Translation combination boxes
[edit]The following text has been copied from Meta:Babel#Translation_combination_boxes. As an active translators, it may be of any interest to you:
Hi, Sabine worked on new boxes for translators. They aim at giving information about translation combination: say, I can translate from English to French, from Italian to Spanish, and so on. It would help us to know who can translate what, in what, to streamline the translation process. The boxes do not provide information about your level (wether you are a professional translator or not, for example); you may write something about this point in your user page (very useful as well). A few boxes are available, be bold and create those you need :) Be aware we use ISO 639-3 codes for languages (fra and not fr, eng and not en, ...).
Please see "Translator in the following language combinations" and pick up templates for your user page!
This message was pasted on several User talk pages of active translators.
Thank you :)

Election notice translation
[edit]Thank you, Mzlla, for your translation of the Election notice! I expect you informed already the page to your community, Finnish language projects.
I hope your work encourage many Fi editors to be involved. Again, thank you! --Aphaia 09:30, 15 August 2006 (UTC)
- No problem, I am going to continue with other candidate statements when I have more time. Should I inform it my community, since it is in the top of every page. I think it is enough, and some (you can read: the most of) Finnish contributors does not like this burecracy in Wikimedia projects, they only want keep contributing. -- Mzlla 15:14, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
A late candidate
[edit]Hi there Mzlla, there is a late candidate for board elections. As you worked and helped a lot translating, I though it might be a good idea to inform you, because time is short. Thanks in advance. Election candidates 2006/Oscar/En (original) --Dbl2010 06:01, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Translation
[edit]Hi, Mzlla. Thank you for your translation on TR/quick. Regretfully, it wouldn't be used for a while, since there is no Finnish page of Wikimedia:Board of Trustees yet. We need first to set up the page. So I commented it out for now; you can reuse it when you begin to translate the entire page.
I noticed your request for account on the Foundation wiki. You may have noticed remarks at the top of request page, it says:
- Please note, you don't need an account to translate pages. All translation is being done here on meta. See Translation requests for further information.
That means, even if you have its account, you are requested to make translations here on meta, not on the Foundation wiki directly; we think the official site is better to be as stable as possible. Without slight tweaking, we translators are usually working on Translation request pages on meta, just as you are doing on visual guideline.
You can therefore start your updating, waiting for the answer for your request. Please give a look to TR/WMF. You will find a list of subpages sorted by themes. If you have no subpage for Finnish on a certain theme, please just create it.
Back for your request, I think it would be nice someone who is very involved into the Foudation activity or someone whom one of us are familiar speak for you. Would you ask someone like CimonAvaro or Jni (I know him very well and trust him) to be your advocate?
Cheers,--Aphaia 06:55, 10 October 2006 (UTC)
- I think that nor Cimon Avaro neither Jni knows me, because they are working most here - not in Finnish wikiprojects like Wikipedia or Wikibooks, where I am most active. But if I am bureaucrat in Finnish Wikisource and sysop Finnish Wikibooks, doesn't that plead for me? -- Mzlla 19:18, 12 October 2006 (UTC)
- For me enough, since I know you are currently the most involved translator and no one has complained about your works. I'll support your request. By the way how about Finnish page update? See Wikimedia:Wikimedia:Site map.
- I am not sure if we need to renew the Finnish home page (Etusivu except the news page ... it is too outdated (April 2005) so I am planning now to replace it with English one for a while. Do you think you or other Finnish editors can constantly provide news translation? If so, please set up Translation requests/WMF/News-fi (See also TR).
- One another Finnish page we need to concern would be Wikimedia:Tietoja Wikimediasta. Visit TR/WMF#About, I create a red link as your current workplace ... source is available at Translation requests/WMF/About Wikimedia/En:
- Sorry for inconvinience, we will be able to improve some clumsy parts later. When you finish the works and still are not granted the account there, please note "upload" besides the link on TR/WMF.
- If you have questions, please feel free to ask on my talk or translators-l. Thanks!
- P.S. Have you given a look to translation coordinators per language? --Aphaia 08:44, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for noticing me about editcount. Btw, another issue. Have you noticed Wikimedia:About Wikimedia modified slightly? You may have known already the Board organization was greatly altered. We must follow it ... Could you care for further synching of your version? Fortunately or not, it hasn't been online yet so we have a time to make the last check .... --Aphaia 08:24, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
- Synched it. Finnish version in Meta is now up-to-date. -- Mzlla 19:34, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Administration
[edit]Hello, Mzlla, I'm user Anton Kazmyarchuk from be.wikipedia. Sysop from be.wikipedia called EugeneZelenko doesn't want to block the user, that 5 times violated Wikipedia (3 times yesterday) rules, and has 2 notices from sysop. Where do I have to get to and ask someone to tell him to block vandal? Thank you -- 82.209.209.144 16:50, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Hello, and thank you for asking. If sysop EugeneZelenko is still active in that wiki, the best choice would be trying still to talk him or one of other sysops. In case they are not active (do not respond to your queries), you can try to request temporary sysop permissions in Requests for permissions. If the case is emergency (I think it's not, I may be wrong), you can ask urgent help from stewards - for example on IRC in #wikimedia-stewards or on the talk page of any steward, choice one from the list of stewards. -- mzlla 16:58, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for answer. Sysop EugeneZelenko is active and doesn't want to block the user. He even told me that by requesting the block I violate some wikipedia rules. He didn't name this rules then. This is a link to discussion, where he tells he won't block: [1] The second sysop in be.wikipedia is inactive for 3 days (User:Red_Winged_Duck). And i don't have IRC client. I will try to connect to stewards per Wikipedia interface, but what to do if i fail to get help? -- 82.209.209.144 17:24, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
- Requesting ban without any reason is personal attack which violates rules. But while you aren't doing it, I can't understand what is the rule you are broking. I can't say anything else to this case - I did not find any online translator and I'm not able to understand Belgian. Anyway, steward Jon Harald Søby is now processing your request, and he is able to do something in this case. I don't believe you fail to get help - if so, ask again. -- mzlla 18:44, 7 November 2006 (UTC)
Sorry mzlla

