Account name conflict[edit]

I recently received your message on Commons about conflicted account name. I, Sameboat registered a protective puppet account 同舟人誓相隨 on Commons because the same account name (同舟人誓相隨) was used on Chinese and English Wikipedias for vandalism by someone else and the name is very similar to my main account name "Sameboat" in Chinese (In English Wikipedia, the original user intentionally did so in an attempt to harass/irritate me). Both "同舟人誓相隨" accounts on both Wikipedias have already been blocked indefinitely. I really want those accounts be deleted and allow me to register a global protective puppet account with the original name (同舟人誓相隨) unchanged. Thank you. -- Sameboat (talk) 01:15, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Sameboat: hi there, that was good thinking on your part. Stewards may be able to help you out, you can file a request at SRUC to see if something can be done to protect your doppleganger. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:35, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

My username change[edit]

Hi,

I just saw a message you left me. I would prefer to keep my current name. My most used accounts are sr:Корисник:Loshmi, en:User:Lošmi, Commons:User:Lošmi and ja:利用者:Loshmi. Do I clash with my own usernames? So, if I need to unify them I would like to keep the name Loshmi. --Lošmi (talk) 04:36, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. I just saw that you renamed all my accounts to Lošmi. Please, revert everything to Loshmi. --Lošmi (talk) 04:38, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Lošmi: first let me assure you that none of your accounts have been renamed by me. The ones you list still are under those names. It looks like you have attached all the accounts under that name that you own, and none of your accounts will be renamed. After finalization is complete, stewards will have a tool to allow them to merge both of your accounts into the the one "Loshmi" name if you would like. Just wait a month or two and request here on meta once the tool is being used. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:39, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rename[edit]

This Morning I got a message sent to me informing me my user name would be renamed, as I have many acounts of the same name I thought perhaps I should merge them, When I went to merge them I accidently merged with an account on the Portuguese wikipedia, long story short how can I keep my username and unmerge this Portuguese account that doesn't belong to me? Regards Beaver (talk) 08:55, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Beaver: your account will definitely be renamed because the portuguese account owns the global account which you can't take over. You have to choose a new name. --IW 11:53, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is absolutely ridiculous I have had this user name since 2007 on English wikipedia on commons and on here, the person who has gotten hold of the global account has had the user name since 2011, what is the selection criteria for the person who gets the global account, can you please also direct me to where I can lodge a formal dispute? Beaver (talk) 09:45, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

can I please get a responce Beaver (talk) 10:32, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Beaver: you can read the criteria here. If you would like to appeal, you can ask for usurpation and it will be decided by community members by community practice. Going forward there can only be one account for each username, which unfortunately means some users have to be renamed. You are free to pick a new name of your own choosing, provided it's available, if your appeal is not successful. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 03:42, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agnus~lawiki[edit]

@ Keegan, my normal international username is "Ulamm". For the Latin Wikipedia I'd prefer "Agnus ullus". If this is not possible, call me "Ulamm", like everywhere.

Same person[edit]

Resolved. but 7 accounts to merge still

These two people are the same etc. You can just merge them, no need for a rename.

@Francis Tyers:. You have to carry out the merge yourself as you will need to enter your password. Please go to Special:MergeAccount and follow the instructions there. QuiteUnusual (talk) 15:08, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

--Vriullop (talk) 16:14, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Account renamed??? WTFF I am BEETHOVEN...[edit]

I just recieved a message in my Wikipedias, Wikimedia, Wicktionay pages... that my accouny name is going to be renamed.... this makes NO sense at all. Why is this? Is someone trying to steal my account? I hope it's an error.

