Revision as of 19:49, 2 November 2005

For adminship requests on this wiki see Requests for adminship. Completed requests are archived.

Requests for permissions is a page to ask for sysop/admin or bureaucrat access to any Wikimedia wiki where no local means exist to do so yet. A steward will only give you access if your wiki has no bureaucrats (someone who can make sysops). If your wiki has a bureaucrat, please use the requests for adminship page on your own wiki instead.

You can also ask for a bot flag here.

For urgent access (to combat ongoing large-scale vandalism), you may ask on the #wikimedia or #wikimedia-tech IRC channels instead.

All requests presented here should be archived, after they are processed.

Current requests for permissions

Please add information in the header for which language do you want your sysop/bureaucrat status. Please note that all adminships are subject to approval by the local community. If you are granted adminship and a complaint is later filed against you, this may be revoked immediately pending a vote (like en:WP:RFA) to ensure the community on your wiki supports your request.

Don't forget to inform your local community that you're requesting this status, and link to the appropriate request from this page. A steward will inform you when you have been made an admin/bureaucrat.

Please put your request at the end of one of the sections below.

Boilerplate for request for permission

You may want to fill it with your own information and use it. It contains three necessary information for request for permission(s).

Norfuk Wikipedia (sysop)

I would like to request sysop or bureaucrat access on pih.wikipedia. This wikipedia has just been created, at my instigation, and I would like to be able to begin translating the interface, among other things. My username over there is "Pall Mall". Pallmall 11:50, 24 October 2005 (UTC).[reply]

Ido Wikipedia (sysop)

Please, would you give the sysop access to the user Fafnir en Ido Wikipedia. We all three old ones support him. The discussion about the matter has been held (in Ido) in my talk-page. – On behalf of the administrators, - Artomo.

Please make a local Request for adminship page on your Ido Wikipedia. I see that the others are concerned about the number of administrators on your Wikipedia. You shoud have an appropiate voting tool in order to set new admins. -Romihaitza 16:09, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
done. Next time, please do the discussion in the admin page. Anthere
please do not archive as I asked editors over there additional opinion on the sysophood. Thanks Anthere

Hi, this is mithridates on the Ido Wikipedia. I wasn't opposed to the idea of Fafnir becoming a sysop, but I did raise the question about what the others have been up to recently. You can see for example that we have six of them whereas Esperanto has seven but ten times the number of users, and only myself, Fafnir and Artomo are there every day. My problem then was with the other three sysops that only seemed to be around during the inception (June 2004) before I started learning the language (April 2005) and I think it might be a good idea to revoke the status of perhaps two of them. Not that I know who they are, I just know that those two don't come around all that much, and I think a sysop should be on the encyclopedia at least every other day. Fafnir is one of our busiest editors and so I think he deserved the nomination much more than some of them. I suppose I should see how one goes about revoking sysop status and then ask Artomo about the matter. mithridates

On the other hand, Nynorsk has 11 administrators for only 515 users. I don't know, when are there too many? Is there an ideal number of them, and should I be worried about having six for only 135 users or so? me again

Hi, I do not think there is an ideal percentage... it varies on projects. However, if you think inactive sysops should not be sysops anymore, just make a policy to remove inactive sysops or a system to reconfirm them after a year. This exist on several projects (such as meta, nl, de...) See m:sysop. Every quarter, on meta, we reconfirm sysops and remove inactive ones. You may do this, or not. Just your choice. Stewards can remove the status for you. Anthere 08:44, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Requests for Bot status

To register a bot, please mention its name and the local wiki on which it will work here and make a public announcement about your intention on the local wiki and add a link to this annoucement here. The status will be given if no one will oppose your request.

Warning: for some big wikipedias, such as en:, you will need to specifically request an authorization over there. See en:Wikipedia talk:Bots for approval by a sysop and then ask for the bot flag here. Bot policy on Wiktionary (in particular en.wiktionary) is under discussion so bots should not be made without approval of the appropriate wiki. See Beer parlour.

