Welcome to the IEG Committee[edit]

Hi Hahc21,
Thanks for signing up to join the Individual Engagement Grants Committee! It is my pleasure to confirm your membership. We’ve got a lot to accomplish together, particularly during the next 6 weeks, and it will be awesome to have your help. Here is how to get started:

To make your membership official, please do 2 things by February 11th:

  1. Introduce yourself in the IdeaLab.
  2. Send your email address to IEGrants(_AT_)wikimedia.org, so that we can subscribe you to the committee mailing list.

Then there are 2 first tasks' for active committee members to start on right away:

  1. Review information in the Committee Workroom (your new organizing hub on meta), including responsibilities and the review process. Feedback and questions are very welcome at this stage.
  2. Start giving feedback on open ideas, drafts and proposals. Asking questions to gather information you’ll need to make a recommendation helps prospective grantees think their projects all the way through, and will give us more great proposals to choose from.

Our formal review of proposals starts February 22nd. I’ll be posting information about scoring and selection of proposals on the committee mailing list and in the Workroom soon, so please keep an eye there!

Thanks again for joining this new grantmaking program...I hope we’re going to see some amazing impact from these grants! :-) Siko (WMF) (talk) 06:19, 7 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can you do what you can -- while still making your code work -- to get this page out of Category:Deleteme? AS long as it is "asking" to be speedy deleted, it would be very easy to see someone deleting it... Courcelles 15:47, 3 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Harold, I really appreciated hearing all your thoughts and ideas in this first round of IEG. I know scoring and all the rest has been a heavy lift, but you made amazing contributions at every step. Thank you!! Siko (WMF) (talk) 22:00, 29 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Alternativa en español a The Signpost[edit]

Hola, Hahc21.

Wikivoyage logo final submission[edit]

Hi. :) We're getting ready to go into the first round of voting, and - as you can see here - there are currently multiple designs by you that will be voted on. This is perfectly fine if that's what you choose. There is some concern that variants of a single design may "split the vote", since people only have three choices, so that you could have more voters across your designs but less for any one and thus not be selected. If yours is one of the top three usable designs, there's an opportunity to submit variants to select the best after the first round of voting. I wanted to ask you, given that, if you'd like to narrow down your submission. If so, can you either please remove the others from Wikivoyage/Logo/2013/R1/Gallery or make a note at Talk:Wikivoyage/Logo/2013/R1/Gallery that you'd like them removed before, say, 2300 today (25 July)? The vote is supposed to start tomorrow.

Thank you for taking part in this. :) --Maggie Dennis (WMF) (talk) 11:56, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done! Cheers! — ΛΧΣ21 16:14, 25 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikimedia LGBT[edit]

I wonder if you might be interested in joining or supporting Wikimedia LGBT. (I saw your comment here.) Thanks. --Another Believer (talk) 22:03, 24 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any comment I made on that thread, Another Believer, but I definitely support Wikimedia LGBT. I only sign on to WikiProjects where I intend to write articles so I will pass on joining. But I'm happy to copyedit any articles that I come across, in a responsible way. Liz (talk) 03:59, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IEG[edit]

Hi, ΛΧΣ21,
I'm posting on your talk page because I saw you categorized yourself as part of the IEG process and I can't find anyone to ask this question. I'm looking for past grants that were successful but I can only find pages for grant projects that are currently under way. What about projects from previous grant cycles? Or are IEGs brand new?
Thanks for any assistance you can provide! Liz (talk) 01:46, 12 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Just found another page to cross-post this to but would still appreciate hearing from you. Thanks! Liz (talk) 19:32, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Liz: Sorry for not answering before. I was out of the city and without a computer available, but I'm back. Well, This is only the second round (IEGCom was created on February 2013), and the first round had some 7-8 grantees. I will get back to you later today with the list of past grantees. Cheers. — ΛΧΣ21 19:34, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Wow, ΛΧΣ, I had no idea that these grants were so new. It seemed like most of the current grants I looked at were technical in nature (involving programming). Is that a requirement or were those just the grant proposals that you received in the last round? I'd like to do some research on Wikipedia but I'm a qualitative researcher. I'm not sure if my ideas would be a good fit for this kind of grant.
By the way, I just noticed how involved you are all over Wikipedia-space, I don't know how you do it all! I guess it's time management, huh? ;-) Liz (talk) 04:07, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Liz Not all is about tools. We aso accept proposals for offline and online community engaging and research :) Now, about the grants, here is a list of the currently ongoing grants, which are the only ones we have approved by now. Cheers! — ΛΧΣ21 14:03, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your responsiveness, ΛΧΣ21. It's much appreciated! Liz (talk) 20:38, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