I joined Wikipedia in 2005 when I was 12 years old, and since then I hava actively contirbuted in the Spanish and Catalan version of it, both Wicktionary languages and Wikimedia. I have accounts in other languages that I have not used so much. I even made a candidature 7 years ago to join the Administrators team in the Spanish Wikipedia, where I gained a considerable popularity at that team because of my conntributions and being so "young"

Now I'm not as actively contributing as I used to be, but I a have always been Beethoven, and everyone knows me as this. The Administrators of Spanish and Catalan wikipedia know me as this name. Who's trying to steal my name and Why? this makes no sense

Wikipedia accounts:
- Spanish: Beethoven
- Catalan: Beethoven
- German: Beethoven

Wikiquotes account:
- Catalan: Beethoven

Wicktionary account:
- Spanish Beethoven

Wikimedia account:
Beethoven

--Beethoven 19:03, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

All account names have to be unique. Unfortunately, you're not the only person to have chosen that particular name amongst all users of Wikimedia wikis, and another user "won" the account name (see Special:CentralAuth/Beethoven). Your only option is to request a new account name, however it doesn't have to be very different from your current one. - Kaare (talk) 20:00, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but I joined wikipedia in 2005. I have been using Beethoven in all plattforms for 10 years, I have contributed in hundreds of articles, my images in Wikimedia Commons can bee seen in lots of articles, I have realitonship with lots of users and Wikipedia Administrators... what you mean with someone "WON" my name? A guy that created an account 4 years ago has a right in MY account created 10 years ago? and what you mean with WON?? My name was in a lottery or what? THIS IS RIDICOLOUS.

THIS MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL AND THIS IS NOT WHAT WIKIPEDIA REPRESENTS AND IS SUPPOSED TO BE

I'm gonna try to solve this properly, who I have to talk to? I'm not going to accept any change in my user name.

If I don't recieve properly response I'm gonna have to take legal actions. --Beethoven 00:01, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

My case explained in Spanish: https://es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usuario_discusi%C3%B3n:Beethoven#Mi_cuenta_NO_ser.C3.A1_renombrada

If it's necessary I'm going to translate in English my case, because I don't want and can't accept this things happening in Wikipedia. It's a discriminatory act against my user rights, and Wikipedia SHOULD NOT let this to happen --Beethoven 15:36, 19 March 2015 (UTC)

Hi Beethoven, I see your frustration, and I completely understand that you’re upset over this. I hear you in that you think something is wrong or that you're feeling unfairly treated because you've had your username for a long time.
Creating only global usernames has been on the communities’ and WMF’s to-do list for about 10 years - 2.8 million usernames clash with another person’s username on another wiki project, so this is a massive undertaking. The unfortunate fact is that many accounts need to be renamed, in order to allow for the creation of features that tie in all projects and allow users to contribute across all projects with a single identity. Many factors decide which user will get to keep the name if many others have that name on other wikis: amount of activity, volunteer access, or other factors. We (the WMF and volunteers driving this project) are doing our best to make this happen in a way that is structured, manageable, and as simple and fair as possible. There are “edge cases”, and everyone is trying to account for that.
The Stewards are working with users on a case-by-case basis in situations like yours, where there are concerns about the algorithm that determines which user gets a particular username. Though I cannot make promises on their behalf, they might be able to help you in an agreement on who gets the name, or help you to find a username that you like, but might not be able to do so if being threatened with legal action. You are welcome to reach out to them here, if you have not done so already. This is a complex issue and we’re trying to approach problems like yours with understanding, empathy and sense of collaboration - again, it’s understandably stressful, so please do reach out to them. --Rdicerb (WMF) (talk) 06:49, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Commented in his talk page on eswiki, posted a request at SRUC. --Vriullop (talk) 20:10, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your response Rdicerb (WMF), couldn't read it until now because all my case explanations are spread in many different Wiki pages and I sometimes forget to check them all to see if someone has already answered me. As Vriullop said, he contacted to my Wiki page explaining me what you just said and I already did my Steward petition so it can be studien case-by-case. Thank you very much for your response because all I was asking is a way that someone (human, no robot) could check my case to study it and where I can express my reasons about why in my case the "auomatic global account designation system" I consider that had been unfair. After having sponken via disccusion and IRC with others Stewards and various Administrators (I prefer to not give names) nobody answered me like you, they just said there was no way I could protest or contest/challenge the decision made by the "atomatic system" and that I was losing my time and being literally a "shameful person". I was just asking for this, a place where I can explain myself properly to someone, so thanks for answering me the right way. Sorry if in previous messages I sounded a bit arrogant/mad, but I was a little angry with the behaviour of some Admins to me, and I had the feeling that nobody of them really wanted to help me at all in a thing that in my opinion is very important and attached to personal fellings (10th years old username) and realated with user rights and Wikipedia values.
-- Beethoven 03:23, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

I'm sorry but I don't consider my case to be solved at all... I have explained my situation and I have given all possible facts about why the automated system had been unfair in my case here SRUC#Beethoven@global. But Stewards can't do anything to help me because they are tied by the rules. So that's why I would like help from WMF people, I'm sure someone there will understand my situation and will try to help me out. Thanks --Beethoven 16:23, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

Renaming is crap[edit]

Resolved.

