thoughts on building meta community around steward activity

[edit]

It would be good to have more cross-wiki barnraisings that require steward interaction; that would both help stewards maintain their level of activity and bring new people into the fold. I still think of stewards as carrying on many of the tasks that Ambassadors used to do when they were an active part of the global community...

It's a pity that there isn't an obvious way to use the current interest of all the recent steward candidates who didn't make the cut. Those that aren't normally part of the meta community might benefit from more interaction here. -- sj | help translate |+

I'm not commenting on what you're saying, but shouldn't this perhaps be on the noticeboard itself...? —Anonymous DissidentTalk 13:06, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Update proposal

[edit]

Hello. If there is no opposition; I'd like to change the appearance of the noticeboard. An example can be found here. With that change, I'd set up MiszaBot to automatically archive threads older than 15/30 days too so that only "living topics" will be shown there. The links of the archives box will appear automatically too. Thanks for your oppinions. Very best, — Dferg (talk) 19:31, 17 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Please do.  — mikelifeguard@meta:~$  01:51, 18 March 2010 (UTC)Reply

Request for disable 2FA on my Wikipedia account

[edit]

I have been logged out from my Wikipedia account, I had enabled 2steps verification and didn't saved QR Code and Login Tokens for future login, now I insert username and password it asks me insert token which I don't have, AnDOTp and Google Authenticator apps are not useful in m case, I may have requested on Phabricator for disabling steps verification but Phabricator also asks to login via Wikipedia account and I am already logged out from all wikis. Some one told me to email on Write to ca@wikimedia.org from the email account connected to your wikiaccount. But I haven't yet received any reply to my email. Can you plz help me to disable 2FA, User:JogiAsad

Stewards can't help you. 2FA can only remove from the Trust and Safety team by the wmf. See Help:Two-factor_authentication#Recovering_from_a_lost_or_broken_authentication_device ..𝐖𝐢𝐤𝐢𝐁𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐫 👤💬 08:03, 13 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

We simply aren't privileged to unlock 2FA. We don't have a such button. We can only make people see the 'enable 2FA' button, and no more. There is no such 'Disable 2FA for this user' thing. If WMF is not helping you, there is nothing we can do to help you. — regards, Revi 21:11, 21 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@JogiAsad: or 2600:387:A:902:0:0:0:33, I'm trying to help you by creating an Phabricator task T258539, I also don't know T&S will accept it or not. But please email to ca@wikimedia.org from the email address associated with your account and include a link to this ticket. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 22:08, 21 July 2020 (UTC)Reply
@JogiAsad: reminder. Please also include the URL (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T258539) of that ticket in your email. Regards, ZI Jony (Talk) 10:19, 23 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

A dispute to report an abrupt deletion of a Page "Premanad Maharaj"

[edit]

I am a new user of Wikipedia and am very interested in the workaround of spirituality-related pages. I was working on a Hindi Wikipedia page titled as "Premanad Maharaj" (Premanand Maharaj). Someone tagged the page as "Notability not proven," which sparked a discussion (Discussion for the removal of the Page Premanand Maharaj) and subsequent voting. The tag was overwhelmingly voted against. It was a six out of zero. A total of six people supported the page, and there were zero votes against it. However, on April 23, SM7 (@SM7) abruptly removed the page without concluding the discussion; this abrupt and spontaneous reaction made us lose faith in the integrity and coalition nature of Wikipedia, and according to its policies, this violates its guidelines. According to Hindi Wikipedia's policy, seniors should be able to assist new users and guide them to work further instead of blocking them from participating in this novel task. The reason for the deletion of the page was “Clear Publicity”. But I am afraid that there was hardly any line that indicates publicity, but I don’t refuse the judgment agreement of the reverend seniors. There might be a chance of a mistake, but If they believe it was publicity, then they can intimate or remove the content or lines that are against the policy. I don’t believe it is necessary for the page deletion to showcase the authorisation they have in the disguise of clouded personal choice. I request that Wikipedia investigate the incident and inspire new users to use quality content delivery, and seniors should encourage other young users. I request to check the page again and make it LIVE if there is no issue, which I am sure of. If this platform is inappropriate for this complaint, kindly paste my complaint on the actual related page or point me in the correct direction. ++ Looping the admins @Sanjeev bot @संजीव कुमार @अनिरुद्ध कुमार @अजीत कुमार तिवारी Subh9019 (talk) 08:24, 27 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

This deletion was performed by an admin of that project. Please (a) Read w:hi:विकिपीडिया:पृष्ठ_हटाने_की_नीति#शीघ्र_हटाना, (b) follow up at w:hi:सदस्य वार्ता:SM7 if you have a question for that administrator, (c) notice that hiwiki has multiple active admins and that we stewards are not going to interfere in their content inclusion decisions. — xaosflux Talk 16:48, 27 April 2024 (UTC)Reply

IP BLOCK exemption.

[edit]

Hello, I’ve requested a Global IP block exemption under Steward Requests. Please review when possible. Thank you!” Ghostangelo (talk) 15:31, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Someone will get to it, as you can see there is a backlog. — xaosflux Talk 15:49, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

[edit]

Does anyone have any idea about localising "This user vanish request has been automatically approved" from User:AccountVanishRequests. Thanks. signed, Aafi (talk) 22:50, 1 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

The message is MediaWiki:Globalvanishrequest-autoapprove-public-note, I think it should be translatable, rather than needing localization. — xaosflux Talk 23:06, 1 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Xaosflux: Translation is not working. I created this on Hindi Wikipedia in July, but it's still displaying in English. – DreamRimmer 09:35, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps open a software bug on the extension. — xaosflux Talk 10:29, 2 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
nopes: as you said it should be translatable [1]... The translated string from translatewiki (once updated) should make the stuff work. signed, Aafi (talk) 17:08, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
I created this in July. – DreamRimmer 17:11, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
It is not currently possible to translate that text, since it is used as a log entry comment only. The software loads the message in the content language (English) when a vanish request is auto-approved, which is then saved to the log entry instead of a reference to the message key. Taavi (talk!) 17:22, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, I suppose it is - but this log is only going to be in the language of the project that makes it, you don't see these messages on other projects, right? @Aafi where are you seeing this message used other than here on meta-wiki (where the base language is English). — xaosflux Talk 19:11, 3 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Xaosflux: Commons, Simple and en-wiki simply rely on the interface. See c:MediaWiki:Globalvanishrequest-autoapprove-public-note & en:MediaWiki:Globalvanishrequest-autoapprove-public-note -- these don't exist locally including the one here. Hebrew Wikipedia, for example, also relies on the interface (he:מדיה ויקי:Globalvanishrequest-autoapprove-public-note doesn't exist locally, and that's how fr.wikipedia does it as well. Intersting but the edit summaries used there (see fr:Special:Contributions/AccountVanishRequests seem very different than the actual message. signed, Aafi (talk) 06:52, 4 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
It seems you are pointing to a "moved the page" log there? Can you point to an example of the log message you are asking about above (the autoapprove-public-note one)? — xaosflux Talk 10:19, 4 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
My bad. Seems the actual log reason there (frwiki & hewiki) as well. I checked a few more projects (arwiki) and it appears to be in English only despite the translation on translatewiki. signed, Aafi (talk) 15:26, 4 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
OK, yup file that or update that at phab. That the 'local logs' aren't using the local internationalization log summary. — xaosflux Talk 18:42, 4 February 2026 (UTC)Reply