awardspace
[edit]hi! can you please whitelist corpuschristi dot awardspace dot com? It's the address of our school website here in Cagayan de Oro City, Philippines and i tried to put on a link on the Cagayan de Oro wiki page but it's included in the blacklist. I don't know how to request for a whitelist for our URL. Please help. Thank you very much. - Bjorn Paje
- Yeah, thanks for asking. Anyway, this is not right place to ask - I am not able to do it in wikis where I am not sysop. You should ask this some of your own wiki's sysops. -- mzlla 07:55, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
artnet on the Spam blacklist
[edit]Hi Mzlla! I updated the information, could you please check if that's ok? Or if you need more? Thanks for your time!
Take care! --Hedwig in Washington 16:51, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- I understand that there are hundreds of links to artnet.de in German Wikipedia. Anyway, I am not persuaded yet that these links should be removed. Why don't you want links to artnet.de, for me it looks useful site? If that site is spammed, then it can of course listed at Spam Blacklist. But you should remember, that after listing you have to remove those links manually before the specified article can be edited. --mzlla 21:04, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
- When you follow the link I provided on the blacklist disc, you'll find that there is the login-link on top. Further, you find dates of exhibition of that artist and some locations, where his work is collected. No further linking to those site. That's all information that can be found on artnet. So it doesn't meet the criteria we set up on the german wikipedia. I understand your concern, that I maybe don't like the website or whatever. That's not true, btw. I'm a member of the clean up group, that's all. 8)) I already removed some hundred weblinks from the german wikipedia, kunstmarkt.com and many others. Blocking links like artnet helps keeping the articles more informative, accurat and within our guidlines. However, if you decide that you can't put artnet on the blacklist, I'll accept that. The cleanup already started, artnet is, not only on my(!), list, to be removed cause it doesn't meet the criteria for usefull links. Please let me know what you think. regards, --Hedwig in Washington 11:32, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- Done, artnet.de is now blocked. -- mzlla 14:48, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you very much, I really appreciate that. Take care, --Hedwig in Washington 00:05, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
Sorry
[edit]Sorry about that. It was in the NowCommons category and it was in fact on Commons. Is there not any way to make www.wikipedia.org use the Commons version? Andre (talk) 18:53, 19 November 2006 (UTC)
- OK, no problem. Now it is locked so noone can add it to NowCommons category. -- mzlla 18:58, 19 November 2006 (UTC)

