From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

RfC[edit]

Hi AshLin, the RfC was intended to bring attention to the user conduct of the involved parties. It gave a chance for the involved parties to be heard, there is no consensus at this point but all the grievances are their for any future record. It would remain open for now, it might be closed if a consensus is reached or if there is no activity there, but it would be used for any future reference or dispute related to them. SRP was really not the right venue for those discussions. Theo10011 07:35, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

No the issue has been brought to the attention of the community here. If you would like to request an action against them locally on Meta, please feel free to use WM:RFH so far there conduct has been problematic on another wiki, not locally on Meta. Since its the first instance, we should ideally wait to see if the issue persists. Theo10011 07:43, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Category:India loves Wikipedia- 2011 counter[edit]

AshLin, The system variable {{PAGESINCATEGORY}} won't be able to count category element numbers from another wiki. It only works in individual wiki as it is working on Commons category. It's true for all magic words. Regards, — Tanvir | Talk ] 09:33, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What future IdeaLab campaigns would you like to see?[edit]

Hi there,

I’m Jethro, and I’m seeking your help in deciding topics for new IdeaLab campaigns that could be run starting next year. These campaigns aim to bring in proposals and solutions from communities that address a need or problem in Wikimedia projects. I'm interested in hearing your preferences and ideas for campaign topics!

Here’s how to participate:

Take care,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 03:33, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Wishlist Survey votes[edit]

Hi, thanks for participating in the Wishlist Survey! Unfortunately, you were voting just as I was posting that the voting was closed. You cast six votes, and the last two happened to come after my "voting is closed" message, so I turned them into Comments instead of Supports. Sorry -- I know it's super nitpicky, especially since your first Commons vote got in under the wire, and your second Commons vote didn't. I hope that's okay? -- DannyH (WMF) (talk) 20:47, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@DannyH (WMF):What can't be cured, must be endured! :D No issue! Thanks for letting me know! AshLin (talk) 15:40, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Future IdeaLab Campaigns results[edit]

Last December, I invited you to help determine future ideaLab campaigns by submitting and voting on different possible topics. I'm happy to announce the results of your participation, and encourage you to review them and our next steps for implementing those campaigns this year. Thank you to everyone who volunteered time to participate and submit ideas.

With great thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF), Community Resources, Wikimedia Foundation. 23:55, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 Community Wishlist Survey[edit]

Hi,

You’re getting this message because you participated in the 2015 Community Wishlist Survey and we want to make sure you don't miss it this year – or at least can make the conscious choice to ignore if it you want to. The 2015 survey decided what the Community Tech team should work on during 2016. It was also the focus of Wikimedia hackathons and work by other developers. You can see the status of wishes from the 2015 wishlist at 2015 Community Wishlist Survey/Results.

The 2016 Community Wishlist Survey is now open for wishes. You can create proposals until November 20. You will be able to vote on which wishes you think are best or most important between November 28 and December 12. /Johan (WMF) (talk) via MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:17, 14 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

JSTOR account redistribution (The Wikipedia Library)[edit]

Hi - according to our records you received a free account for JSTOR through The Wikipedia Library. Because we’ve used up all of our allocated accounts, and it’s been some time since they were distributed, we want to redistribute any accounts that aren’t being used to users on our waitlist.

If you’re still using, or plan to use, your JSTOR access, no problem! Simply head over to the Library Card platform, log in, and request a renewal of your account. You should be able to do this from your user page, or the JSTOR signup page. If you can’t find the renewal button, or have any other issues or questions about this, please feel free to leave a message on my talk page. We’ll begin redistributing inactive accounts in September; if you request renewal after then we will only be able to reactivate your account if we have spots remaining. Thanks, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 13:32, 20 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
On behalf of Wikipedia and Education UG, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Proof of Identity needed for Board of Trustee Candidacy[edit]

Hi there! Candidates for this position must submit proof of identity and evidence of age of majority as a condition of candidacy. A copy of one of the following documents fulfills this:

Driver's license
Passport
Other official documentation indicating real name and age

This may be provided to the Wikimedia Foundation via email at secure-info(_AT_)wikimedia.org. Even if you may have done this previously for a different position, you are asked to complete this again. Please submit this by 29 June 2021 at 23:59 UTC.

If you are one of the selected candidates, the Wikimedia Foundation may need to request additional identifying information in order to run a background check prior to your appointment to the Board.

Candidacy in the 2021 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees election[edit]

Hi there! I am reaching out about your decision to be a candidate in the 2021 Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees election. The Board of Trustees decided there would be outreach available for the 2021 Board of Trustees election. There is a team of facilitators supporting this election through outreach activities.

The facilitators have some activities planned during the campaign period. Be sure to check out Candidate Resources to learn more about the trustee role.

The first thing facilitators plan to do during the campaign period is host a Conversation Chat for candidates. We will talk about the campaign timeline, activities, and answer questions you have. This is currently scheduled for July 3 at 15:00 UTC. This time might change.

Facilitators are reaching out to all candidates with this message. We can offer support to make sure your message is clear. This could be reviewing your candidate page for clarity. We can also clarify community questions that candidates answer during the campaign. Please let us know if you would like this support and we can schedule a time to chat. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 18:20, 29 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for this welcome, Jackie. Thank you for the variety of support provided by the facilitator team. :) I will definitely partake of these and also get back to you with any queries that I may have. Stay safe, AshLin (talk) 11:48, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there! I want to let you know the Candidate Briefing Conversation Chat will be July 3 at 15:00 UTC via Google Meet. If this time does not work for you, it is not a problem. We can plan another time or way to get the information to you. Please just let me know what works for you. Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 19:51, 1 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for informing me, I should be able to make it. If I am unable to, will let you know. Stay safe. AshLin (talk) 02:42, 3 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Candidate update: community question translation and campaign activities[edit]

Dear Candidate,

I am writing to you about several things:

1. On 20 July the facilitation team will begin translating the candidate answers to questions selected by the Elections Committee. Please try to finish your answers by that date if possible.

2. There is a list of Campaign Activities planned by the facilitation team. We have heard feedback about Campaign Activities. Thank you for your patience as we are trying new things and learning. The facilitation team will discuss solutions to these frustrations on 21 July. Look for updates on the Campaign Activities list.

3. The Community Affairs Committee meeting with candidates is on 21 July. You may email questions to askcac(_AT_)wikimedia.org if that works better for you than writing on Meta. If you have not already received a calendar invitation, please email me at jkoerner-ctr(_AT_)wikimedia.org so a calendar invitation for the CAC meeting can be sent to you.

Best, JKoerner (WMF) (talk) 21:42, 16 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Elephants in the room[edit]

I liked your answer as to elephants in the room, especially this part: “Unwillingness to look honestly at every point of view, and rapid dismissal of dissenting points of view by banning participants based on supposed Code of Conduct violations, to avoid engage them.” Wikipedia has a wonderful policy against censorship, but censorship can be indirectly accomplished by getting rid of certain editors instead of getting rid of certain content. Anyway, good luck in the election.Anythingyouwant (talk) 14:44, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your good wishes. Hopefully we can have constructive discussions, after the election, irrespective of the outcome. :) AshLin (talk) 14:46, 20 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
