I just made an edit to add some ORCIDs for my collaborators and messaged one who doesn't seem to have an ORCID yet. I'll bring this up at our next documentation sprint too so that we can get these things recorded in the table. @Halfak (WMF): Thank you. I think they should be used on individual research pages (for example Research:Peer Production and the Urban-Rural Divide); the individuals' user pages, on each project where they edit (if any), per en:Wikipedia:ORCID; and, of course, on each paper they publish. Perhaps we should have a Wikidata item about each researcher, and each paper, also? In which case, P496 is the one to use on the former, for ORCID iDs. I just added an orcid parameter to {{Template:Investigator}}. Special:Diff/16430894 I'm not sure how we'll get the historic studies linked, but we can use this from now on to make sure that investigators have an orcid listed when they appear as authors of an on-wiki study document. --Halfak (WMF) (talk) 18:07, 14 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Unified login with orcid[edit]

Just a note that the sister project proposal for a new journal hosting platform is nearing completion (see technical features wishlist). If there is still interest in enabling people to generate a unified Wikimedia login based on their ORCID ID I'd be interested to chat. When on-boarding new users, it could also ask if they have an ORCID and auto-generate an initial userpage with basic data from their ORCID page. I reviewed the current draft of your proposal. (I won't be changing it directly as I'm not fully informed on this front.) I like options 1 and 4 in your proposal the best. (authority control template or allowing users to more easily associate their Wikimedia identity with ORCID if they choose to.). My initial reaction to option 5 is that someone should do a basic privacy check to see if it's feasible at all given the privacy commitments we have. One question: have you considered having an option where a Wikidata item is populated for the person and ORCID is added as an identifier? (Of course, this may need Wikidata community buy-in.) I'm asking this because to me the best place to capture the ORCID ID is in Wikidata. Updating ORCID with Wikipedia entries you authored[edit]

Hi, I am looking for ways to integrate Wikipedia edits/new articles I authored into my ORCID profile, other than manual introduction one at a time. I see in the proposal ways to use ORCID on Wikipedia, but nothing on the reverse. Any suggestions would be great. I am also worried to place too many entries in there, as some may be irrelevant edits or small articles. So perhaps include a link to the list of contributions and created articles would work with a selection of a handful of more significant articles such as FAs would be nice.
