Question about orphaned pages[edit]

Is the rule about "no orphaned articles" necessary? I believe this is hard to implement in Wikipedia editions with small number of articles. It may discourage participants to participate as this requires finding articles to link to it. It may also entail to create an article not related to Feminism and Folklore, so that, it can be linked to the actual article related to Feminism and Folklore. This will be time consuming to volunteers who want to participate. I hope this rule is optional. Thanks. --Jojit (talk) 04:10, 21 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Jojit fb the international rules are a base guidelines of the rules for a wiki. If your community needs to modify the rules the organisers can do so and communicate on the talk page on meta. We wish you all the best. Happy organising. --Tiven2240 (talk) 08:02, 21 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thanks @Tiven2240: for the answer. The organizers from the Tagalog Wikipedia choose to make the "no orphaned articles" rule optional. The rest of the international rules shall also apply to the Tagalog Wikipedia. --Jojit (talk) 00:26, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you @Jojit fb for informing us. Happy organising and all the best --Tiven2240 (talk) 17:23, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Translation?[edit]

Can I add translate tags so that the project can be reached from more areas, as I am in ESEAP hub? Some small groups are working cross-border, and they are from colleges/post grads. Diff introduces you to other campaigns, which participants might enjoy this initiative as well. (: Omotecho (talk) 03:45, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Sure please and thank you @Omotecho :) --Tiven2240 (talk) 17:20, 23 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
page has been put through by @Minorax:. (: Thank you always for watching over the community, cheers, -- Omotecho (talk) 10:52, 27 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Clarification needed[edit]

Hi! I'd like to clarify some of the topics, since our wiki participates for the first time. When you write dancers, singers, musicians, game athletes -- do you mean exclusively folk dancers, folk musicians, folk singers? And what is "game athletes"? This is not clear to us.

Also: can the Campwiz tool be used to submit and jury the articles, or is only a standard dashboard? Do we need to use Fountain simultaneously?

Thanks a lot Xia (talk) 13:43, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Xia Congratulations on organising the contest for the first time on your wiki. The contest calls for participation to create and expand articles related to folk dancers, folk musicians, folk singers etc, the game atheletes can include sports sports game athelete or another games that are a part of various cultures or traditions of a country.
The default tool for the campaign is Campwiz it's customised for the Feminism and Folklore contest. You can use fountain as well if you are not familiar with Campwiz. Campwiz will offer adding and judging of articles functionality also. Hope this helps. Feel free to ping or reply if you need and further clarification we are happy to help. Once again happy organising. All the best --Tiven2240 (talk) 19:47, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. :) Xia (talk) 22:23, 24 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Participation[edit]

Is it possible to participate from any local although there is not a local organization? For example, is it possible to contrbiute in Turkish? Alperen (talk) 16:22, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes the contest shall have a organiser and members for jury. Users from Turkish community can come together and organise it. There is no need of a local organisation, fellow volunteers like you can take a lead and organise. @Alperen --Tiven2240 (talk) 17:06, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok, but how will the contributions be evaluated in the case a local jury can not be gathered? I think this point is not clear.--Alperen (talk) 17:22, 25 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Changing the criteria[edit]

Hello. Some participants of the Wiki Communities of the Chuvash, Bashkir and Tatar sections asked to change the criteria of the competition. In all three sections, the criterion for the minimum number of words added was changed from 400 to 250. And the number of bytes left is 4000. Please take into account the data and also change the criteria in Campwiz. All the participants who voted were in favor of changes. No one voted against it.--Il Nur (talk) 08:37, 8 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

Done. Now the require restrictions for these mwntioned language wikipedia are 250+ words OR 4000 bytes Nokib Sarkar (talk) 19:39, 9 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

About the Scope[edit]

I need some clarifications about the scope of the articles that can be created. In terms of biography, will only Women biographies be accepted? Should they only be about feminism? Or any other biography about women in any other areas (like sports) accepted? In folklore again, is the emphasize only about women biographies or any person who has some relation with folklore? Submission difficulty[edit]

