Suggestion to format times for translations[edit]

Hi I suggest to make these changes to this template to better format times for different languages. Currently for example Finnish language says: "...are open from 27 joulukuun 2019, 11:40 (UTC)", when the correct format should be "27. joulukuuta 2019, klo 11.40 (UTC)". If we make those changes everyone can make the time format appropriate for their language. Currently time formats are wrong for most languages. This format is used in tech news, for example Tech/News/2019/51 (see a related post on a mailing list from 2017: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/translators-l/2017-January/003773.html). I remember something was not working when I tried to make those changes (see link). I can't exactly remember what was broken. If someone has time/interest to try they can try on their user page / sandbox. I ended up using an example from Polish translation and now Finnish translation unit looks like this. Header[edit]

Perryprog, I see that you were attempting to fix some rendering problem, but I do not observe it, for me the header "Election Committee" works just fine. Could you point out where and in which language you experience it? --Base (talk)`

Hi Base—for whatever reason (I really want to blame cacheing, but I may have just been having a brain fart) my last revert to ZabeMath's edit fixed the issue I was having. The header for § Electoral Committee was on the same line as the last line of the table above it. I had confirmed this with Special:ExpandTemplates for each of my edits, but only the final revert actually worked as expected. I didn't want to make a whole other null edit stating it was fixed, as I had already junked up its edit history a bit. Sorry for any confusion! Perryprog (talk) 01:46, 6 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Internationalization error[edit]

Template not internationalized properly[edit]

The all-candidates table currently uses {{int:Confirmable-yes}} and {{int:Confirmable-no}}. This does not work. In some languages (e.g., yue, or I would suspect all languages under the zh umbrella, including zh itself), a Yes/No for a vote is a completely different word than an ordinary Yes/No. Using the same word makes the table incomprehensible; in fact the current translation is quite misleading because int:Confirmable-No is translated as a phrase (actually a sentence, because there’s a period) that can mean “I’m not sure.”

It is also very difficult to track down translation errors in that table. We are asked to localize this template, but a lot on this template cannot be localized through the translation interface.Al12si (talk) 04:45, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
