This page hosts requests to stewards and global renamers for a username change across the entire Wikimedia network. Please read the instructions before posting a request.

This is also the page where the usurpation of inactive accounts can be requested.

Instructions[edit]

SUL finalization[edit]

If you are requesting a merge of a global account with one or more unconnected local accounts as part of finalizing your single unified login (SUL) username, please specify which wikis and accounts you want to merge into your global account. These accounts were typically named "account name~wikiname". Please note that we can only merge a local account into a global account when the global account has no edits on the same wiki as the local account.

How to add an entry here[edit]

To add an entry, please copy and paste the text below into the appropriate section.

=== Oldname ===
{{SRUC
|status = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain = global
|Oldname =
|Newname =
|reason = (your remarks here)
--~~~~
}}

Example

For global rename requests:

=== Example ===
{{SRUC
|status     = <!--don't change this line-->
|domain     = global
|Oldname    = Example
|Newname    = Foo
|reason     = your remarks here
--~~~~
}}

Making a request for your own account[edit]

For changing your username on one wiki:

Please include the following information in your request:

  • the old username,
  • the new username,
  • please sign ~~~~ request with your account for a simple move (first section), or sign this request with both the originating and the target accounts if you are requesting a merge (second section).

If anything is missing from your request, a steward will request more information. This helps ensure that you are requesting a rename for your own account. Please check before posting your request that the username you want is available. You can test that by going to the (new) user page and looking into the sidebar. If there is a link to user contributions, the account already exists, or check via Special:CentralAuth.

Private requests[edit]

Account renames are not private, once renamed many links from the old username to the new username will be permanently made. The reason submitted on the rename form (Special:GlobalRenameRequest) is private, and only visible by the renamers. Additional information that needs to be made in private may be sent using this direct wiki-email interface while logged-in.

Simple rename requests[edit]

If your rename request is simple and does not involve usurpation of an existing account or other SUL issues, you have two options:

  1. Use the request form at Special:GlobalRenameRequest; or
  2. Submit the request below in this section.

Please use this tool to check if the username is taken before filing a request.

@KopiHangat Antispoof error: Usernames cannot contain the character \"🤭 (U+1F92D)\" because it is an unknown character. —MdsShakil (talk) 17:04, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@MdsShakil and @Neriah what about them? user:😂 and user:❤️ KopiHangat (talk) 19:32, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
No. Emoji cannot be used as a username. Neriah - 💬 - 19:34, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
what if I take over the name? KopiHangat (talk) 19:39, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Is there a policy that strictly regulates it? If I can't, why can they? KopiHangat (talk) 19:35, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
please answer and don't close it yet! thanks KopiHangat (talk) 19:42, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Technically, we can't change the username to an emoji. They created the account from scratch under that name, apparently it's technically possible. I don't really understand it, maybe others understand more and can explain better. Neriah - 💬 - 19:45, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your attention. KopiHangat (talk) 19:48, 15 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I clicked on 'rename user' to check for errors, but I ended up renaming the user directly without any technical issues. While it's technically possible, we usually avoid renaming users to emojis because it might make communication difficult and cause confusion. Since it was accidental, I'm ready to revert it. Alternatively, if @MdsShakil and @Neriah are okay with it, we can leave it as it is. – DreamRimmer (talk) 03:44, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Strange, it was written to me that it was an invalid character.
@KopiHangat Have another username you want, other than emojis? If so, it would be good to change your username to it. Neriah - 💬 - 07:43, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Neriah I think that's enough 🤭 (talk) 08:03, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The problem is that your current username makes communication with you difficult. Instead of returning the username to the previous name, I suggest you choose another name.
Is there a name you want, or shall we go back to the previous one? Neriah - 💬 - 08:34, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Neriah nothing difficult, auto tag and i understand your intentions, but for now i think that's enough. you can close this request 🤭 (talk) 09:32, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@🤭 Currently, the username will be reverted to its previous name. Is this acceptable to you? Neriah - 💬 - 09:49, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Of course I can't accept it 🤭 (talk) 10:17, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
if that is done it will be an abuse of your rights, because I do not agree. and I did not violate any policies. that's just your perspective. 🤭 (talk) 10:23, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your attention, I think that's enough 🤭 (talk) 10:25, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I will not change the username back without permission from another friend. But, since this username makes it difficult to talk to you, I would not approve the request from the beginning, and therefore I support returning the name to the previous name (provided the user does not choose another name he wants).
But as mentioned, I will not make a change according to my own opinion without the consent of another global renamer. Neriah - 💬 - 13:51, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Requests involving merges, usurps or other complications[edit]

Please add new requests at the end of the section. Sections should be titled your username and requests should be signed by the requesting user.
Please note: Per standard procedure, accounts with valid edits are not usurped, and the target account must be notified by renamer at least one month before usurpation.

Not done, Sqrt of 2. The requested username has made a large amount of edits (over 100), so we will not allow the name change. Neriah - 💬 - 07:45, 16 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
