Azerbaijani Wikimedians User Group (az. "Azərbaycan vikimediaçıları" istifadəçi qrupu) is a group formed by active members of Azerbaijani Wikimedia projects who are interested in organizing and participating in outreach activities on a national level. Members of the current user group have been active for several years already, doing among other activities workshops and presentations for university students and young people in the regions of Azerbaijan, and contributing to Commons and Azerbaijani Wikimedia projects.

Name

We use the name Azerbaijani Wikimedians User Group and plan to call our future chapter Wikimedia Azerbaijan. We will use WMAZ as an abbreviation for both names.

Objectives

  • Translate and adapt Wikipedia policies and guidelines that are currently missing in Azerbaijani;
  • Launch new Wikimedia projects that do not yet exist in the Azerbaijani language;
  • Improve both the quality and quantity of Azerbaijan-related articles across Wikimedia projects;
  • Expand content related to Azerbaijan on Wikimedia Commons;
  • Plan and effectively execute Wiki Loves Monuments and Wiki Loves Earth in Azerbaijan;
  • Conduct outreach in schools, universities, and on social media to raise awareness about Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects;
  • Promote and support Wikimedia education programs across various regions of Azerbaijan;
  • Strengthen the relationship between the Azerbaijani wiki-community and the WMF, as well as with other user groups and chapters worldwide;
  • Develop informative materials about the methodology of Wikimedia projects;
  • Work towards the formation of Wikimedia Azerbaijan chapter;
  • Hold Wikimania in Azerbaijan within this decade.

Language for internal communication of this user group is Azerbaijani but we report back to the foundation and the rest of the world in English.
