This page enables stewards to handle permissions requests, including the giving and taking of administrator, bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight rights, for all Wikimedia wikis which do not have a local permissions procedure. If your wiki has a local bureaucrat, submit your request to that user or to the relevant local request page (see the index of request pages). Requests for bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and CheckUser queries belong elsewhere.

For urgent requests, such as to combat large-scale vandalism on a small wiki, contact a steward in the #wikimedia-stewards IRC channel (see a web-based IRC client). In emergencies only, type !steward in the channel to inform stewards that you need help.

Please only make requests here after gaining the approval of your local community.

When requesting permissions, copy and paste the following text into the correct section. Please fill in all the required fields -- language code, link to the local request, and link to your local user page. Without this information, a steward cannot process your request.

Please summarize your request in the "summary".

The poll started only 3 days ago. Please wait at least a week. guillom 11:57, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I think you don't have to wait, there aren't more users I think... I'm no active user there, but I've voted. Ooswesthoesbes 11:59, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
One week is a regular delay for sysop elections. guillom 12:02, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, i'll wait. MF-Warburg(de) 12:48, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Alemanic Wikibooks

I request sysop acces on the Alemanic Wikibooks. I was sysop for 3 months and I would like be the sysop for a year.

Thank you. June 23 2007

I have made good expirience with work as sysop. I have many pages translated and I wrote some pages

for the practice. It need someone who is sysop, because the only sysop is never here. GreifenseeGreifensee 13:11, 24 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Please gain consensus among the community first, and make a local request. Thank you. Effeietsanders 17:32, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
As the local election page was only started two days ago you will need to allow the community a change to vote before bringing your request here. I would also suggest that placing the link on stewards talk pages may not you help either, thanks --Herby talk thyme 08:51, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gothic Wikipedia

I request administrator access to the Gothic Wikipedia, as I'm the ancient sysop of this wiki (got:User:Sajasazi), but since the automatic changes of password done by Brion Vibber, I lost acces to my account. Jacques Pirate has also asked for adminship on the wiki, but he doesn't know the language well enough, and it'll be easier for me to correct his mistakes if I got adminship, instead of telling him every time what he has to change.

Thank you. Yadönapya 09:18, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ask Brion for assistance (I assume you have no email set up for that account). --Shanel 04:46, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've done it already. He never deigned to answer me. Actually, there's a mail set up for that account, but that mail doesn't exist anymore. And I don't really want to get my ancient account back. -- Yadönapya 11:43, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

If you haven't already, try contacting Brion on IRC. You can use the CGI:IRC gateway provided by Wikizine . He is usually in the channel #wikimedia-tech, using the nick "brion" or "brion-office." I personally would prefer for you to ask him first; I have no way of knowing if you and Sajasazi are the same person. If you really don't want to keep the old account, please hold an election if possible.--Shanel 04:51, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

There is an election on the Baurgs Brunna for both me(for permanant adminship) and Yadoenapya(as well, though how is differently). Unfortunately only three people currently regularily contribute to the wiki. One of these people - Manie - is absent, and the two others are Yadoenapya/Sajasazi and I. We have contacted Manie on his/her talk page about two days ago, but Manie has yet to respond at the time of writing. Manie has not provided us with an email to contact him/her with. --Jocke Pirat 05:26, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You can contact Manie over af.wiktionary, best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 17:53, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. I contacted Manie, and it seems the votes are in for both me and Sajasazi. --Jocke Pirat 00:44, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Komi Wikipedia

I request sysop access.

  • Language Code: kv
  • Local Request Link: n/a
  • Automatic List of local bureaucrats: None
  • Local User Page: kv:User:Vörmort

This Wiki has been totally aborted! It needs a "clean up", because some articles are in russian, and the most there is in komi is too short! Therefore I would be administrator on this wiki to make it beeing reborn.

Bureaucrat access

See bureaucrat for information about the position.

CheckUser access

To request CheckUser information, see Request for CheckUser information. This is the place to request CheckUser access. Note that temporary CheckUser access is not permitted.

