Tell us about how you contribute currently, and how you would contribute if WMF were to gift a used laptop to you.

Since 2016, I have been contributing to Odia wikipedia, Odia Wikisource and Commons. For more than a year now I have been using an entry-mid-level smartphone to contribute to Wikimedia projects. It has been incessantly difficult to edit many of the articles that have complex templates as my phone browser crashes and gets stuck during editing. I have even lost hundreds of my edits after spending hours in creating them, a gross loss of labor in a volunteer’s life. It was already quite difficult when I was contributing to Wikipedia only but after I started actively contributing to Odia Wikisource, more recently after the second anniversary of the project, there are new layers of complications as most of the Wikimedia projects are not very mobile-friendly when it comes to editing. The lack of access to a laptop or a PC is stopping me from contributing to particularly Wikipedia and Wikisource even though I want to contribute to these. Apart from contributing to the Wikimedia projects myself, I am also planning to contribute in offline outreach in my home state Odisha in India, and online outreach programmes where a computer will become really handy. My recent encounter with Wikidata has made me take more interest in the project, more because there are many entries in Odia Wikipedia that need to be added to Wikidata.

My activity has been limited to Wikipedia projects only because of the poor working condition of my laptop. The laptop battery drains so fast, problematic and hangs too. Now for a few months I am using mobile for my contribution. If I get a laptop as a gift from WMF it would be a great help for my contribution, while putting an end to the edits and effort I am bound to waste while editing.

She put the first laptop she got through the hardware donations program to really good use, until the battery died and it was no longer usable.
