Wikimedia Hong Kong[edit]

Hi, My name is Nathan Carter and I am a member of the Wikimedia Foundation's Chapter's Committee. We are presently in the process of verifying the details of proposed chapter's contact people and checking on the status of each proposal, you are listed as the contact for Wikimedia Hong Kong . If you could contact me either on meta or via e-mail (cartmanau-at-gmail.com) and let me know if you are still the contact person for the chapter and provide a quick run down on where you guys are at it would be greatly appreciated. Cheers --Nathan Carter (Talk) 23:20, 31 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Translation requests/Give the gift of knowledge/zh[edit]

Would you be able to help translate this for the current fundraiser? Aphaia tells me that you are very good translator and we need someone to translate that into Chinese. Are you able to help? Thanks, Cbrown1023 talk 19:22, 26 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikimania 2009[edit]

Hello Yuyu, I'm Andrew (OhanaUnited) and I met you this summer at Wikimedia Hong Kong chapter. We definetely need someone to help translate Wikimania news into Chinese (I would do it if my chinese typing speed improves) OhanaUnitedTalk page 08:13, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm just saying if we win the bid, I think we need you to help translate information into Chinese because I'm not good at typing in Chinese. OhanaUnitedTalk page 18:29, 1 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Translation - Copyedit?[edit]

Hello Yuyu! Could you possibly help check Home/zh-hans and Home/zh-hant for errors and translate the "10 wishes for 2008" section? Thanks! Cbrown1023 talk 15:46, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thanks a lot![edit]

I wish I could say something in Chinese but unfortunately I am a real ignoramus in your language even if I am really fond of the ideograms... sorry. Well, I just wanted to thank you for your translation. Take care, I wish you all the best. Have a nice weekend, Claudi/Capsot 20:09, 28 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

One more candidate[edit]

There's one candidate that isn't listed at all on the zh-hans page yet - Mischa Vetere. I would add him in, but I know you're translating right now and don't want to create an edit conflict. Thanks for your help! Ral315 (talk) 20:34, 28 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

Translator, We need you![edit]

Dear Yuyu,

You have helped us in previous years with translations and for that we are most grateful. Now we turn towards the 2011/12 fundraiser. It may seem forever away, but work has already begun getting everything ready to go. This year we want to have landing pages covering as many countries in as many languages as possible.

Right now, we want to figure out who is interested in translating for the fundraiser. This year we're hoping to have more of a solidified "core" group of translators that we can count on to have work done by a few key dates, but we'd also welcome help from people who are willing to just help out when they can.

If you would be interested please take a look at this little sign-up survey and fill it out http://survey.wikimedia.org/index.php?sid=13638&newtest=Y&lang=en. With that we can start building a list of people and filling any gaps in the languages we serve.

Many Thanks

Wikimedia Venezuela[edit]

I am writing to ask you a question regarding the status of our still pending request of Wikimedia Venezuela to become a local Wikimedia Chapter. We have started gathering people and ideas since October 2010, organised a series of lectures for Wikipedia TEN. Our proposed bylaws have been reviewed by members of the ChapCom as early as May 2011. We were informed that in June-July 2011, our proposal was scheduled to be submitted to voting and, as of October 2, 2011, we are yet to receive a notification, either approval, rejection, suggestions...we have received only silence. What is going on? What has delayed the ChapCom to close the voting on our case? Working groups in other countries have submitted their proposals/requests to form a local WikimediaChapter more or less at the same time that we did, and they have been approved already. Why not Wikimedia Venezuela? What is wrong with us? If we were told what is wrong with us, we could work it out and fix whatever is needed...but with no input, we are left sitting in the waiting room for months..

Could you please tell us what is delaying our approval? What do we have to do?

Our people (37) is anxious and wondering what is going on. We were more people, but we feel dissapointed and discouraged, and this doesn't help us at all. Could you please give us an update?

Many, many thanks in advance from Venezuela.

Thanks for attention, wish WM HK Chapter a success bidding.

Short-term grants[edit]

Dear Jerry, you write:

all the opportunities especially the publicity we gain in the outreach in Wikimania, will just fade away ... Who is responsible for that?

As I understand it, you can apply for a grant right now; or as soon as you confirm what was left over from your last grant. I commented here. SJ talk  14:27, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Important announcement: Election delayed by one week[edit]

The Election Committee regrets to advise that it is necessary to delay the start of voting in the WMF Elections 2013 for one week. This delay is being implemented for three reasons:

  • We have been unable to verify that the list of eligible voters is complete and that all voters meet the published criteria
  • We have been unable to verify that the SecurePoll setups for the election are properly functioning
  • The voter interfaces have not been translated and are not currently available in any language other than English, thus disadvantaging Wikimedians who do not read English.

The following changes are now made to the Election timeline:

  • 8-22 June 2013: elections
  • 23-25 June 2013: vote-checking
  • 25-28 June: publication of results.

For the Election Committee, Risker (talk) 20:53, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Candidate questions[edit]

I have a few questions for you:

  1. How you would empower poeple to stability and profesionalism?
  2. Do you think that ways how WMF finances are deployed to the Chapters is good? What do you think about the criticism from Chapters to WMF about their financial support and/or redistribution of money?
  3. What is the differentce between formal and informal communication? Which of these is closer to you,

Thanks, --Juandev (talk) 10:01, 10 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Dear Jerry, I'm glad you took part in the elections this year; thank you for sharing your ideas about how to fix what ails the movement. Much of that is not really the Board's responsibility - I hope you will keep looking for ways to solve those problems through other means. SJ talk  01:49, 25 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Greetings. I see you have experience translating pages here at Meta. If you are willing and able, Wikimedia LGBT, a proposed user group, is currently recruiting people to assist with page translations. Any assistance would be much appreciated. English/Chinese translations[edit]

Dear Yuyu, I am contacting you to introduce myself. My name is Jessica Robell and I have recently joined the Wikimedia Foundation as a part of the fundraising team. My work will be focused to a large extent around translations. I am very interested in finding engaged Wikipedians, such as yourself, who would be interested in contributing with their time to translate shorter text from English to Chinese. I know that you have been an active translator for the fundraising campaign previous years and I would be most grateful to get your support also this year. To begin with, we have for example recently put up a 'Thank you letter' from the Wikimedia Foundation's ED Sue Gardner for translation, using the translation extension. You can find the letter here: https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translate&group=page-Fundraising%2FTranslation%2FThank+you+email+20131202&language=zh&filter=translated&action=translate

Furthermore, in addition to using the translation extension, my aim is to develop a few personal contacts to whom I can reach out with potential questions regarding a particular word choice etc. As an engaged Wikipedia translator, I would be very interested in hearing your view on this.

Thank you very much for your support. I look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards, Jessica Robell Global Fundraising Coordinator Wikimedia Foundation Jrobell (talk) 14:49, 2 January 2014 (UTC)Reply
