The following proposal is in bilingual format, the first part is English translation and the second part (after a slash sign) is the original text in Traditional Chinese. The reason of doing this is for two different group of people to read this proposal: the GAC member, who are mainly Wikimedians do not understand Traditional Chinese; and the Taiwanese Community in Wikimedia Universe, who use Chinese as their main language. We mainly use Chinese and try to translate this proposal in English as accurate as possible, but if it's not clear in the proposal, please feel free to ask and we will explain it, thank you. -- Liang (WMTW)

  1. To create a friendlier space for regular Wikimedia meet-ups of solely women. /
  2. Translate global documents, films, and webpages of "Women participation into WIkimedia Movements" into Chinese, in order to work toward this task even easier for Chinese Wikimedia community. /
  3. Produce a Chinese report at least once a month during the project. We will study how to increase the participation of women in Wikimedia Movement according to the result on the observation of these meet-ups. /

The very first meet up of "A Room of WikiWomen's Own", we can only provide regular chairs without any cozy ambiance; the space next to the meet up is not very friendly for potential participants as mother to take care of their own baby or kids. Imagine if we can redesign the whole place... /
This grant will provide the women exclusive meet up "A Room of WikiWomen's Own“, basically under the following 5 purposes-- /
  1. Purchase certain goods that may make the venue more welcoming for female participants editing Wikimedia projects in May 2015, here are some of the items planning to buy (The items will be finalized after discussion by community members.): /
    1. Furnitures: furnitures that can make people feel relaxed with high movability. Such as bean bags, carpets, cushions, fabric-covered boxes...etc /
    2. Accessories: items may be found in a room of women. Such as feminism books, puppets, candles, paintings or photographs on the wall...etc /
    3. Nursery and playable items: allow women can bring their kids to join the meet up, so it can increase their willingness to come. Such as toys, children books, crayons... etc /
  2. The expense on the venue between May 2015 to May 2016. The venue give us total access to redesign/modify the space and also provide snacks and drinks that can reduce our cost on those category in our budget, and the place is also very near to the office of Wikimedia Taiwan, so even though it's not totally free, it's our first choice to host the event.(It will depend on the negotiation between Wikimedia Taiwan and the venue owner to determine the whether the owner can sponsor part of the venue expense.) /
  3. Publications and souvenirs for the meet up. Such as campaign fliers, stickers, and small artifacts that related to the meet up. /
  4. Host a party during March to May 2016 as for demonstrating the outcome of the year. /
  5. Ten to fifteen percent will be the income for Wikimedia Taiwan as the promotion and administrative cost of the organization. /

Please select the Wikimedia strategic priority(ies) that your project most directly aims to impact and explain how your project fits. Most projects fit all strategic priorities. However, we would like project managers to focus their efforts on impacting 1–2 strategic priorities. Examples of strategic priorities can be found here.

The project will help to reach the strategic goal of "increase participation". This project is tend to make meet up of WikiWomen possible in Taiwan, and make lots of women who don't have any editing experience before to comfortably learn how to do it. In the mean time, we will also brainstorm and experiment on the ways to improve female participation in Wikimedia movement, in order to make other meet ups more accessible for women./

Measures of success

Please provide a list of both quantitative and qualitative criteria that will be used to determine how successful the project is. You will need to report on the success of the project according to these measures after the project is completed. See the PEG program resources for suggested measures of success.

We will consider this project a success if we have reached the following criteria: /
  1. To host at least 12 WikiWomen meet ups and have a observation report by the member of Wikimedia Taiwan for each meet up. /
  2. To translate at least 100,000 bytes of gender gap or WikiWomen related web pages on meta wiki. /

Note: In addition to your project-specific measures of success, you will also be asked to report on some global metrics at the end of your final report. Please keep this in mind as you plan, and we'll support you as you begin your project.

  1. The Wikimedia community in Taiwan has never done any research on participation issues on women, we may get very bad in promoting or providing what women really needs. In order to solve this issue, we are working with WoFOSS which has a long experience of incubating female communities, we ask its help on promotion and marketing. We also plan to ask the women who participate in the meet ups to take the lead on ideas and forms of these meet ups. The team members of this project will focus on ask for more grants and outside help, and make women themselves to lead the meet ups. /