IEG[edit]

Some of the comments appear to be clear misunderstandings/misinterpretations of the information provided either on the project page or the talk page, is there a correct process where the proposer might seek to clarify what are obvious mistakes of analysis of the proposal as found in the summary provided on my talk page? sats (talk) 13:50, 14 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SatuSuro: I will take a look tonight. Sorry for the late reply. — ΛΧΣ21 13:40, 15 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No need to apologise, but 5 days later and still nothing, I would have thought at least a comment to respond what I have placed on the project talk page would be indicative as to how responsive the overall process is to any queries, or reasonable requests for dialogue with someone as to whether alternative funding outlines might help understand the flexibility at my end at least... sats (talk) 07:10, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
and also https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants_talk:IEG/Colours_of_Bangladesh#Aggregated_feedback_from_the_committee_for_Colours_of_Bangladesh suggests that at least one application has had the suggested alternative budget - I have had no such comment at the Rural engagement application... sats (talk) 07:13, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
SatuSuro: The comments on the template are a synthesis of what the committee memmbers said, but they don't represent our final decision by any means. They are just thoughts about your proposal. Now, I took a look at them and did not find anything that could be constructed as a "misunderstandings/misinterpretations of the information provided either on the project page or the talk page". Can you please clarify about this? — ΛΧΣ21 15:04, 19 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No problems - but in turn, due to other commitments might take a few days to do the reply. Thanks. sats (talk) 00:01, 20 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • When? June 2015
  • How can you help?
1.) Create or improve LGBT-related articles and showcase the results of your work here
2.) Upload photographs or other media related to LGBT culture and history, including pride events, and add images to relevant Wikipedia articles; feel free to create a subpage with a gallery of your images (see examples from last year)
3.) Contribute to an LGBT-related task force at another Wikimedia project (Wikidata, Wikimedia Commons, Wikivoyage, etc.)

One does not need to identify as LGBT or any other gender or sexual minority to participate. This campaign is about adding accurate, reliable information to Wikipedia, plain and simple, and all are welcome!

If you have any questions, please leave a message on the campaign's main talk page.

Thanks, and happy editing!

Global CSS/JS migration[edit]

Hello Hahc21. You have global scripts and styles in global.js and global.css, which you import using your local CSS/JS pages. Since August 2014, your global.js and global.css pages are loaded automatically on all wikis. Since you already import them yourself, you may experience script errors or tools being added twice. I can remove the global imports from your local pages using Synchbot (without touching other scripts). Do you want me to do that? —Pathoschild 23:00, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

Hi again! I haven't heard back from you, so I'll assume you don't want to do this. Feel free to add a Synchbot request or leave me a message if do want me to take care of it. :) —Pathoschild 16:45, 09 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You're invited to the Ally Skills Workshop at Wikimania![edit]

You were suggested as someone who might be interested in the Ally Skills Training Workshop at Wikimania! The workshop is designed to train Wikipedia admins to be more aware of sexism and is funded by an Inspire grant. The workshop will focus on teaching specific skills and techniques directly relevant to Wikipedia admins and editors, and in particular will teach people about the psychology of trolls. The workshop will be on Thursday July 16 from 2pm to 5pm in Don Diego 3.

If you are attending Wikimania, you are invited to apply to the Ally Skills Workshop! Space is limited and we may not be able to accept all applications, so apply now. More information, including a link to the application form, is here:

Ally Skills Workshop description and application form

People of all genders are welcome to attend. Unfortunately, travel scholarships for Wikimania are already closed and we don't know of any other sources of travel funding. If you know anyone else attending Wikimania who might be interested in attending this workshop, please encourage them to apply!