This renaming is crap. Why can't you just have multiple users with the same names on different wikis? Have you considered the legal consequences of diluting users' brands by forcing them to give their names to someone else? And besides, I've had my name since 2005 on en.wikipedia. Is there really another "Nowa" who predates me?--24.190.52.188 23:07, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. You own "Nowa" and do not have to have it renamed, you just need to attach it so that it doesn't get renamed. Log in to the English Wikipedia and go here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MergeAccount] Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:05, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I merged the one that was mine. Will the others go away?--65.51.43.2 12:19, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, the unattached accounts will go away when the "big rename" happens. - Kaare (talk) 17:54, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming "Frotz"[edit]

Resolved.

I just noticed that my username at wikibooks.org would be changed. Looking at https://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ACentralAuth&target=frotz I see three accounts attached and one not. The three attached ones, en.wikipedia.org, www.mediawiki.org, and en.wikibooks.org are mine. I don't know who has the one at de.wikipedia.org. 98.203.135.100 23:16, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

List of affected accounts[edit]

Resolved.

Hi! Is there a list of local accounts that were notified about a pending SUL rename? I'd like to look into how many users were affected by the redirect-following issue. —Pathoschild 23:54, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Hey there. Every wiki has Special:UsersWhoWillBeRenamed with local affected users. Ricordisamoa put together a quarry script to look for it, it's just proof of concept though: here it is. Anything you can do to help to let them know to ignore the message would be appreciated, otherwise I likely won't be able to get to it until tomorrow or so. :) Keegan (WMF) (talk) 00:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I have a proof of concept at User:Pathoschild/2015 sul rename confusion. I'll verify the list tomorrow, then I'll expand it to cover all wikis. —Pathoschild 06:56, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Please help me sort this out[edit]

Resolved.

Dear Keegan,

In Latin Wikipedia, you left me a message about globalizing my account name - I have an account as Eebahgum in Latin Wikipedia and am also Eebahgum in English Wikipedia. You now propose to change the name of my Latin account to something different because the name exists already in the English. Hence I have already streamlined myself, and noticing that they are two accounts you now propose to multiply and diversify the account names. Surely that defeats your own intentions? I am perfectly happy for the two accounts to be merged but I do not wish to change my online identity. Please advise. Eebahgum (talk) 00:40, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there. You just need to visit Special:MergeAccount and tie them together and nothing will be renamed. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:00, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Keegan, no problems. Eebahgum (talk) 02:18, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

New request[edit]

Resolved.

There is a not active user, who gets the name Richardkw. Look at my edits at commons, almost 5.000 . My username is not gonna be renamed. The other person: projects: 0, 0, 0 , 2, 0 ,0 edits.. An user on Wikibooks (no edits) and crap like that. I have this name for many years, don't ever dare to change it ! That's crazy. And my username on Wikipedia is blocked, so I cannot change my name if you guys don't act normal. (I'M NOT BLOCKED AT COMMONS WITH RICHARDKW) I now use Richardkiwi, because 'Richardkw' is blocked and is my username on Commons for years. See my message above. It's crazy if a user that does only have 5 edits in total (most project 0 (zero edits), gets my username and I have to deal with Richardkw-Nlwiki (or something). Because Richardkw is blocked infinite, I can't even change my name. So please change the other name from someone who is not active. Please think before you do something. Kind regards, - Richardkiwi (talk) 01:12, 19 March 2015 (UTC) (alias Richardkw on Wikimedia Commons) p.s. LOOK AT THIS: (en.wikipedia is mine too, but forgot password) Here you can see that I have all the edits and the other one (almost) nothing[reply]

