From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Translation extension now active

I have switched this page to using the Translate extension. Existing translations can be found at Special:Prefixindex/Template:Main Page/Intro/ and I would appreciate help in copying them. The non-intro parts of this page already use the Translate extension and can be found at Template:Main Page/Requests, Template:Main Page/Community and communication, Template:Main Page/Core issues and collaboration, Template:Main Page/Wikimedia Foundation and Template:Main Page/Sisterprojects. The only thing which still needs to be migrated is Template:Main Page/WM News.

Note that currently the Main Page's translations are at the translated title, e.g. Hauptseite instead of Main Page/de. These should be deleted or redirected when migrated. The Template:Main_Page/Intro subpages can be deleted as well when done. Template:Other languages/Template:Main Page can be deleted when the pages listed there are gone. --MF-W 14:51, 27 September 2018 (UTC)

Rehauling Meta's Main Page on mobile view

Currently, while 90~99% content is visible on desktop, the Page is skimmed on mobile view. Also, the Announcements aren't seen on mobile view. I suggested overhauling Meta's Main Page, especially on mobile view. Feedback is welcome here. George Ho (talk) 22:58, 15 March 2019 (UTC)

If someone wants to do the tedious work, I would not mind it. However, not being a wiki read primarily by external readers, I very much doubt there are many people trying to read the metawiki main page, and even less who are trying to read it in-depth while browsing the internet on mobile. In doubt, the desktop view switch is just one click away. For this reason, I believe such an overhaul would be much work for extremely little (or even no?) value. --Vogone (talk) 11:55, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
Who are "external readers" whom you were referring to, Vogone? According to statistics, over 20,000 or 25,000 users visited the Main Page every day, including 4,000 users on mobile. George Ho (talk) 12:42, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
I have a related query (on Incubator's Main Page) in at the MediaWiki wiki. StevenJ81 (talk) 13:58, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
Readers are usually people who read content we provide on our content pages. This wiki, however, is primarily used by editors and contains things mostly relevant to editors/contributors, rather than readers. That a main page on meta has many views can easily be explained by the fact that all people who visit meta by typing meta.wikimedia.org or using the interwiki prefix m: get redirected to it. It says nothing about the number of people who are actually interested in reading the content of the main page on mobile AND have a problem with hitting the desktop toggle. My guess is this number is close to 0 or 0. --Vogone (talk) 14:22, 17 April 2019 (UTC)
I don't think it needs to be changed. MetaWiki isn't a content wiki, and most people who use this wiki are editors on other wikis. The main page serves to inform newer people coming here what this project is for, and it does that well enough. Vermont (talk) 00:07, 26 April 2019 (UTC)
Then, besides desktop view, how else can the majority of the content be visible on mobile? George Ho (talk) 03:48, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Remove 2009 Strategy link

I think that the link to the closed Strategy wiki should be removed. The sentence can remain mostly the same ("...such as Wikimedia Outreach are...") without difficulty. --Yair rand (talk) 19:30, 10 September 2019 (UTC)

Announce second iteration strategy drafts

It looks like the new drafts are not announced? They should be added to Meta main page, wikimedia-l, etc. --MarioGom (talk) 22:07, 24 September 2019 (UTC)
