Information about the recent security incident
[edit]Hello, we are sending this message to inform you that your account was one of 97 registered Wikimedia accounts affected by malicious code as part of a recent security incident. This occurred only because you visited Meta-Wiki at a specific time.
This incident was caused by a malicious user script "worm" that was unintentionally activated during a security review by the Wikimedia Foundation staff. The worm modified MediaWiki:Common.js, causing Meta-Wiki visitors to edit or delete various pages during the approximately 23 minutes that this worm was operational.
We have analyzed the malicious user script and reviewed our internal and public logs. We have found no evidence that your account credentials were compromised, or that your account was used to conduct any other actions on Wikimedia projects besides editing or deleting random pages. We have no reason to believe that Wikipedia was under attack, or that any information about your account was breached as part of this incident.
All edits caused by the script have been reverted, and the deleted pages have been restored.
We apologize for any disruption this incident caused you, and are working to prevent this kind of incident from happening again. You can learn more about that security work, and further details about this incident, on our project page.
Regards, on behalf of the Wikimedia Foundation Product Safety and Integrity team, SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talk) 17:18, 26 March 2026 (UTC)
Banner Central Notice 2026 "Projeto Mais+"
[edit]Hi,@Soylacarli
I’m reaching out here to inform you that banners have been submitted for two events within the project “Mais Teoria da História na Wiki”: the WikiContest "Mais Revolução Haitiana na Wiki" and the Workshop Series "Conhecimento Livre e Perspectivas Antirracistas".
I am contacting you through this channel because I have not been able to get in touch with an administrator via the CentralNotice pages. I apologize if this message is out of place.
If you could please take a look at this matter for us, I would greatly appreciate it. For your information, the banner requests have also been posted on the Village Pump and on the Wikimedia Brasil discussion page.
Thank you very much for your attention and support, Vsdetoni (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 19:07, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Vsdetoni (Projeto Mais+)! Thanks for flagging this. In addition to creating the request page, the request also needs to be added to the main CentralNotice request page/queue. Since that step was missing, the request was not visible from the main page, so none of the CN admins picked it up. I'll take a look at it right now :). Best, Soylacarli (talk) 21:16, 11 May 2026 (UTC)
- Hi @Soylacarli,
- Thank you very much for the clarification and for taking care of this. I’ve now added the requests to the main CentralNotice request page/queue. Please let me know if anything else is needed.
- Best regards, Vsdetoni (Projeto Mais+) (talk) 17:57, 12 May 2026 (UTC)
