Talk:Wikimedia Conference 2018/Participants' List

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

How disappointing to see so many affiliates and user groups without registered participants, especially when there are so many community members who could benefit from attending and contribute to the conference. I'm referring to many of the US user groups in particular (currently, there are no participants from the Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Kentucky, N. Carolina, New England, or Ohio groups). I've tried to reach out to various group to remind them of the upcoming deadline, but maybe this is actually helpful because we know which groups don't really have the capacity to send representatives?

@Rosiestep: Pinging you as a member of AffCom, just in case you're aware of someone associated with any of these groups who may be interested in signing up to attend at the last minute. I'd offer to represent one of these groups, especially because the conference is such a great and productive experience, but they really are outside my jurisdiction. -Another Believer (talk) 00:49, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Bluerasberry: I know you've also been working to remind groups about the upcoming deadline. Pinging you here as well, in case you know someone affiliated with any of the US user groups who might want to register late in the game. -Another Believer (talk) 00:49, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Another Believer: Thanks for bringing this up and pinging some of these groups already. If we can figure out the status of the groups, that'd be great. Of the groups you mentioned, it unfortunately looks like Colorado, N. Carolina, New England, and Ohio are the only ones up to date on reporting and eligible. Representing Ohio, we've been busy finalizing our delegates and just finished that today. List has been updated w/ our delegates. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 02:37, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
My comment above was solely based on the number of blank cells on this page; I didn't think to review the eligibility page, so thanks for clarifying. Glad to see some additional names added to the list already. -Another Believer (talk) 04:02, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I'm pretty sure the WMDE event team is capable of filling in the blank cells by themselves, as stated on the page ;-) Braveheart (talk) 13:04, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Somehow totally missed the red highlighted text, my bad! ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 17:38, 14 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks everyone! Most of the participants registered sharply before the deadline (Jan 15), so, basically, every (eligible) affiliate will be present. Best regards, --Cornelius Kibelka (WMDE) (talk) 10:51, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Cornelius Kibelka (WMDE), as there are still holes in the list, I wonder if there any more updates? --Rosiestep (talk) 15:43, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please, don't worry, we're adding the over +150 participants, that have registered over the weekend, step by step to the page. Thank you, --Cornelius Kibelka (WMDE) (talk) 15:58, 16 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Important group is not listed (yet)[edit]

It is sad to notice that none of the representatives of the Wikimedia Cuteness Association have been added to the list. I can imagine that it is at this early time not clear which of the representatives will be there, but they serve an important role in the movement and deserve to be recognised as participants of the Wikimedia Conference. I am willing to assist in this by registering the WCA representatives. Romaine (talk) 02:12, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The WCA would have to get on the Eligibility Criteria List first by applying for official User Group status. But you know that. --Gereon K. (talk) 06:05, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
There are multiple groups listed that are not officially recognised groups, so that is not a requirement for the list. Romaine (talk) 17:30, 17 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