Thank you for your time,

How can we improve Wikimedia grants to support you better?[edit]

Hi! The Wikimedia Foundation would like your input on how we can reimagine Wikimedia Foundation grants to better support people and ideas in your Wikimedia project.

After reading the Reimagining WMF grants idea, we ask you to complete this survey to help us improve the idea and learn more about your experience. When you complete the survey, you can enter to win one of five Wikimedia globe sweatshirts!

In addition to taking the the survey, you are welcome to participate in these ways:

This survey is in English, but feedback on the discussion page is welcome in any language.

Inspire Campaign on content curation & review[edit]

I've recently launched an Inspire Campaign to encourage new ideas focusing on content review and curation in Wikimedia projects. Wikimedia volunteers collaboratively manage vast repositories of knowledge, and we’re looking for your ideas about how to manage that knowledge to make it more meaningful and accessible. We invite you to participate and submit ideas, so please get involved today! The campaign runs until March 28th.

All proposals are welcome - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is welcome - your skills and experience can help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign to improve review and curation tasks so that we can make our content more meaningful and accessible! I JethroBT (WMF) 05:39, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

(Opt-out Instructions) This message was sent by I JethroBT (WMF) (talk · contribs) through MediaWiki message delivery.

Through June, we’re organizing an Inspire Campaign to encourage and support new ideas focusing on addressing harassment toward Wikimedia contributors. The 2015 Harassment Survey has shown evidence that harassment in various forms - name calling, threats, discrimination, stalking, and impersonation, among others - is pervasive. Available methods and systems to deal with harassment are also considered to be ineffective. These behaviors are clearly harmful, and in addition, many individuals who experience or witness harassment participate less in Wikimedia projects or stop contributing entirely.

Proposals in any language are welcome during the campaign - research projects, technical solutions, community organizing and outreach initiatives, or something completely new! Funding is available from the Wikimedia Foundation for projects that need financial support. Constructive feedback on ideas is appreciated, and collaboration is encouraged - your skills and experience may help bring someone else’s project to life. Join us at the Inspire Campaign so that we can work together to develop ideas around this important and difficult issue. With thanks,

Over-qualified CSS selectors[edit]

My apologies that this message is just available in English.

Over-qualified CSS selectors of portals in Wikimedia skins have been changed. div#p-personal, div#p-navigation, div#p-interaction, div#p-tb, div#p-lang, div#p-namespaces or div#p-variants are now all removed of the div qualifier, as in for example it is #p-personal, #p-navigation …. This is so the skins can use HTML5 elements. Your gadgets or user styles seem to use them and you will have to update them. You can read more in phab:T252467. Queering Wikipedia 2023 conference[edit]

Wikimedia LGBT+ User Group and the organizing team of Queering Wikipedia is delivering the Queering Wikipedia 2023 Conference for LGBT+ Wikimedians and allies, as a hybrid, bilingual and trans-local event. It is online on 12, 14 and 17 May, the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia #IDAHOBIT, with offline events at around 10 locations on 5 continents in the 5-day span as QW2023 Nodes.

The online program is delivered as a series of keynotes, panels, presentations, workshops, lightning talks and creative interventions, starting on Friday noon (UTC) with the first keynote of Dr Nishant Shah entitled: I spy, with my little AI — Wikiway as a means to disrupt the ‘dirty queer’ impulses of emergent AI platforms. Second keynote is at Sunday’s closure by Esra’a Al Shafei, Wikimedia Foundation’s Board of Trustees vice chair, entitled: Digital Public Spaces for Queer Communities.

If you have been an active Wikimedian or enthusiast, supporting LGBT+ activities or if you identify as part of the larger LGBT+ community and allies in Wikimedia, please join us in advancing this thematic work. We encourage you to join online or in person with fellow Wikimedians if it is easy and safe to do so. Our working languages are English and Spanish, with possible local language support at sites of Nodes.

Registration for the online event is free and is open until Wednesday May 10th at 18:00 UTC, for safety protocol. Late event registration approval and event access denial is at the discretion of organizers.

More information, and registration details, may be found on Meta at QW2023
