Yoruba Academy Event
The Yoruba Academy has invited the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group to their event tagged Ododo Eye to commensurate the Children's Day on 27th May 2021. We have been asked to present about the Yoruba Wikipedia. This is a very important event to our community as many Yoruba language Scholars, Teachers, students and Yoruba language enthusiasts would be present. The Ministry of Education is also participating in the event. This opportunity would provide a platform for us to promote the Yoruba language Wikipedia among these people. This would be a platform for us to recruit Yoruba language native speakers, scholars, teachers and students for Yoruba Wikipedia.

We plan to distribute some customized swags such as exercise books, pen, jotter, and T-shirts to participants as we believe that swags are important in outreach efforts and a useful tools for promotion.

The Yoruba Academy has invited the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group to their event tagged Ododo Eye to commensurate the Children's Day on 27th May 2021. We have been asked to present about the Yoruba Wikipedia. We plan to send at least two representatives of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group to attend the Event to present about the Yoruba Wikipedia.


1. What is your promotion plan?
You can do a campaign involving billboards or rickshaw announcements to promote a Wikimedia projects, such as Santali Wikipedia, at different places in a city. You can promote an online campaign such as Wiki Loves Monuments on Facebook, Twitter, etc using ads. You can also create gifs/slideshows or other easy to make multimedia files and use them to promote your project on social media.

We plan to present about the Yoruba Wikipedia, Show this short Yoruba promotion video to the audience, and distribute some promotional material, and customized swags such as exercise books, pen, jotter, and T-shirts to participants as we believe that swags are important in outreach efforts and a useful tools for promotion.

We will notify the community member through village pump and our social media handles.

Were you involved in a similar project in the past? Do you have any other experience related to online/offline promotion?

Yes, we have experience in promoting Wikimedia projects online and offline.


4. What is your post-promotion plan?
What do you plan to do after your campaign ends?

Following our presentation, we will ask participants to register their names in a form we would have prepared. We will use the information collected such as phone number and email to contact and follow up with them.


5. Are you running any in-person events or activities? If so, you will need to complete the steps outlined on the Risk Assessment protocol related to COVID-19. When you have completed these steps, please provide a link to your completed copy of the risk assessment tool below:


6. Is there anything else you want to tell us about this project?

This would be our first partnership this year and we hope to maximize the opportunity to promote the Yoruba Wikipedia and recruit more volunteers.

  1. If at least two representative of the Yoruba Wikimedians User Group participate in the event
  2. If at least one presentation about the Yoruba Wikipedia is presented
  3. If at least one Yoruba Wikipedia promotion video is publicly shown

Total budget = USD 1,850 (NGN 703,824)

Note on promotion item distribution
  1. We understand that shirt is a high quality material. This is why we are producing 20 units only which will be given to management and senior staff members of the Yoruba Academy.
  2. The Exercise books and Pen would be given to the students.
  3. The custom Jotter and stickers will be given to Yoruba language scholars and teachers who will be attending the event.
