On wikis with an Arbitration Committee (ArbCom) whose members have been elected with the support of at least 25-30 members of the local community, CheckUsers can be appointed by the Arbitrators only.
Happy editing, Paradoctor 00:42, 16 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fundraising Committee[edit]

Hi there! Thanks for volunteering to sit on the Fundraising committee. The work of the committee will be really valuable to making this year's annual giving campaign really effective. I've posted an overview to Fundraising 2010, and would love your thoughts on the talk page. I'm also going to try to set up an IRC meeting soon, and hope you'll join for that. Keep an eye Fundraising 2010/Committee for a couple of proposed times! Thanks again... Philippe (WMF) 18:24, 3 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Meeting[edit]

Hi all,

I'd like to have a meeting on IRC this week to discuss the 2010-2011 annual appeal/fundraiser. This will be an "anyone is welcome" type meeting, open to the broad community. During this, Zack Exley and I will take you through our inital thoughts about the fundraiser and its organization, and ask you to join us in a discussion about the (massive) role of volunteers and chapters in this year's fundraiser.

Because of the vagaries of time zones, scheduling live meetings is hard. So, we'll have a couple of potential times, and we'll log and post the meeting for anyone who wasn't able to make it.

The meetings will be held Thursday, 12 August at 23:00 UTC (16:00 PDT) and Friday, 13 August at 16:30 UTC (09:30 PDT) in the #wikimedia-fundraising channel on the freenode network on IRC (irc://irc.freenode.net/wikimedia-fundraising). You can access this using freenode's webclient, which is available at http://webchat.freenode.net/ or by using your favorite IRC client.

Hope to see you there! Philippe (WMF) 20:35, 10 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Stat question from IRC[edit]

Hey Jan, I didn't see your question on IRC until you had already left so wanted to make sure you received an answer to that. Philippe answered a similar question on the Banner testing page recently. Because those specific numbers were so low for that test they weren't really statistically valid and so we left them off the main charts (they were still available on the automatic stat charts like the Contribution Tracking Statistics page. I did add them into the charts for this week (though those charts 'still' need some cleaning up). Jalexander 20:40, 12 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia movement[edit]

:) --Aschmidt (talk) 18:46, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for participating in IEG discussions![edit]

Jan, I just came by to say how happy I am this morning to find all your comments on the new IEG proposals. Thank you!! I really do think that early feedback and questions help people shape their ideas into something great, and so I hope you'll continue to participate like this. You are awesome! New Wikisource relationship with Commons, Wikidata and Wikipedia[edit]

Hi Jan! Thanks for your constructive comments on Grants:IEG/New Wikisource relationship with Commons, Wikidata and Wikipedia, based on you suggestion I've updated the proposal with more detailed explanations. There will be a participant more too. What do you think of it?--Micru (talk) 01:24, 4 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Erklärung erbeten[edit]

Hallo, Jan, kannst Du mir vielleicht dies kurz erklären?!

Beste Grüße, -- Sozi (talk) 08:30, 25 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Gern, Gruß --Jan eissfeldt (talk) 20:03, 31 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Gruß -- Sozi (talk) 18:38, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Your opinion of Meta[edit]

Hi Jan. I recently read this old op-ed of yours -[1]. I missed it when it was first published. You talk about a lot of things, the progression of Meta, the changes WMF is making and what not. I'd like to ask if you still hold the same views, I want to understand the core of your opposition. Meta has grown much larger than what is started with, its mandate has kept increasing, and I do see it successful in a lot of areas than what it was envisioned for, but I, along with other admins are getting tired of constant characterization of Meta as a mess. Meta has steward activities, which it does well, it does cross-wiki vandalism monitoring (swmt), which it still does well, it hosts the board election, the steward election, and now the FDC elections, it holds chapter documents going back years, it is the venue for Wikimania bids and selection, fundraising discussions, it is *the* place for translations across all projects. It is the home for FDC pages now, though there are complaints about the way the direction grants are taking here, they mostly stem from procedural issues, rather than the venue - I don't recall a single incident where someone on meta got in the way or obstructed FDC discussions. A recent thread on Wikimedia-l took a lot of issues with FDC, and constant issues regarding WMF come up all the time, and I've never seen a sine time where they complained about the venue. Your choice for focusing on Meta seems out of the blue. I wonder as a primarily de.wp user, would you prefer meta content be ported to en.wp? I'm sure there are other admins from other language wikis who would have different opinions. Theo10011 (talk) 07:17, 29 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Moin Theo, sure I continue to hold the view that we do a less than perfect job as a wiki in hosting these new activities. However, you may note that I also distinguish ("two largely distinct systems") between these new tasks, like grantmaking schemes, on the one hand and both Meta as a concept ("indispensable nonetheless") and the work we are traditionally very good at, like steward & SWMT work, on the other.
Thus, what I reflect upon in the piece is why folks like you and I can - basically - navigate the system "blind" and with ease ("rational optimizations") while a wide range of people from volunteers and chapter leaders, not "at home" on Meta, increasingly often tell me they find it impossible ("hit the wall") to find anything, let alone participate in the constructive way(s) they would like to share their thoughts with us, regards --Jan eissfeldt (talk) 05:33, 6 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hiya Jan, Thanks for the reply. The reason I brought it up was because I recently encountered a user here User_talk:Timeshifter#Meta-Wiki, who was solely using your op-ed to carry some strong views of meta. His interpretation of your concerns seem taken to the extreme now. I understand your point better now, and see the difference - Thanks. Kind regards. Theo10011 (talk) 21:27, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Of course, he is, like everyone else, entitled to re-use the part of my argument that fits in well with his own position - as long as he doesn't claim that I would sign up to the part of his argument I indeed don't agree with. He doesn't go that far, so he is welcome to carry on considering the case :), best regards --Jan eissfeldt (talk) 20:46, 13 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Übersetzungen der Strategieberatung[edit]

Moin Jan!