Block of Russian warez site
[edit]Thanks, mzlla! Is there any way to scan across all of MediWiki to make sure it doesn't exist elsewhere (since it's a Russian site and the user has been unrelenting in adding it to the English WIkipedia I suspect it is probably elsewhere). Or are blocked sites auto-removed? Also, is there any way to prevent a user from adding the URL as plain text (without the "http://")? That seems to be the anons new strategy. -- Stbalbach 23:56, 5 December 2006 (UTC)
- No, there is not way to scan all wikis at once, but you can scan single wiki by Special:Linksearch. Blocked sites are not auto-removed and it is possible to add it as plain text - we have not any solution against that at this time. -- mzlla 12:33, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
I need help.
[edit]I can't edit an article because it has a blacklisted hyperlink. Can you help me out here? What can I do to remove this block from the article? --170.148.10.43 16:47, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
artnet.de on the blacklist
[edit]You take artnet.de on the blacklist. Spam? in Germany is no consensus about this. The content of some artnet links, Mr. Hedwig in Washingten kills in Germanen Wikipedia, is no spam. Nobody understand in German Wikipedia why Artnet is on blacklist, because we speak in German language not in English. Mr. Hedwig in Washington has only a theory, he is the only one. Please strike artnet from the list and make a discsusion in German Wikipedia in German language if you need a consensus or if you think somebody likes to know why artnet is on blacklist. Thank you. -- 217.245.53.84 07:00, 13 December 2006 (UTC)
- Hello Mzlla. The removal of this domain from the blacklist is being discussed at "artnet.de/artist" on the spam blacklist discussion page. I am inclined to remove it per the reasons I've explained there. Could you comment? It's possible I've missed something that makes removing it a bad idea. Thanks. —{admin} Pathoschild 04:03:47, 30 March 2007 (UTC)

Fundraising translation feedback
[edit]Hey Mzlla,
I wanted to ask for your help. As you may be aware we have been running banners on many language wikis. We have a lot of new content this year and I really want to conduct a thorough review of our translations. This is a combination of feedback from the community, readers, donors as well as those with professional translator experience. This will help us ensure the highest quality of translations used in our messaging.
To help us out with this I wonder if you would be willing to give us feedback for Finnish using This Link
Simply follow the simple instructions on that page and if you have any questions feel free to contact me on my talk page.
Many Thanks

English/Finnish translations
[edit]Dear Mzlla, I am contacting you to introduce myself. My name is Jessica Robell and I have recently joined the Wikimedia Foundation as a part of the fundraising team. My work will be focused to a large extent around translations. I am very interested in finding engaged Wikipedians, such as yourself, who would be interested in contributing with their time to translate shorter text from English to Finnish. I am Swedish myself but unable to write in Finnish. We have for example recently put up a 'Thank you letter' from the Wikimedia Foundation's ED Sue Gardner for translation, using the translation extension. You can find the letter here:https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Fundraising%2FTranslation%2FThank+you+email+20131202&language=fi&filter=translated&action=translate I would be most grateful to get your help to translate/proofread this letter in order to develop a quality translation in Finnish.
Furthermore, in addition to using the translation extension, my aim is to develop a few personal contacts to whom I can reach out with potential questions regarding a particular word choice etc. As an engaged Wikipedia translator, I would be very interested in hearing your view on this.
Thank you very much for your support. I look forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards, Jessica Robell Global Fundraising Coordinator Jrobell (talk) 16:51, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed
[edit]Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Mzlla. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Mzlla~metawiki that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
Community Liaison, Wikimedia Foundation