Hello Organisers, I have a difficulty to submit one of my first article created on 1st Feb. When i submit the article ઈન્દુમતી ચીમનલાલ શેઠ Tool Shows below parameters... Done Total 12866 bytes, Done Total 405 words, Done Created At Wed Feb 01 2023, Done Created By Snehrashmi, Not done Added 173 bytes Not done Added 5 words

I can not understand why it is not submitted. I also created one stub article રુક્મિણી લક્ષ્મીપતિ and try to submit it. It has not enough words though it is accepted by tool while the first one has satisfy all the parameters it is not accepted. Please help me to resolve this issue. Snehrashmi (talk) 16:00, 7 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

@Nokib Sarkar please check --Tiven2240 (talk) 03:02, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Snehrashmi: Actually, this tool only considers the edits made after the campaign started and before the campaign ended. The campaign in Gujrati Wikipedia was started on February 1, 2024, but you created this article (ઈન્દુમતી ચીમનલાલ શેઠ) on February 1, 2023, about a year ago. After the campaign is started, you added only 5 words on March 7, 2024. I cannot say about other tool, but campwiz tool would consider these edits only and therefore, it must fail to fulfill the criteria. hope you find the answer satisfactory. Nokib Sarkar (talk) 05:50, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
O..O... My mistake. Sorry for bothering you all. I selected a previous year campaign category to add articles into tool... So stupid I am!... Thank you @Nokib Sarkar for pointing it. Snehrashmi (talk) 03:28, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
More More: Our tool criteria is ORed, that is 4000 bytes OR 400 words, not the both. The second stub article (રુક્મિણી લક્ષ્મીપતિ) has less than 400 words, but it has more than 4000 bytes, therefore accepted. Nokib Sarkar (talk) 05:50, 8 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
Ok... I think it should be 4000 bytes and 400 words. Pretty. Snehrashmi (talk) 03:32, 9 March 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Snehrashmi: It used to be ANDed before. But some objection were seen to AND (since standard rules mention OR). So I changed it to OR. I don't remember the discussion link at this moment. May be @Tiven2240: can add something. Nokib Sarkar (talk) 02:08, 10 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Mass submission of articles[edit]

Mass submission of articles in a day (fake end of competition) is done by some people. It is against the spirit of the competition. Such kind of activities must be avoided. சத்திரத்தான் (talk) 10:11, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Yes, Mass submission of articles at the end of competition will demotivate the other participants. Te community can confirm on how valid are those articles. However I would request Global Team to standardize the process to ensure fare competition.-Neechalkaran (talk) 12:19, 30 March 2024 (UTC)Reply

Recurring technical issue[edit]

Hi!

A purely technical issue for the organizers' attention!

I've just fixed two instances of wiki markup errors in mass messages that you sent—one for 2023 and one for 2024. It's the same error: You wrote a <div> tag after ::. Here's a diff.

That <div> is generally necessary for aligning the text correctly from left to right in a right-to-left wiki. However, <div> tag starts its own paragraph, so it's wrong to put it after "::". This produces warnings from the Linter, and can cause other things on the same talk page to be displayed incorrectly. Please make sure that in the future you don't put a <div> tag immediately after ::

If you have any more questions about this particular error or general questions about support for right-to-left languages, please ask me any time! :) Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:04, 15 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Objection about evaluation process in English Wikipedia[edit]

The rules clearly state that "The expanded or new article should have a minimum 4000 bytes and/or 400 words". This clearly means satisfying only one of these conditions is enough. However most of the articles I have created have been rejected on the basis that they are less than 400 words or they have unsourced paragraphs (that requirement again is not mentioned in the rules). I request a re-evaluation. Alperen (talk) 19:55, 17 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hi @Alperen thanks for reaching out. Did you connect with the organisers on local Wikipedia. @ZI Jony please check. --Tiven2240 (talk) 02:58, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
@Alperen and Tiven2240:, for expanded articles minimum 4000 bytes or 400 words we accepted, for new article, minimum 4000 bytes and 400 words is the best option we considered. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 06:26, 18 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

Prize and Recognition[edit]
