My logo

I never meant to submit multiple logos, so I want to withdraw my submissions except for the flying plane variant. Globe-trotter (talk) 04:30, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Potential issues with logos using triple Vs / WV

Please take a look at the logo of the Dutch tourist information organization VVV: [1], which they use very prominently throughout the Netherlands. The whole idea for the logo, as well as the colour and fonts used by editors of most variations of this theme submitted, seems too similar for me to be able to fend off action from VVV should they decide to take some. And I believe this is even more obvious than in the case of WTO, plus VVV does something very similar to what WV does.

If there are any Wikilawyers reading, it would be good if they could take a look at this and say whether this would be a concern. PrinceGloria (talk) 06:25, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

Potential GE issue

Sorry, but I do not see any similarities between the two logos except for the circle. And when a circle is a problem then we will have a BIG problem. ;-)

I see for example a vague similarity between the following submission and the VLC icon for IOS. But is it true or is it only in my head?

I think that the perceived similarity with the VLC icon is in your head - the latter is plainly a traffic cone. :) I think the original logo resemblance (between the ribbon W and GE) does have some merit, but I'm not sure it's enough to stop the logo from being used. --Nick ^talk 12:22, 25 July 2013 (UTC)

I don't think the WMF will hold you liable if it turns out that they are too similar. But an official statement by Maggie Dennis would be great. You aren't a lawyer and submitted your logo in good faith. It's the job the WMF lawyers, in my opinion, to sort this potential issue out. -- Rillke (talk) 18:50, 28 July 2013 (UTC)

Yes, I believe that is true. If the logo is too similar, the WMF lawyers should identify that if it is selected, and I do not believe personally this would cause any trouble for you. Withdrawal of logos

I withdraw logo option 35 kite and option 36 shoemark (68, 69 and 70 above) as both can not be turned into computerised versions. Description of "Geographical zones" logos

Hi, I wrote a description when I presented my logos. It was: I thought about the geographical zones that divide the Earth and I associated them with the colour of the Wikimedia logo: blue (that is a cool colour) stand for the frigid zones, green (that recall the forests, or the nature) represent the temperate zones, and red (a warm colour) is the torrid zone. In order to give the idea of traveling around the world i added some arrows. Maybe it's too long, but could someone write it in the gallery? --Mystère Martin (talk) 10:19, 26 July 2013 (UTC)

Oh, I see, I think--each logo has an info page linked to by the "i" icon at right bellow each logo and its votes are recorded at the bottom of that page. Is a running tally being published somewhere showing which logos are winning? --Rogerhc (talk) 06:10, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

Unfortunately not. Too much computing power is needed for that as the voting-system is extremely complicated. Tomorrow, I will do a test run of the counting script and may decide to publish this but I think I will not to avoid that users change their votes en masse. -- Rillke (talk) 09:38, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

@Rogerhc, it's not that hard to find who's winning. I've looked at the vote tallies for all of the submissions that garnered interest in the submission round (as the preferences of commenters there should be similar to voters here) and here are some of the best-looking: (#s as of 11:40 am EST, July 31)

1. Arrows - 135.
2. Plane(t) - 80
3. Walker on the Globe - 70
4. Fantasy Balloon - 60

I don't think there are any others close to this level (Edit: There are, see AleXxw's comment), so it looks like these are some of the most solid entries. Hope this helped, Nick1372 (talk) 15:50, 31 July 2013 (UTC) (Edited)

A simple vote count is worth nothing, Weighting could completely change the picture, and at this stage the only way to check weighting is to check every vote for eligibility, which is going to be a big job if not automated. Inspecting the page history does not help, as eligibility is listed for the combined A&B group, not the A group. For example, if no-one who qualifies for a vote through Wikivoyage has voted for Arrows, the total count for it is zero. There is also no indication of whether any given vote is a first, second or third choice, which also has a big effect on the final count. · · · Peter (Southwood) ^(talk): 16:08, 31 July 2013 (UTC)

I'm not sure how I missed those. :/ Anyway, I'm not totally convinced that either the weighting or the first/second/third will change the votes as drastically as people think. Also, I didn't mean that the current vote count was a precise estimate, (I honestly don't know why I said that about the finalists, I must have been out of it) just that it gave a general idea of the feelings of the users, which could have a correlation with the end game. Weighting

How will the weighting towards WikiVoyage contributers be carried out? Will those of us who have only recently started following the project have our votes discounted, or just have less voting power?Optimist on the run (talk) 11:30, 30 July 2013 (UTC)

1. Logo selection procedure:
   except that if any submission has more than 50% of votes from Group B, the votes from Group B will be adjusted to equal the votes from Group A. This will eliminate from running any submissions that have no votes at any choice level from the Group A which is directly effected by the decision. If members of Group A have chosen these submissions as second or third choice, they will be retained for consideration until the runoff system is complete.
2. Wikivoyage/Logo 2013:
   Wikivoyage contributors include anyone who has made 50 mainspace edits to Wikivoyage prior to May 31, 2013.
