Instructions

SUL finalization

[edit]

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

How to add an entry here

[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

Example

For global rename requests:

=== Example ===
{{SRUC
|status     = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain     = global
|Oldname    = Example
|Newname    = Foo
|reason     = your remarks here
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own account

[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available.

You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests

[edit]

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requests

[edit]

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications

[edit]

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure and consensus, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least two weeks before usurpation.

Mignon~enwiki

[edit]
@Mignon~enwiki, There're valid contributions under the target username. Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped. But there’s no problem if you're the account owner, which needs ownership confirmation, either by logging into the account or if you have other ways you can email us. 🪶-TΛNBIRUZZΛMΛN (💬) 21:48, 27 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I just emailed you. Thanks! Mignon~enwiki (talk) 03:00, 28 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Note for Renamers: please see Ticket:2026012810000549. 🪶-TΛNBIRUZZΛMΛN (💬) 06:38, 28 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Tanbiruzzaman and @Mignon~enwiki Would you like your eo.wiki contributions to be merged into Mignon? Keep in mind that you need to tell us now, as accounts cannot be merged otherwise. To provide context to the renamers: the sequence would be
  1. unattach eo.wiki from Mignon~enwiki
  2. rename the local account that was just unattached into an usurp name
  3. unattach eo.wiki from Mignon
  4. rename the local account that was just unattached into Mignon~enwiki
  5. reattach Mignon~enwiki (this will attach the local account that was renamed)
  6. rename the global account Mignon~enwiki into Mignon
A steward will need to handle it. Leaderboard (talk) 17:49, 30 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
For some reason I thought we were dealing with the account swap, but if the above is feasible it seems like an even better implementation. A09|(pogovor) 13:57, 31 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Leaderboard: Are merges possible? The banner at the top of the section says they're not, so when Mignon~enwiki and I spoke about that possibility as the best option I had to correct myself and look into usurpation. It would be great to know that merges are possible again. Wugapodes (talk) 07:16, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Wugapodes: Mignon is not eligible for standard usurpation. It can be usurped only if there is evidence of ownership, which is unfortunately not present here or in the email sent by Mignon~enwiki. While it's possible that Mignon and Mignon~enwiki are the same person, proceeding without clear evidence would overlook licensing concerns, which I believe no one wants to do. As noted at the top of this section, automatic merges are not possible, and I don't think it would be ideal to proceed with a manual merge without clear evidence. Even if there were evidence of ownership, the only solution here would have been usurpation of the Mignon username, not a merge of contributions from both accounts. – DreamRimmer 08:13, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@DreamRimmer: Have you checked the ticket? Connection seems plausible enough to me. A09|(pogovor) 22:05, 5 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@A09: That is why I said it is possible that Mignon and Mignon~enwiki are the same person. I did see the email content, but I was looking for more direct evidence. @Wugapodes: I have no issue with granting this request, and I trust the judgement of all the users involved here. I am leaving this decision to another renamer/steward. – DreamRimmer 07:33, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@DreamRimmer I appreciate the caution, but I'd still ask for some lenience here. While chatting in person during the trouble shooting process at the Wikipedia Birthday event, Mignon spoke to me in fluent Esperanto. It's possible there's no connection, but if so, learning an auxlang is really committing to the bit for an internet username. Not my call to make of course, and I trust the stewards judgement on cross-wiki matters like this. I was clear with Mignon that this would be a long shot. Wugapodes (talk) 06:59, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
This sounds close to how cases are handled when someone forgets their 2FA authentication, and WMF is usually roped in at that point to verify identity. I wonder whether something similar could be done here. Leaderboard (talk) 07:11, 6 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
@Wugapodes It depends on what we're talking about. These are not possible:
  • merging two global accounts
  • and by extension, merging two local accounts
Here, the contributions from account 1 and 2 are joined together in the merged account.
What we're talking above is not the same, and has always been possible. It relies on the fact that the edit count of the first account on a certain wiki is 0 (or low enough to be discarded), while the edit count of the second account is large (such as cases where a user one account for one wiki, and another account for a different wiki). So instead of merging, the account of the wiki with 0 edits is detached and locally usurped, and the account with a lot of edits is locally renamed to the name of the global account. The local word is important, as only stewards can do it. This is also why I said that the user needs to make the decision now, as if the user starts to contribute on the wiki where they have 0 edits, this will no longer work.  On hold until 16 February 2026. The user to be usurped doesn't have an email address attached to their account. Leaderboard (talk) 18:58, 2 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

Crewstor

[edit]
@Crewstor Please confirm this request was filed by you by signing into your account and leaving a signature here. Thanks! A09|(pogovor) 22:56, 8 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
Thank you for your message. I am indeed the owner of the account "Crewstor". Unfortunately, I am unable to sign in to confirm this request because the email originally associated with the account was my middle school email, which has since been deactivated after I moved to high school.
I can provide the old email address and any additional information from my editing history if it would help verify that I am the rightful owner of the account.
Thank you very much for your understanding and assistance! ~2026-87465-0 (talk) 15:12, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
(non-admin comment) consider creating a new account and requesting to ursurp "Idk12367" from that account after making some contributions, as currently "Crewstor" has no contribs(edits). Cheers! Monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 22:06, 9 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
i can't connect to my old account in any possible way because my e-mail doesn't exist anymore. Idk12367 (talk) 19:38, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
A question(just curious), why do you need the account "Crewstor"? There aren't any contributions on that account, so unless you want to unify your username on every platform(which can be accomplished by, after establishing yourself on a Wikipedia, filing another upsurp request to replace "Crewstor" with "Idk12367") I don't really see the point of this. Cheers! Monkeysmashingkeyboards (talk) 20:55, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I need the name, not the account. ~2026-92702-6 (talk) 05:55, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
(non-admin comment ) Then you can just use the new account, and abandon the old one. Taiwanese Elephant🐘(talk|contribs) 06:07, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I need the name. I cannot abandon my account. ~2026-92702-6 (talk) 06:08, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
So which name do you need, and which account you can login now? Taiwanese Elephant🐘(talk|contribs) 06:10, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
And to clarify, are both of the accounts listed yours? A09|(pogovor) 20:56, 10 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
yes. ~2026-92702-6 (talk) 05:55, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]
Not done @Alurem: Usurpation is available only for well-established users. I suggest you submit your request again once you have made at least 100 edits on any Wikimedia Project, such as the English Wikipedia. Yours sincerely, Exusiai 彼女の愛は、甘くて痛い。 07:05, 11 February 2026 (UTC)[reply]