This is a simple replace.py bot, I admit it has only been on en:Wikipedia talk:Bots for 6 days, but I am pretty keen for it too be flagged, and by the time this is read it will probably be over 7 days anyway! It has been thouroughly tested without problem. thanks Bluemoose 13:02, 31 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm requesting bot flag on :en WP (see request on :en). After ones week run, there were one problem with bot, but it was fixed. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 10:58, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Unsure if approval given yet. Asked for clarification at w:en:Wikipedia talk:Bots. Angela 10:43, 25 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I believe we're hanging fire until the bot's author tells us exactly what is going on - there's been some confusion understanding exactly what interwiki links the bot will be updating. Initially, we were led to believe that the bot would be updating five language's worth of interwiki links, but it transpires what the author intended was to have the bot updating all interwiki links on five Wikipedias. At the English Wikipedia, we have a policy whereby interwiki link bot's owners must understand the affected languages, so if the latter ends up being the objective here, then we may have a problem. Rob Church Talk 03:08, 27 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

The bot is using standard python wikipedia interwiki.py script, so I feel that this is not a problem. As for misunderstandig: I'm using this bot on 4 (5 if :en would be approved) WP to change IW of all WP. Regards, --Klemen Kocjancic 20:10, 28 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

You say it's updating the interwiki links for all languages? That conflicts with en-wiki's requirement that you understand the languages, I do believe. Might be best to hang fire a bit longer and see what people think back on en-wiki. Rob Church Talk 03:20, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

RobotJcb

I don't know the policies on other wikipedias, but at pt: bots need community approval. This bot has not been approved yet (in fact, it just got presented minutes ago). Nuno Tavares 10:44, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
This looks like now there is. Jcb 15:46, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, that doesn't mean anything, but that your bot has been recognized as one, but still not accepted to run with a botflag (marcados versus não marcados). Please hang on, Jcb. What's the rush, anyway? retoric question. Nuno Tavares 20:47, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
What is your problem with my robot? Last night YOU blocked my robot without even trying to contact me in advance and without even trying to contact me afterwards. The summary of the block was: "unintroduced robot". Although the robot has been turned off you did not answer to my request to unblock my IP. So at the moment my IP is still blocked at PT without any reason. From somewhere else I introduced the robot in your village pump. It's normal to do that together with the bot flag request on meta. After that YOU personally 'disapproved' my robot. At other Wikipedias the community may decide thing like that, but at PT it seems that you decide it on your own. And then, the only reason you gave for your disapproval: "Disapprove. Deliver warnfiles at WP:CR. We have already an NL bot running with the flag set." How can that possibly be a reason? I am and IA.wikipedia user (and moderator) as well. If I introduce myself as an IA user with a robot it would be OK??? Like a steward said today in your village pump, that's completely nonsense. Jcb 22:11, 12 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Nonsense or not, and unlike what you suggest in this last message that I decide this kind of things on my own (I just stated my opinion there), there are procedures to be followed; otherwise the stewards here wouldn't need a discussion page. Anyway, this discussion shall flow on his own page, not here. I wonder why don't you discuss this at that page. BTW, your IP has been unblocked for days. To Stewards: please suspend this sole request until pt:community approves, there are policies being discussed there and Jcb is aware of that, unlike what he's trying to suggest here. Please read the suggested page for on-going development. Nuno Tavares 05:57, 13 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of access

Self-de-adminship, or removal of bot flags from your bot can be requested here, and will be granted immediately. You may be asked to prove you are the same user on meta as on your local wiki first, by putting information on your talk page on your local wiki, that you're requesting de-adminship. To request the removal of sysop access from another user, please gain consensus on this on your own wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When it is finished and there is a community consensus to desysop a user, a trusted person from that wiki should just provide a link here to the discussion and a very brief explanation of what the results of that were.
