Wikivoyage 2013 logo selection process

[edit]

Hello, AleXXw. I want to thank you for submitting your logo design to the process. Obviously, the community was quite taken with it and voted accordingly. Our legal department has identified some problems with the proposal, but they believe that you can modify the logo to avoid legal issues. Essentially, you would need to change the shape of the three arrow elements in the design. They cannot be shaped as concave quadrilaterals, but they can be triangles, quadrilaterals that are not concave, or other shapes. They would need to review this after the finalist community consultation, on August 17th, to be sure they could submit it for the final vote. You are welcome to submit it to us sooner, in case you want to make further modifications if there are outstanding issues.

We really appreciate your submitting your logo and do apologize for the complication, but after the issues with the first logo we would like to make sure that this one does not encounter similar issues. Thank you! --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 13:07, 10 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

thsnks for the review, I'll look at it just after Wikimania. Sadly I have to say that using other kind of arrows would generate a completly other Logo... Could you say what Logo might be issued, perhaps per mail or personal here in Hong Kong? I've done several serches but couldn't find anything similar... Best --AleXXw (talk) 14:44, 10 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Hi AleXXw. Perhaps changing the two line segments forming the concavity to a concave curve would be sufficient and would not change the logo too much. Cheers, · · · Peter (Southwood) (talk): 16:16, 11 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I think new variant 4 could be a well accepted one between the community. However, we need to find out the legal department opinion asap to continue the discussion in a productive way. Who can organize it, Maggie perhaps? --Danapit (talk) 12:13, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
I have sent an email asking. :) --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 12:48, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you, Maggie. --Danapit (talk) 12:53, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
The legal team says that variant 4 is fine, User:Danapit. :) --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 16:02, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply
Great! Best --AleXXw (talk) 16:19, 14 August 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi there. Thanks for your hard work on the new logo! Could you possibly churn up a version that says "Wikiviajes"? I think the folks over at es: would appreciate it. Thanks! Texugo (talk) 22:07, 2 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Yes, we would appreciate it a lot. I'd also like to know if we can make a version with the text below the three arrows, if it isn't much work. Thanks you :) — ΛΧΣ21 03:41, 3 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I'll create the Wikiviajes-Version this evening. @Hahc21: I can create such version, but it wouldn't be the elected logo anymore ;) Best --AleXXw (talk) 04:27, 3 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

I know, but it can have some use in the future ;) Thank you again! Oh, I rotated your logo a bit to create the new versions of the user right logos. Cheers! — ΛΧΣ21 05:32, 3 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Here they are. Best --AleXXw (talk) 09:13, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi! I have a request too. Could you make a Polish version logo Wikivoyage, "Wikipodróże"? Thanks in advance. Sewerin94 (talk)

I'm pleased to do so, see right. Best --AleXXw (talk) 20:15, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much! :) Sewerin94 (talk)

If you want me to localize the logo I'd ask you to provide

  • text for the first line ("wiki" in original)
  • text for the second line ("voyage" in original)
  • language-code (ie de for Deutsch or en for English)

For most latin fonts I'll have no problem to find that infos out, but it would be hard for me for many others ;) Best --AleXXw (talk) 20:36, 4 September 2013 (UTC)Reply

Lizenz für Grundrisse aus dem Dehio

[edit]

Hallo AleXXw,

Wikimania 2014

[edit]

Hi!

My name is Victor and I'm a storyteller and video producer for the Wikimedia Foundation. I'll be looking to capture stories about Wikimedians at Wikimania in London in a week. Here is an example of the kind of thing that I'm aiming to do. I saw that you're attending Wikimania and I was wondering if you might have some time to talk about your work on Wikimedia projects. Anyway let me know if you are interested, I'll be at Wikimania from the 6th-10th of August and would need maybe 30 minutes of your time. I can answer any questions you may have. I’m best reached at vgrigas(at)wikimedia.org

Thanks!

Vgrigas (talk) 18:06, 1 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

This is a message from the Wikimedia Foundation. Translations are available.

As you may know, the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees approved a new "Access to nonpublic information policy" on 25 April 2014 after a community consultation. The former policy has remained in place until the new policy could be implemented. That implementation work is now being done, and we are beginning the transition to the new policy.

An important part of that transition is helping volunteers like you sign the required confidentiality agreement. All Wikimedia volunteers with access to nonpublic information are required to sign this new agreement, and we have prepared some documentation to help you do so.

The Wikimedia Foundation is requiring that OTRS volunteers sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain their access. You are receiving this email because you have been identified as an OTRS volunteer and are required to sign the confidentiality agreement under the new policy. If you do not sign the new confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015, you will lose your OTRS access. OTRS volunteers have a specific agreement available, if you have recently signed the general confidentiality agreement for another role (such as CheckUser or Oversight), you do not need to sign the general agreement again, but you will still need to sign the OTRS agreement.

Signing the confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information is conducted and tracked using Legalpad on Phabricator. We have prepared a guide on Meta-Wiki to help you create your Phabricator account and sign the new agreement: Confidentiality agreement for nonpublic information/How to sign

If you have any questions or experience any problems while signing the new agreement, please visit this talk page or email me (gvarnum(_AT_)wikimedia.org). Again, please sign this confidentiality agreement by 31 December 2015 to retain your OTRS access. If you do not wish to retain this access, please let me know and we will forward your request to the appropriate individuals.

Thank you,
Gregory Varnum (User:GVarnum-WMF), Wikimedia Foundation

Help decide the future of Wikimania

[edit]

The Wikimedia Foundation is currently running a consultation on the value and planning process of Wikimania, and is open until 18 January 2016. The goals are to (1) build a shared understanding of the value of Wikimania to help guide conference planning and evaluation, and (2) gather broad community input on what new form(s) Wikimania could take (starting in 2018).

After reviewing the consultation, we'd like to hear your feedback on on this survey.

In addition, feel free to share any personal experiences you have had at at a Wikimedia movement conference, including Wikimania. We plan to compile and share back outcomes from this consultation in February.

With thanks,

I JethroBT (WMF) (talk), from Community Resources 22:01, 12 January 2016 (UTC)Reply
