiki. One of these people - Manie - is absent, and the two others are Yadoenapya/Sajasazi and I. We have contacted Manie on his/her talk page about two days ago, but Manie has yet to respond at the time of writing. Komi Wikipedia

This Wiki has been totally aborted! It needs a "clean up", because some articles are in russian, and the most there is in komi is too short! Therefore I would be administrator on this wiki to make it beeing reborn.

Finnish Wikisource

I request sysop access for the user Vilu at the Finnish Wikisource, since the current bureacrat has been missing in all of the Wikimedia projects for the last six months. I'm bureaucrat currently at the Finnish Wiktionary, Wikibooks and Wikiquote, but not at the Wikisource.

Tagalog Wikibooks

I request sysop access on the Tagalog Wikibooks. I am the current administrator on the Tagalog Wiktionary and the former administrator of the Tagalog Wikibooks until it expired some time last year. Since then, while there is a semblance of a "community", the wiki has gotten very unruly and I would hope to clean it up (note also that perhaps all are unaware of this request process or even how to vote in support of an administrator).

Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.


Arabic Wikipedia

Hi, Iam user Tarawneh [2] from ar wiki. I resigned from Bureaucrat, checkuser, and Sysop lists in ar wiki a few months ago, according to policy the other checkuser ar:user:chaos was removed from the checkuser list [3], now ar wiki has new checkusers, and hence no reason , by policy , exists to keep chaos away from his rights. I had a chat with Cary, he agreed and he advised me to post a request here.

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

fa:User:حجت

There are revisions on different pages on Fa Wikipedia which contain personal information about a user, who have recently request all his personal information to be removed from page histories. I am a sysop there, and have discussed the matter with a local bureaucrat as well. I can hide them if I'm given temporary Oversight access. If this is not allowed, I can provide a steward (e.g. by email) with the exact list of revisions in question. Please advise. Huji 09:13, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Effeietsanders has cleared it to me on the IRC, that if this task is going to be done, it should be done by a steward. He also was not sure if this is going to be done at all. As I mentioned to him, the only thing that made us think it is not enough to confine ourselves to deleting the revisions (hiding them from the public) was the involvement of one of the sysops in the problem. Nevertheless, I agree with him that if other stewards also think of this task as unnecessary, we are not going to do this. Others' comments are appreciated. Huji 21:21, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note in English on your local user talk page. This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.


Lithuanian Wikipedia

Please remove administrator and burocrat access for these users:

Their intolerance of all other users is overwhelming. I have tried to initiate voting (you must gain consensus on the local wiki first) on whether they were really worth keeping their access, but it has been deleted. [5]. Some users of high value have willingly removed their administrator access (lt:user:algirdas (10 % of all articles)and lt:user:hugo) due to actions of Dirgela and Nomad, and moreover left lt.wikipedia.org (for instancelt:user:algirdas and lt:user:ooom, hopefully not for good). Some of their actions are untracable as they do changes with other IP's (like 213.164.120.72 dirgela) Please create a unmovable poll or disccusion for our users in the first page (other options are of course acceptable). Sorry, but I am not able to understand from the link above what the current state is.
The point "REZULTATAI" (sounds like result) has crossed out remarks... Is there a consensus on something? It does currently seem to me that it is not yet clear that there is wide support for de-sysop. Especially the comment on my user-talkpage is not making it very clear ("what is the meaning of this kinder garden").

Just a comment - voting has not yet formally started (by local rules it can be started only after some discussions, but Hugo.arg initiated them without discussing with anybody), and judging by the discussions there is no big support (4 out of 10, only one of those 4 users is really active on Lithuanian wikipedia, 2 are only active on Samogitian). Both administrators are accused mostly of non-admin activity (article editing) and for translating English Wikipedia rules (those rules do not come into action until approved by community). So, please do not trust any of the translations (of either sides) blindly, that includes Hugo.arg who has initiated this voting, so he cannot be objective. Knutux 04:26, 30 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Not done. I'm not sure whether sysopaccess is the best way to translate. If you are interested in translating the interface, please go to BetaWiki, and request translator status there to translate the interface. See this page to learn more about it. Yeah, the translations have already been done after I added a request to import the language PHP files from the Afrikaans Wikipedia on bugzilla. Gikuyu Wikipedia
