Agbalagba/Yoruba Wikipedia Radio Program
One of the major problems facing the Yoruba Wikipedia is lack of awareness. People are only familiar with the English Wikipedia. They don't know that other language versions of Wikipedia exists. The aim of this project is to promote the Yoruba Wikipedia on a major radio station in Nigeria.

Project Plan[edit]

Activities[edit]

Tell us how you'll carry out your project. Be sure to answer the following questions:

1. What is your promotion plan?
You can do a campaign involving billboards or rickshaw announcements to promote a Wikimedia projects, such as Santali Wikipedia, at different places in a city. You can promote an online campaign such as Wiki Loves Monuments on Facebook, Twitter, etc using ads. You can also create gifs/slideshows or other easy to make multimedia files and use them to promote your project on social media.

I plan to launch a weekly program on major radio station in Nigeria to discuss interesting facts about the Yoruba Wikipedia, the community and it's contents. As part of the program, there would be a session for quiz where we ask some questions and listeners would have to visit the Yoruba Wikipedia to find an answer and call-in. Winners would be awarded a gift at the end of each programs. The program will attract new readers, especially listeners of the radio program. It's a weekly program that would be aired for 12 weeks (3 months)

2. How will you let your community know about the promotion campaign?
Please paste links below to where relevant communities have been notified of your proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.

  • Yorùbá Wikimedians User Group notified, see here
  • Yoruba Wikipedia community notified. See link here

3.Do you have any experience in promoting Wikimedia projects either online or offline?
Were you involved in a similar project in the past? Do you have any other experience related to online/offline promotion?

Yes, I have experience in promoting Wikipedia online and offline. I am the President of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group. I was a production manager for at least two awareness campaign videos, Afrocuration Campaign video produced in collaboration with the Moleskine Foundation and a Short Wikipedia Documentary for Wikipedia 20.

4. What is your post-promotion plan?
What do you plan to do after your campaign ends?

At the end of the program, we will follow-up with participants who call in during the program and the winners of the quiz. We will use our WhatsApp group and other relevant channels to engage them.

5. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:

No.

6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

  • Support Support This is a laudable project to promoting the Yoruba language Wikipedia. I'd be happy to serve as an advisor on this project, having co-produced at least two (2) Wiki Radio programs in the past and both were very successful. T CellsTalk 13:33, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
  • Support Support Lack of awareness is a major lag in Yorùbá Wikipedia. This project will be greatly effective considering the large reach of radio stations to native speaker of Yoruba language nationwide. Kudo to the grantee.Macdanpets (talk) 14:43, 22 February 2021 (UTC)