And at Commons I'm active, I am not blocked there. All my voluntary work will stop if my name gets changed (in april?) and I did a lot for Wikimedia the last 8 years (also under my old name) - Richardkiwi (talk) 01:16, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Richardkiwi: even though your nl.wiki account is blocked, you're still the global account holder. You need to visit https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MergeAccount to attach your Commons account to the global one. Once you do that, your commons account will not be renamed. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 02:01, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Also, you own the global Richardkw as well. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 02:02, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, sorry, I was agitated.. I didn't know it was me, with all that accounts. But I don't know my passwords anymore. How do I take care of that? I tried a few, I know 50 (without looking anywhere) passwords on the internet, but passwords I used only 2 times or so, I do not remember. It is for sure that under Richardkiwi and Richardkw I have an account on the en.wikipedia and for Richardkw under the dutch (my home-Wikipedia), where I use Richardkiwi. I will try again, but the en.wikipedia passwords I think I don't can 'merge' that. Is there an other solution? Thanks. - Richardkiwi (talk) 11:21, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Password for nlwiki is found for Richardkw, but for Richardkiwi and Richardkw at the en.wikipedia, I have no idea, it's years ago I think? I will look later what edits I made and when it was, maybe then I remember a password, I hope so. - Richardkw (talk) 11:36, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Sri for my many edits, but I understand it now I think. My commons-account will not be changed because I merged it now. So only if I do not find the en.wikipedia passwords, that accounts will get renamed? Then it is no problem. Excuses for the many messages :-) - K.R. - Richardkw (talk) 11:51, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Richardkw has no edits on en.wikipedia, so can this account (I know for sure that I made it) be merged without a password? I once made it, but I only edited en.wikipedia with Richardkiwi - Richardkw (talk) 11:58, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It can be merged by stewards once this is all over and they have the global user merge tool. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 04:03, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Poorly handled[edit]

Resolved.

Hi. This whole username issue has been poorly handled. It's not clear to me what is going on and there doesn’t even appear to be an automated system to deal with it. I already have the same name on Wikipedia. Will this be reverted, too? Or will they be merged? And how do I do that? Sorry for posting yet another question that has probably already been answered, but I can't say I have much sympathy, as this whole thing, if legit, has been poorly thought through.

PS. I now can’t even post this from my account because apparently this is a different site again. My username on Wikipedia and Wikimedia is soupisgoodfood. If I can’t keep this username, then please just delete all my accounts, as I don’t have the patients to deal with it.

Hi there. Yeah, the problem with not being able to post here with your account because it is a different site is exactly what single-user login finalization will resolve. You'll automatically have an account here. All you have to do is log in to the English Wikipedia and go here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MergeAccount
Once done, you're set with your username here until the slow heat death of the sun. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:43, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge two users[edit]

Resolved.

I have two users, Phelix and Phelixz, both were active during 2009 on the Spanish Wikipedia, but since August 2009 I've only used Phelixz. I would like first to attach both users (both have the same password and email account linked), and then if possible I would like to merge them, what should I do?

@Phelixz: to attach the accounts to each other related account (not each other, all the Phelixz accounts and all the Phelix accounts), log in with each account on the Spanish Wikipedia and go to: https//es.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:MergeAccount
At this time your two accounts cannot be merged, but after SUL finalization stewards will have a tool to merge user accounts. Just keep using the one Phelixz account and you are fine. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 07:49, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rename Vici to "Vici~itwiki"[edit]

Resolved.

I received the following message:

...Sfortunatamente, un'altra persona usa il tuo nome utente, "Vici", altrove. Per essere sicuri che in futuro entrambi possiate contribuire senza problemi ai nostri progetti, il tuo nome utente sarà cambiato in "Vici~itwiki"....

Actually I renamed Vici to ViciDG years ago. So (it) Vici is blocked and I use correctly ViciDG. I hope it will be possible continue this way. (no matter what happens to "old" user name Vici). Tanks --ViciDig (talk) 10:59, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@ViciDig: Okay, great, your ViciDG account is not going to be renamed, the notice was about the old account. If you don't care what happens to it, you can just ignore the message. Thanks! Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:20, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge Users[edit]

Resolved.