Stewards: When someone asks for CheckUser status, please check the current policy regarding bestowal of status before giving the status. Breaching these rules may be cause for removing your steward access. When you give someone CheckUser, please list them on CheckUser, ask them to subscribe to checkuser-l, email checkuser-l-owner@wikipedia.org so that the listadmins know the person is allowed on the mailing list (the list may contain confidential information), and make sure they contact an op for access to #wikimedia-checkuser.

Arabic Wikipedia

Hi, Iam user Tarawneh [3] from ar wiki. I resigned from Bureaucrat, checkuser, and Sysop lists in ar wiki a few months ago, according to policy the other checkuser ar:user:chaos was removed from the checkuser list [4], now ar wiki has new checkusers, and hence no reason , by policy , exists to keep chaos away from his rights. I had a chat with Cary, he agreed and he advised me to post a request here.

  • Language Code: ar
  • previous request, and grant of rights for chaos: [5]
  • Local User Page: ar:User:chaos

Thank you. --Tarawneh 23:52, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please ask him to contact Cary (cbass at wikimedia dot org) to provide some identification first. guillom 19:01, 17 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oversight access

Do not initiate an oversight request here. The Arbitration Committee will make the request once there is consensus on the local wiki (this process is currently for en-Wikipedia only).

Stewards: When you give someone oversight access, list them on Hiding revisions.

There are revisions on different pages on Fa Wikipedia which contain personal information about a user, who have recently request all his personal information to be removed from page histories. I am a sysop there, and have discussed the matter with a local bureaucrat as well. I can hide them if I'm given temporary Oversight access. If this is not allowed, I can provide a steward (e.g. by email) with the exact list of revisions in question. Please advise. Huji 09:13, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of access

If you want to request that your own status be removed, please don't forget to place a note in English on your local user talk page. This is required to prove your identity. And then add the request here.

To request the removal of another user's status, you must gain consensus on the local wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When there is community consensus that the user's access should be removed, a trusted person from that wiki should provide a link here to the discussion, a very brief explanation of the reason for the request, and summarize the results of discussion.

cu at arabic wikipedia

i request the removal of cu access at arwiki. it's a small project that meta can offer any cu info when needed. i think sockpuppets were used in getting the 25 cu votes, those in the know don't want to answer simple questions, private ips (see history of User:Azdiyy/checkuser) contrary to cu policy are there for everyone to see, and some ar cus don't appear to have the common sense necessary to interpret cu results if i assume good faith. when user:Chaos wants to have his cu back but doesnt care about claims here something i think is wrong. user:Alnokta just archived his talkpage while user:Mido ignored them. i also think we have socks as admins and some are trying to cover it up. meta help is needed to make some info available when cu can be carried out here rather than at arwp. considering that one ar sysop claimed the positive cu was due to an evil roommate who registered shortly after his block to carry on his edit wars, and another sockpuppet claimed unspeakable attacks were due to an easy password, and noting that one ar sysop said that creating 10 sockpuppets *OK* and no one objected, i don't think cu is any use for ar wp. see also talk pages of former admins m:user:Aram33 and m:user:Classic 971 who also appears to be behind ar sysop m:user:Menasim. many thanks. --الأزدي 10:04, 20 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary permissions for emergency or technical purposes

If you are requesting administrator status to make a translation of the wiki interface, see also the BetaWiki project, which seeks to make a neutral MediaWiki translation that will then be default for all wikis. That is more useful than only making a local translation. You can ask questions in the IRC channel or in the mailing list. See also MediaWiki localisation.

Stewards: Currently active temporary permissions are listed at /Approved temporary. When granting a request, please copy the request to the appropriate section there, and clearly state the date of removal. Requests only need remain listed below for a few days, and may afterward be removed as long as they have been copied to the subpage.

Maori Wikibooks

I request temporary sysop access to delete spam.

Thank you. MF-Warburg(de) 08:47, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done There is no longer spam to remove. I deleted 3 empty pages. This wiki has only the Main page, I doubt it needs a sysop. --Snowdog 12:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There are still a few more pages already marked with {{delete}}, which only have spam and its removal in their history. But these can also be deleted when the Wiki is closed down, see Proposals_for_closing_projects/Closure_of_Maori_Wikibooks. Ahoerstemeier 12:47, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiquote Afrikaans

I request sysop access.

