[edit]SUL finalization
[edit]If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.
How to add an entry here

Making a request for your own account
[edit]For changing your username on one wiki:
Please include the following information in your request:
- the old username,
- the new username,
- please sign
~~~~request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).
If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available.
You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.
Private requests
[edit]Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.
Simple rename requests
[edit]If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:
- Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
- Submit the request below in this section.
Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.
Dread Yamada
[edit]- Wiki: meta.wikimedia.org (stewardry • list 'crats)
- Old Username: ドレッド山田 (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • CentralAuth • GlobalRenameUser)
- New Username: Dread Yamada (talk • edits • logs • cross-wiki-contribs • userpages • similar names • UV • CentralAuth)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: Until now, we have been active only in Japan, but since we will be operating under an English name from now on, it is necessary to register the English notation.
- ドレッド山田: What do you mean when you say "we"? How many people operate this account, and do you have any other accounts? – DreamRimmer ■ 15:52, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- The person currently operating the account is the individual themselves, but we plan to have a two-person management system with managers for editing. Currently, the account is operated by only one person. We do not own any other accounts. I’m thinking of having the managers register as new editors and make it a collaborative editing setup. ~2025-31051-83 (talk) 07:53, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- @DreamRimmer ~2025-31051-83 (talk) 07:54, 5 November 2025 (UTC)
- Thank you for the clarification. Please note that each account must belong to and be used by only one person. Shared or jointly managed accounts are not allowed. If others wish to edit, they should each create and use their own accounts. Collaboration can still happen through normal editing, talk pages, and project coordination, but account sharing is strictly prohibited. Also, closely coordinated editing by multiple users with the same agenda can raise concerns about meatpuppetry, so it is important for everyone to edit independently and transparently. As long as this account is used by a single individual, there is no issue with proceeding with your requested rename. Please confirm that you understand this. – DreamRimmer ■ 10:05, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- @DreamRimmer
- Thank you for the detailed explanation.
- I understand the above.
- This account will be created and edited solely by me. ~2025-31051-83 (talk) 16:25, 6 November 2025 (UTC)
- Please confirm while you are logged in to the ドレッド山田 account. – DreamRimmer ■ 04:01, 7 November 2025 (UTC)
- Previous renames: current user, target user. Queue: open req, closed req
- Stewards/Global renamers: usurp user, rename user
- Reason: I want to use this name so that it’s easy to remember.
- You changed your username just four days ago, so why do you think your request should be granted? As per standard procedure, you are expected to use your current username for at least the next six months. – DreamRimmer ■ 09:26, 10 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Sophia Retired: We also received a request for a vanish by your account "Sophia Retired". Do you want to permanently vanish the account (this means that your account will be locked and can never be used again)? I don't understand why you made some request for renames and at the same time a request for a vanish. I'm also asking why you made a second request for rename? Did you regret the first one? Did you request for a wrong username? Thanks! Superpes15 (talk) 10:46, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Superpes15: I would like to have this account globally deleted. Previously, I served as a rollbacker, reviewer, and was active in patrolling on Indonesian Wikipedia and across other Wikimedia projects. In this account, I once included my real identity, which led to harassment from vandals. For that reason, I decided to rename this account, delete it, and create a new one without revealing my personal identity. - @Sophia Guevara: If you want, we could try to hide as much as possible, so you don't lose the contributions. We can give it a try. Let us know! Thanks :) Superpes15 (talk) 12:00, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
- Just so you know, account deletion is not possible because all contributions must be licensed under the CC BY-SA 4.0 License and the GFDL. If by deletion you mean vanishing, please note that courtesy vanishing is only for users who wish to leave Wikimedia projects permanently. Since you plan to continue editing, the best option is to rename this account to a random username and then stop using it. After that, you can create a new account for a clean start, as long as you are in good standing on the projects where you contribute. Another option is to contact your project’s oversight team and request suppression of any edits where you may have shared private information. If your project does not have an oversighter, you can contact the stewards instead. This way, you can continue contributing with this account. – DreamRimmer ■ 17:05, 11 November 2025 (UTC)
Not done Well, this was closed by Masti, by accepting vanish request, for more see Special:GlobalRenameQueue/request/159433 🪶-TΛNBIRUZZΛMΛN (💬) 12:41, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- A vanish request should not have been approved when the user clearly intended to continue editing with another account. Vanishing is only meant for users who wish to leave Wikimedia projects permanently, so I would recommend reversing it in this case. I am sorry to say this, but approving it under these circumstances shows very poor judgement. – DreamRimmer ■ 13:24, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- Absolutely! If something isn’t meant to be seen publicly, it’s better to have oversight in place. Account vanishing doesn’t really hide anything, does it? pinging @Masti 🪶-TΛNBIRUZZΛMΛN (💬) 13:33, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- Also, request in queue was set as "hold on", I don't understand why it was approved or there was some private correspondence.