Hi,

I received a renaming message on both my "Poloch" account on fr.wiktionary.org and fr.wikisource.org. If I go to https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:MergeAccount it actually says that the fr.wikisource.org has been merged with my other account, which is good. fr.wiktionary.org has not been merged though, likely because it seems I used a different password there. There seems to be another "Poloch" on de.wikipedia.org, and I don't think that's me, because my German is really bad, so I doubt I ever created an account there. And I can't seem to find a list of modifications this user ever did, so that I could verify if this is me or not. Thus I can't use the "Finish merge" button because it appears it would merge both account, and don't propose any fine merge tuning.

Could you tell me how I can acces a list of modifications from the "Poloch" on de.wikipedia.org? And if this is not me, how can I selectively merge only the "Poloch" from fr.wiktionary.org? If I were to change its password to the same as the other accounts, would it be automatically merged, or is it too late? Thanks!

Poloch (talk) 11:47, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Poloch: You've successfully merged the accounts you likely own[1]. The account on the German Wikipedia is blocked indefinitely for being an offensive username, so you don't even need to worry about that account. You seem to be all set, none of your accounts will be renamed. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:22, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Changing user name[edit]

Resolved.

Hi, I received a message from you about the renaming of my username "Gianni Garuti" into "Gianni Garuti~itwiki". Althoutgh my user name has been changed into "GiaGar" few years ago. Furthermore, "Gianni Garuti" in en.wiki, de.wiki, es.wiki and common it's always my user name in other projects... The best solution for me should be using "GiaGar" in all projects. Thanks. --GiaGar (talk) 15:13, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@GiaGar: The message was about your old usernames, you're just fine with the account you have now. You can disregard the message. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:25, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming Message[edit]

Resolved.

Dear Keegan, I received the message that my user name "Narrenschiff" will be renamed to "Narrenschiff~jawiki", but my user name is "AprilFool", not "Narrenschiff". Would I continue using "AprilFool" to my account? Thank you. --AprilFool (talk) 15:31, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@AprilFool: you are keeping this username, no worries. You will not be renamed. Continue on as AprilFool. Thanks. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:23, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Change of username[edit]

Resolved.

Hi.

I receive a message from you saying that you are renaming my account in Commons. I do not understand why. I have had the "Barcex" name on all wikis since 2004 and have not seen any other user with such a username. I consider that I am the real and only "User:Barcex" in Wikimedia so my account does not have to be renamed, it cannot clash with anyone than myself. Just check my Global Account info.

Barcex (talk) 15:51, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Barcex:: probablemente se trate de un error del robot que dejó el mensaje en nombre de Keegan. Tu cuenta es global y no será renombrada. Un saludo. -- M\A 16:06, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming problem: I was renamed in 2008 under SUL[edit]

Resolved.

In 2008 I request the unified name (SUL) "Eloy", and was given to me. In order to do that I rename my Spanish Wikipedia user (Eloy SL), to accomodate it to the others projects username (Eloy). The user Eloy_SL which you say I have conflict, it's just my old username.

Please, do not rename my account;
thanks,
Eloy (talk) 16:14, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Eloy: the message was relating to your old account, your account that you have now will not be renamed. Sorry for the confusion! Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:27, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I'm already unified[edit]

Resolved.

Why am I getting a message threatening to arbitrarily rename me? - BalthCat (talk) 16:28, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@BalthCat: the message might have been relating to what might have been your old name, Balthcat. Either way, you can disregard the message if you don't care about what happens to the Balthcat account. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:33, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would rather it remain unavailable to others, as most sites aren't case sensitive and it may cause confusion if others register it because it becomes available as a result of being renamed balthcat~whateverproj. -BalthCat (talk) 13:10, 22 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Rename Li2a because of another user[edit]

Resolved.

Dear Keegan, I received a message from you on my talk page saying that I'll have to change my username because it is used by another person. The fact is that "another" person is alway me. I use in internet "Li2a" from 2004, when I had registrated my website li2a.com, and here in wikipedia a bit later.

Global account information

A great number of photos, articles in internet, espesialy in russian language are always mine. Here in wikipedia I was registraded initialy in russian segment, and after in italian. To loose this name in wiki, which is so important for me would be a kind of loosing my personality. I'll be glad if you could check how can I keep my old Li2a name.

