Azerbaijani Wikimedians User Group (az. "Azərbaycan vikimediaçıları" istifadəçi qrupu) is a group formed by active members of Azerbaijani Wikimedia projects who are interested in organizing and participating in outreach activities on national level. Members of current user group have been active for several years already, doing among others workshops and presentations for university students and young people in the regions of Azerbaijan, also contributing to Commons and Azerbaijani Wikimedia projects.

Name

We use the name Azerbaijani Wikimedians User Group and plan to call our future chapter Wikimedia Azerbaijan. We will use WMAZ as an abbreviation for both names.

Objectives

  • Translate and adopt Wikipedia policies and guidelines which we don't have yet;
  • Create Wikimedia projects which we don't have in Azerbaijani language;
  • Improve in quality and number articles in Azerbaijani language on Wikimedia projects;
  • Increase content about Azerbaijan in Commons;
  • Good planning and executing Wiki Loves Monuments and Wiki Loves Earth in Azerbaijan;
  • Outreach work in schools, universities and by social media to tell people about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects;
  • Participate and promote activities of Wikimedia educational program in the regions of Azerbaijan;
  • Improve and narrow relationship of Azerbaijani wiki-community with WMF and groups and chapters from other countries;
  • Develop informative content about the methodology of Wikimedia projects;
  • Work on the formation of Wikimedia Azerbaijan chapter;
  • Hold Wikimania in Azerbaijan in this decade.

Participants

User group consist of active users who are interested in developing of Azerbaijani wiki projects. To be a member of user group you are expected to be a regular contributor on at least one of the Wikimedia projects in Azerbaijani language (or contribute to meta/commons in a way that support or benefit these projects).

Language for internal communication of this user group is Azerbaijani but we report back to the foundation and the rest of the world in English.
