Translation of ESEAP Conference 2018 Pages[edit]

Hi, on my talk page I have been asked to work on the labeling and marking of the ESEAP Conference 2018 pages for translation, however before I start working on this I would like to know if there is any objection. Thanks. —Alvaro Molina ( - ) 13:34, 12 January 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dates[edit]

Hi i would like to know if it is ok to skip Friday (which includes the registration) and only come on Saturday as I have examinations on that day and hence would not be able to come. Thanks 1.02 editor (talk) 00:53, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sri Lanka?[edit]

Hi. Just asking out of curiosity;

  1. May I know why Sri Lanka is not eligible?
  2. Also, was this conference announced publicly? Or was it discussed withing a non-public community? I ask only because I haven't heard about it until someone mentioned it on social media yesterday.

Had I known earlier, I would have tried to attend, or at least encouraged someone from my usergroup to attend. Thanks in advance. Kind regards, Rehman 16:16, 8 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, @Rehman: sorry for the late reply. Please read the answer below.

  1. Because when we discuss it at the first time, we plan for only East and Southeast Asia plus Australia only and we didn't plan to have all of the Asian countries to participate in the event, as it's our first event too for WMID and we can't handle a big number of participants. You can read the full history in here.
  2. It's actually published to social media (e.g. Wikimedia Asia Forum) and the same question of yours also appeared in the proposal.

So, let's hope we as the Wikimedia Asian Community can have bigger events next year, so every Asian community can have a chance to gather and discuss Wikimedia projects and movements. --Beeyan (talk) 12:49, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Wirjadisastra: and @Beeyan: I think Rehman's question on Sri Lanka would be useful to answer as it may clarify whether Sri Lanka editors can go next time? WhisperToMe (talk) 00:03, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Hello @WhisperToMe:: if we take a look of WMAU's proposal, South Asia is eligible for the next ESEAP. --Beeyan (talk) 12:49, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! WhisperToMe (talk) 14:52, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Foreign Wikipedians residing in Asian countries, and alternates?[edit]

Dear @Wirjadisastra: and @Beeyan:

This may be a bit academic since the signup periods have passed:

  • 1. Were foreign citizens residing in Asian countries eligible to attend? I looked at the criteria but I wasn't sure if foreign nationals residing in a particular country who were involved in that area's Wikipedia community were eligible to attend. For example I am a U.S. citizen residing in Shenzhen, China (on a one-year residency permit) who is a longtime editor of Wikimedia projects and have been involved with Wikimedia Hong Kong User Group. Would I have been eligible to be one of the attendees?
  • 2. Are alternate editors/attendees designated in case one/some are unable to go due to illness or unfavorable circumstances?

WhisperToMe (talk) 00:08, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear @WhisperToMe: please read the answer in here.

  1. For this ESEAP, it actually depends on your contribution to the community in ESEAP Region. We have one Indian participant, who happened to be very active in Wikimedia projects in Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam, and we're happy to invite him, as he's actively encouraging the Wikimedia projects to the new user in there. So, if you're really active and have the potential of giving to the community, you have a great chance to be chosen.
  2. Yes, we have the waiting list before, as we've got around 170 registrants. But, if someone suddenly can't attend, we'll inform the previous registrants. --Beeyan (talk) 12:55, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the feedback! I'll look around for next year's event :) WhisperToMe (talk) 14:51, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