Thank you. Li2a (talk) 17:02, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Li2a: Hi there, it looks like your accounts were all unified by logging in, except the English Wikipedia one. If this is yours you can visit Special:MergeAccount. If not, don't worry about it and your accounts will not be renamed. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 20:50, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Babel AutoCreate[edit]

Resolved.

Special:CentralAuth/Babel AutoCreate is an account defined at MediaWiki:Babel-autocreate-user for mw:Extension:Babel. Renaming it means to split history of contributions as it will continue working with the same user name. Maybe there are other user accounts defined in system messages. I commented it in the mailing list, but I understand these days it is flooded. --Vriullop (talk) 18:56, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I manually merged the account. Legoktm (talk) 20:15, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Account renaming[edit]

Resolved.

Dear Keegan, I had messages regarding renaming of account etc. The reasons were that my present account is similair to other accounts with similair name, but the thing is, those accounts are mine as well, and the best solution for me would be if those accounts could be merged, so also the created articles and their edit history would be merged?

The global account I use now, and want to use in the future, why I dont want it to be changed, is this: User:Dan Koehl, which I use on all language versions and sister projects. Older accounts, which I dont use, but still have active passwords, and log in to, and have redirected to User:Dan Koehl (So if you clik on them, you will be redirected) is:

I hope this all dont sounds too complicated. Since those accounts are older, with older edits, I would actually be happy if they could be merged into my newer account, so creation of articles and edit histories would be jointed into the new account.

Is all this possible? Can I do anything to help? And can I keep my new account User:Dan Koehl without having it changed?

Dan Koehl (talk) 19:22, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Dan Koehl: first, make sure all of your old accounts are attached to their global one. You said you still have the passwords, so just log in with each on their respective wiki and visit Special:MergeAccount there. This will keep each name together and keep even more usernames from being created :)
After that, you'll just need to wait a couple of months until SUL is finalized. At that point the stewards will have a tool to merge your different accounts in to the one main account. I hope that helps. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:11, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done, thank you!Dan Koehl (talk) 22:48, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Yet another renaming topic[edit]

Resolved.

I, too, have received a message about an impending name change on commons. However, I have not received the same message on other wikis, and my Commons account has been unified with my other accounts (also named Plrk) since 2008, as can be seen at the Global information account page. So what can I do to stop this name change?

Regards, Plrk (talk) 20:03, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Plrk: you can disregard the message, sorry for the trouble. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:07, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Your notification[edit]

Hello. I've received your notification, could you tell me please which account I don't have uses my username (Avocato)? I own every account named "Avocato" in every Wikimedia project; that's why I don't want to be renamed. Regards.--Avocato (talk) 20:50, 19 March 2015 (UTC) [reply]

@Avocato: you're fine, you won't be renamed. I think it's because you had a previous username. No worries, sorry about that. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 21:06, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

More global renamer[edit]

Resolved.

Hi, thanks for your ... thank you. They change my italian translation anyway, always changing translations here on meta.

Listen, I was interested on the topic because in the last two months I have been making analysis of cross-wiki activities for some preliminary models and I've realized that many users weren't SUL. i have to say: there was IMHO some confusion, e.g. messages left in local talks which were ignored or simply not fully understood... I tried to share what I knew.

I have also suggested to some trusted, experienced local bureocrats speaking "rare" languages to apply for the global renamer flags here on meta... just two or three so far, but I can contact more. Do you think I should continue? I was focusing mainly on specific language knowledge but if you think more G.R. may be needed in the future, there are other candidates with "usual" en/it/fr/de/es knowledge I can contact.--Alexmar983 (talk) 22:05, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Alexmar983: that is completely up to you if you would like to do it. Thanks for running it by me. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:09, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Keegan, I am a bit confused by your message. My commons usersame is "Theredmonkey" and I am using "Trm" just as my signature. So do I have to be worried about User:Theredmonkey being renamed on any wiki? o_O Cheers --trm 23:01, 19 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Theredmonkey: no, you will not be renamed. The script was following a redirect to your user talk page. Sorry for the confusion. Keegan (WMF) (talk) 01:02, 20 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