- @DreamRimmer: As for leaving projects permanently, being this a "courtesy" procedure, I think we can make an exception for a user who has contributed extensively and fears their private data will be disclosed, don't you think? Ultimately, renaming a username to something completely anonymous and abandoning it doesn't make much difference respect to a courtesy vanish, at least in this case (and it exposes the account to the risk of being compromised in future). There are many other vanished accounts which opened another account after some time. Btw In my humble opinion, in the first instance, a "more private" renaming could have been attempted as done in the past (and, if I remember properly, without any consequences)! Superpes15 (talk) 13:43, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think it will make much difference, but if you feel it is the right thing to do for them, I respect that and have no objection. – DreamRimmer ■ 14:01, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- Yep, we can discuss it later! Btw the vanish was approved without waiting for the discussion... let's wait for further details on this, it likely was a mistake! Superpes15 (talk) 14:57, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- It's not the first time I've seen them approving requests on hold without making any attempt to check on the status. I've pinged them on their talk page asking for an explanation. Leaderboard (talk) 15:25, 13 November 2025 (UTC)
- It may happen not to see notes, if I'm not mistaken there were some problems viewing notes on mobile devices some time ago (I think they've been fixed though), of course, we should always take another look, just to be sure... Superpes15 (talk) 09:43, 14 November 2025 (UTC)
- Reason: Privacy reasons. Shorter name.
Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications
[edit]Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure and consensus, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least two weeks before usurpation.
We are sorry to announce that Global User Account Merges are not possible as the UserMerge extension is incompatible with CentralAuth. As such, we will not accept any request to merge user accounts as it is technically impossible at this moment to do so. |
@Hide on Rosé, NguoiDungKhongDinhDanh Bạn là BQV ở đây nên việc đổi tên sẽ làm các thành viên tiếng Việt rất khó nhận ra bạn. Bạn là global rollbacker và global renamer, hoạt động ở nhiều dự án nên việc đổi tên sẽ gây gián đoạn rất lớn. Cả 2 tên đều là tên giả nên chúng chẳng khác nhau mấy nhưng bạn có thể cân nhắc làm cho chữ ký trở nên đơn giản hơn. Bên lề: Liên kết cho thấy bạn đang "diễn", các cuộc thảo luận được "đạo diễn" nên chúng không đáng tin cậy mấy. --Henrydat (talk) 16:13, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- @Henrydat: Hide on Rosé is a user in good standing, so you can politely ask them not to change their username, but you have no right to oppose their decision if they choose to do so. – DreamRimmer ■ 16:25, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- Global renaming isn’t a support/oppose thing, and this request WILL be processed after the standard waiting time for usurpation, as it doesn’t violate any clause of the policy. Dragoniez (talk) 17:45, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
- I know. This is just the personal matter. Maybe I should write on user talk page instead of here. I withdraw my request. I think I write it in Vietnamese so no one read it. --Henrydat (talk) 18:11, 4 November 2025 (UTC)
But if you want to keep your contributions of "Masonofsyria" account and want to use the username "Jamalsaman", you can request for usurpation, by doing so the current "Jamalsaman" account will be renamed to a generic username like "Jamalsaman (usurped)", and "Masonofsyria" account will claim the username.