I'm sorry, I am confused as to how to link back to Wikiquote from here. Thank you. 41.241.168.188 16:02, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Can I translate the MediaWiki interface with sysop status? Or should I go somewhere else? It says "view source", but we do not have any sysops who could have protected the pages? 41.241.168.188 18:51, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for all the info, but I would like to be able to translate Spesiaal:Allmessages in our Wikiquote. 41.241.168.188 19:41, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi you should also request the general import (at bugzilla:) of the Special:Allmessages from af.wiktionary since wikt:af:Gebruiker:Manie did translate them perfectly, You will save a lot of time and can afterwards edit the ones specific to af.books. Best regards --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:00, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
(P.S. the link to the local request does not work, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:00, 8 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]
(P.P.S. System-messages (=MediaWiki-messages) are protected by default (and cannot be unprotected). --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:06, 8 July 2007 (UTC))[reply]
Oh ok, thanks. The problem is, there is no local community... so what do I do in this case? 41.241.168.188 20:13, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just found the link and updated it in Your request (even if there is no local community the local request link is mostly wanted), best regards --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 20:17, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, thanks a lot! Will I be notified of procedings, or do I just regularly check back here? 41.241.168.188 20:27, 8 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I would like to edit my request: can I only get temporary access please? There are just a few pages that need protection, and a couple of links in the navigation bar that need reparation... I don't think there will be any sysop work to be done soon after that. 41.241.160.166 18:59, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why is this taking so long? 41.243.45.16 15:02, 11 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. I'm not sure whether sysopaccess is the best way to translate. If you are interested in translating the interface, please go to BetaWiki, and request translator status there to translate the interface. See this page to learn more about it. If there are specific interface changes that can not be handled this way, please let us know. Effeietsanders 20:08, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, the translations have already been done after I added a request to import the language PHP files from the Afrikaans Wikipedia on bugzilla. Now all that needs to be done is to change the links in the left navigation bar, as well as protecting the main page and some important templates. 41.241.175.92 21:06, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I'm just wondering whether this request is still being considered? 41.243.36.148 19:13, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Dzongka Wiktionary

I request temporary sysop access to clear up the spam and vandalism that has accumulated there.

Thank you. MF-Warburg(de) 13:27, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not done There is no longer spam to remove. I deleted 3 empty pages. This wiki has only the Main page, I doubt it needs a sysop. --Snowdog 13:00, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
And those pages in dz:Category:Candidates for speedy deletion? MF-Warburg(de) 14:33, 12 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary

I request sysop access to delete categories, articles, templates, etc that are unused or mistranslated. Both these Tok Pisin projects are moribund and in need of revitalisation. There is only one temporary sysop on each (K. Kellogg-Smith); I would like to assist in sysop duties and I believe a sysop fluent in Tok Pisin would be useful in each case. Both projects are in need of significant cleanup and removal of vandalism. (Note: I requested permanent sysop access recently and as a result of the feedback I believe temporary sysop access is more appropriate at this stage, while we clean up these projects and encourage the community to develop.)

Thank you. Matt Andrews 05:24, 13 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I have now registered new accounts on Tok Pisin Wikipedia and Wiktionary with username Wantok, (tpi:wikt:User:Wantok, tpi:User:Wantok) which I intend to use in future rather than the "Mattandrews" accounts above (for consistency across projects, and in preparation for the new cross-projects login feature). Should the above request be granted, I would prefer the sysop rights to be given to the Wantok accounts instead, if possible. Matt Andrews 23:26, 17 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Miscellaneous requests

Requests that don't fit in other sections belong here. Note that the following types of requests belong on separate pages: bot status, URL blacklisting and whitelisting, and requests for CheckUser queries. If you want to have changed your Meta username, please go to Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. If you want to have changed a username on a Wikimedia wiki without bureaucrats, please go to Requests for username changes.(Existing requests have been moved to the appropriate page.)
