Wikimedians of Võro language User Group (vro Wikimedia võro keele pruukjarühm; est Wikimedia võru keele kasutajarühm) is a group of people interested in Wikimedia projects in Võro language and topics related to it.

Group is based in Estonia and cooperates closely with Wikimedia Eesti.

Objective of the User Group is to promote the Võro Wikipedia and the use of South Estonian languages in general. Promote free knowledge and especially the topics related to the Võro language, culture and community.

Võro Wikipedia also welcomes articles in Seto, Tartu and Mulgi languages, which are all part of South Estonian.

History[edit]

Võro Wikipedia was proposed in February 2005 and started on 22 June 2005. In the 2nd half of 2000s there was a lot of activity, the 2010s was a less active period, and from the year 2020 the editing has once more picked up. By February 2023 the project has grown to around 6400 articles and ranks as the 193rd Wikipedia language version by the number of articles.

In 2010 an Estonian chapter was formed. In the early years that included two of the administrators of Võro Wikipedia (that is: both of them). Wikimedia Eesti has been involved with several actions directed at the promotion of Võro Wikipedia.

The Founding of the User Group was proposed in 2023 at the Treaty of Tartu Day. All three of the administrators (Kruusamägi, Eluonilus, Võrok) have agreed to participate in the creation of the group and expect it to advance even further the promotion of Võro Wikipedia.
