News materials

[edit]

WMF News is now available in eight languages: English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Dutch, Russian and Arabic. Anyone may help keeping it to date :)

If your favorite language "news section" on Home doesn't exist yet, or its last update was before 2006 November, you may want to copy the whole template to your workspace, and then translate it.

Uploaded versions may be removed here.

How does the wmf website work?

[edit]

On the Foundation website, news are divided into templates by language and month like "Template:News-en/2007-04". You may create a new template for your news or just add it to the latest template. It would be best to have a link on your workspace in the following format: [[Wikimedia:Template:News-yourlangcode/{{CURRENTYEAR}}-{{CURRENTMONTH }}]].

Example: If you are working on French, it could be written as [[Wikimedia:Template:News-fr/{{CURRENTYEAR}}-{{CURRENTMONTH}}]].

The templates by month may be inclusions of Template:News-xx which "Home" and "Current events" may include. Those templates may be convenient for you to archive the items from Home page to "event" pages (either current or past).
