Granting bot flags on Laos Wikipedia[edit]

Could you please grant the bot flags on Laos Wikipedia please. There are so many requests and we have no bureaucrats. It would be grateful for me. Regards, 125.24.156.211 11:30, 2 March 2008 (UTC) (lo:User:ກາຍ)[reply]

User language box translation[edit]

Hello Jon Harald Søby. Thank you very much for translating {{user language}}. The template has recently been changed to add two new levels, 0 and 4 (see detailed descriptions). Please update Template:User language/eur:

  • 0: this user cannot read or write eur.
  • 4: this user can contribute at a near-native level in eur. —{admin} Pathoschild 22:50:38, 24 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. :) —{admin} Pathoschild 00:14:03, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
No problem. Jon Harald Søby 00:37, 25 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Namnbyte[edit]

Hej!

--MiCkEdb 10:33, 27 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia Sverige[edit]

Hi, could you please check this out and make me bureaucrat on the project, so I can make admins of the rest of the board. Thanks! /Grillo 22:40, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sigh... Could you also tell me how to link there? :) /Grillo 22:44, 9 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I think this will work: se:chapter:Huvudsida. (For Jhs, db prefix is "sewikimedia".) Cbrown1023 talk 00:15, 10 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, regarding this: Talk:Interwiki_map#Wikimedia_Sverige, if at all possible it is good to wait to see if there are any issues.. adding the same day may not be the best approach. ++Lar: t/c 20:13, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Meh, that's too bureaucratic. If there are any pressing issues with this, it can simply be reverted. Besides, I can not think of a single argument against a prefix to a Wikimedia chapter that could be considered valid. Summa summarum, I'm IAR'ing it. Jon Harald Søby 20:56, 12 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sets a bad example, in my view. There are good reasons not to rush other prefix adds. ++Lar: t/c 15:52, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sure, but there's no reason not to rush this one. It doesn't do any harm. Jon Harald Søby 22:54, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

CU on de.wikipedia[edit]

Hej Jon Harald, just for your information: As we on German Wikipedia request all local CU checks to be publically announced (see also this hint), I've left a short note about your check on this page. Cheers --:Bdk: 22:59, 22 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Avflaggning[edit]

Hej Jon Harald!

MiCkE 20:18, 13 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request for Admin rights at the Xitsonga wiki pedia (ts.wikipedia.org)[edit]

Hi I would like to request for Admin Rights at the Xitsonga Wikipedia (ts.wikipedia.org). I see that there is currently no admin there. I plan to do some major work there, I am also busy doing the Language Translation at Betawiki. Please leave me a message here.Thuvack 15:28, 21 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Enabling global bots of be-x--old: Wikipedia[edit]

I added be-x-old: Wikipeida to Bot policy/Implementation (based on discussion on be-x-old:Вікіпэдыя:Форум#Глябальныя робаты), but be-x-old:Удзельнік:LaaknorBot didn't have bot flag. What else should be done to enable global bots of be-x--old: Wikipedia? --EugeneZelenko 15:33, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A steward usually goes through Bot policy/Implementation and actually add the rights after a while. Laaknor 15:37, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

"Fluent expression" instead of "Native" Requirement[edit]

Community find very problematic to limit language proposal to native language. in foundation list there many example of languages that has no native speakers, but are very useful as culture vehicle. possible proposals in these will fail because of this unfair barrier

what is our proposal?

the consensual proposal of wikimedia community is replace "native" requirement" for "fluent expression". in any kind of language form (oral, written, signal).

Please replace native for fluent expression. ~~u~~

Globalt konto[edit]

Hej! Obelix 13:19, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Verifiability of New languages proposals[edit]

Hi John ... I like to get ur attention about new difficulty now regarding new proposals for varities of Arabic language ... I know that some people will accuse me that I oppose creation of new arabic verions localized on base of political and religous things .. but I think I have to let you aware that most of these varities (i consider them dialects and others consider them laguages) are not written and you cannot find one complete work wriiteen in these spoken dialects of arabic ... I would be happy if the people who propose that here are really active in real life to write complete books with these languages and make a council to standarize the writing systems but using wikimedia by small group of kids is not good advantage for wikimedia foundation reputation ... before the Siberian version of wikipedia has been closed by similar conditions which is that there is no written form of these russian dialects in spite it is also recognized by ISO-639 ... please take these comments into acount when you discuss proposals in languages subcommitte and try to express this fact to other mebers .. regards --Chaos 18:11, 3 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, for the long response time – I missed your post somehow.
There are lots of Wikipedias in languages that don’t have standardised written forms, Egyptian Arabic would not be the first one in that respect. For such Wikipedias, they have to figure out for themselves how they will solve it, but having a written standard is not a precondition for having a Wikipedia, and should (IMO) not be a reason to reject requests for that language. As to how they will figure out the orthography issues, there are a number of ways – for example the Lombard Wikipedia has a system where each article indicates what dialect it is written in, and allows lots of different dialects. There are also other ways to solve it, but it really is up to the community.
Also, Siberian Russian has never had an ISO 639 code – it was, as far as I understand, a mish-mash of Ukrainized Russian with some dialect words mixed in, more or less made up by the main contributor. It also had lots of pages with heavy bias against “Moscow Russia”, so it was clearly being POV-pushed by the creator. Jon Harald Søby 21:11, 7 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

well if Siberian was mis-mash of ukranized Russian .. then Egyptian Arabic is just Arabic with some modification and differnt tone , and some concepts that are used in everyday-life. but anyway as ISO organization has divided Arabic considering them differnet languages but it was refered that they are just spoken .. anyway I dont think you have much to do .. thanks for your Reply --Chaos 20:33, 13 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Finn Rindahl 22:32, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The page has not been translated yet, so it defaults to English. See Translation requests/Benefactors to translate it. Cbrown1023 talk 22:34, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Really, Fundraising 2008/Questions/nb doesn't excist yet either but the line in the heading still reads "Spørsmål" and not "Questions". I would have thought that these headings should stem from Fundraising 2008/core messages/nb where #22 is "velgjørere" (mind not "Bidragsytere" as i suggested above) and #27 is "gjennomsiktighet". Those two does not seem to have been incorporated. Finn Rindahl 23:03, 24 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I thought you meant the text on that page. Yes, we can change the text on the header. Update it on core messages and then I'll go through and make sure it's all updated. Cbrown1023 talk 02:21, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Planet Wikimedia[edit]

Får du oppdatert oversikten i venstremargen under «Bloggere»? Hilsen --Kjetil_r 17:11, 19 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Laaknor 22:59, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

>_< It's because the sitename is "Wikimedia Norge", that part is pulled from "{{SITENAME}}". I'll ask the devs if we can somehow over-ride this for no.wikimedia. Cbrown1023 talk 23:57, 25 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Add "#centralNotice {display:none !important;}" to no:chapter:MediaWiki:Common.css. This will hide the notice for that wiki. Cary said that would be okay. Cbrown1023 talk 00:11, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Stigmj fixed it already. Jon Harald Søby 13:02, 26 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]
