International Roma Day Edit-a-thon
1-8 April 2022

On the occasion of International Roma Day, April 8, Wikimedia Serbia is organizing the third online global edit-a-thon in which Wikipedia volunteers around the world will write and improve articles on Roma minorities, their identity, history and culture. By spreading the knowledge our goal is to combat still-too-common barriers of prejudice and discrimination that they face too often while accessing employment, education, health care, public and social services and other areas of life. Roma people, Europe’s largest minority, have a rich history and they have made considerable contributions to the societies where they live. Their artistic and cultural heritage is all too often ignored or unnoticed, so we are hopeful that this campaign is a step closer towards reducing of the injustice.
The International Roma Day is a day to celebrate Roma culture and raise awareness of the issues Roma people face daily. We invite you to get in touch with Roma institutions and members of the Roma population in your countries and to introduce them to Wikipedia and other Wikimedia projects. Last year, the edit-a-thon reached 71 participants from 21 language editions of Wikipedia. In total, 237 articles were written and improved and 20 Wikidata items were created. We hope to have even more participants and articles written this year.
