Divisions by tracks

[edit]

My idea is first to divide conference programme by tracks and then ask selected people to provide a "keynotes" for each track at the beginning and then let other people to submit their talks/workshops which must fit with the main goal of the track...

Tracks:

  1. For newcomers/icebreaker - the goal is to let newcomers smoothly join the "business"
    • Profesionally organized icebreaker
    • Introductory lecture about Wikimedia movement organizational structure - who does what, who and how makes decissions ?
    • Chapters/Thematic groups how to grow and develop session
    • How to write a good grant application
  2. Capacity-building/programs - the goal - how to develop new programs/increase impact of existing ones
    • General topic on capacity building of chapters - money, infrastructure, staff
    • Content creation/donation projects (including cooperation with GLAMs)
    • Seeking for volunteers/keeping active the current ones
    • Outreach and promotion in general
  3. Chapters dialogue - what we can learn from each other
    • Cross chapter project proposals
    • Legal issues/common problems
    • Spontaneous meetings of interesting parties
  4. Program monitoring and funding - how to disseminate effectively resources, how to evaluate their effectives
    • FDC session?
    • Project and Event Grants seesion?
    • Microgrants system
    • Evaluation tools workshop
  5. Fundraising - the goal is to exchange the ideas of fundraising in order to help WMF fundraising team as well as develop new methods of fundraising
    • Workshop/meeting/discussion panel with someone from WMF fundraising team?
    • Workshop about alternative methods developed by some chapters
  6. Strategy - general discussion about goals and future of Wikimedia movement?
    • A meeting with Board of Trustees?
    • General discussion panel? (might be about everything and nothing) ;-)
    • Kind of summary wrap-up of all conference?

About the division by tracks

[edit]

1: Would be great, from my point of view, to define as much, 4 o 5 topics to focus the conference.
2: We can prepare in advance the tentative agenda to be discussed by the communitty and defined after analizing the opinions.
3: We can learn from each other, as you say, and we can work together, a half day to share experiences and to foster actions between chapter would be great: a more inclusive movement must be a main objetive of the conference
4: Strategic Planning, funding, projects management, metrics and evaluation and establishment of common main strategic lines regarding the movement would be great as workshops.--Anna Torres (WMAR) (talk) 14:26, 17 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Meeting with the BoT

[edit]

I don't know how enough productive these meetings (in Q&A format) with the entire BoT are. Maybe having some Board members (and Lila) at a general discussion panel, with some staff members, and maybe some representatives from the chapters would save precious time we can use for other meetings and trainings. --Maor X (talk) 16:10, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'd appreciate a different thing, too. Alice Wiegand (talk) 12:11, 26 January 2015 (UTC)Reply
The Board will be present with probably 5-6 members and we are looking forward to meet you, listen to you and discuss and debate with you. Our intention is to add some kind of "extra" to the meeting, some active participation rather than being there but not involved. We would be happy to get your ideas about how that could look like. I'm here to coordinate with yuo, you can contact me per mail or prepare this part of the meeting here on meta. Alice Wiegand (talk) 15:35, 3 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Moving forward with conference tracks

[edit]

Based on today's conference call, I would like to move forward with researching the conference tracks. Each track will be developed by groups of 2–3 people who will research the issues affecting each track and identify what specific issue should be addressed. This work should be done by January 31. Please sign up for a track below; if not enough people sign up, I will start volunteering people. Feel free to consult the notes on Etherpad. harej (talk) 23:36, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
