We could greatly use your help doing some quick translations for the SecurePoll (voting) interface that will be used for this years Board and FDC elections. The translation consists of a short, 2 sentence, intro for the vote and 3 short 'titles' saying which vote or question they will be on. The page also lists the candidates for each election which do not need to be translated but can be transliterated if that makes sense for your language/script. Thank you! If you have any questions please feel free to ask on the Elections talk page.

Stop[edit]

US banners are for US volunteers, thank you very much. We are having a serious problem with lack of contributors and you have no right to interfere. (maybe you do, but I'd appreciate it if we could try out a more descriptive banner because our bounce rate is through the roof - no one knows what the heck Wiki Loves Monuments is). You are also not the supreme arbiter of all things WLM. Mono 22:41, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why are you claiming US banners? The international team has set it up, not to be taken over by US volunteers, but to be maintained by the international team. From the beginning I asked you to communicate, if you can't than keep away. Clear? Romaine (talk) 23:01, 14 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'd be more than happy to delegate them to you - I'd like the bounce rate down to 30% (and I have no clue why the US has their own campaign). How's that sound? Mono 03:11, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
How is that specific rate defined/counted and how do you want to get that rate down? I am worried if you say you don't now why the US has their own campaign, as that campaign was specifically requested by the US WLM team last year and confirmed this year. The notice is build in a way that only one text can be used for each each language. Specifically the US requested another text for the USA as another line of text would better fit with the US audience. Romaine (talk) 17:00, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
...I don't see why the US has it's own campaign when they can't even make changes to it. That's what I don't get. Anyway, the bounce rate is the number of people that click the banner and then they just close the tab or go back or leave. We want them to engage with the contest and a high bounce rate means this isn't happening. I was hoping that with more descriptive banner test people would bounce less, but I have no way of predicting that. Mono 18:12, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The CentralNotice is a tool set up by the international team, for the people in the US, that two groups of banners are used is purely technical and internal for the coordinators. For the Wikimedia movement it is only one banner. If anything goes wrong, people blame the international team so we want to keep control over it.
Two days ago the banner system was messed up with your edits, you changed also a lot that concerned us much.
Two causes are possible for a high bounce rate, the notice text suggests something that is not enough clear or is not matching with the page it links to. That second issue is playing for more sites. We have it with the NL site too, as it appears that compared with Belgium, they (NL) got more visitors and a relative high bounce rate compared with BE, and they discuss now how to improve the site to enable a better flow of the visitor. Visiting the website for WLM US thinking as an anonymous user, I miss a logo of some kind to keep the website recognizable as related to Wikipedia or to the logo of the contest. I must say I miss that with several other websites too. But there are also other factors on a site that can be improved perhaps. The first issue can be improved if the US team thinks another line of text would be better for the CentralNotice. Romaine (talk) 22:46, 15 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help test better mass message delivery[edit]

Hi. You're being contacted as you've previously used global message delivery (or its English Wikipedia counterpart). It doesn't feel so great to be spammed, does it? ;-)

For the past few months, Legoktm has built a replacement to the current message delivery system called MassMessage. MassMessage uses a proper user interface form (no more editing a /Spam subpage), works faster (it can complete a large delivery in minutes), and no longer requires being on an access list (any local administrator can use it). In addition, many tiny annoyances with the old system have been addressed. It's a real improvement! :-)

You can test out MassMessage here: testwiki:Special:MassMessage. The biggest difference you'll likely notice is that any input list must use a new {{#target:}} parser function. For example, {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales}} or {{#target:User talk:Jimbo Wales|test2.wikipedia.org}}. For detailed instructions, check out mw:Help:Extension:MassMessage.

If you find any bugs, have suggestions for additional features, or have any other feedback, drop a note at m:Talk:MassMessage. Thanks for spamming! --MZMcBride (talk) 05:26, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

CentralNotice for WM-AR event[edit]

Hi Romaine! I hope you are ok.

I'm trying to create a CentralNotice banner for a hackathon we are organizing in Wikimedia Argentina. I've tried to follow the steps on Help:CentralNotice but is clearly for those with permissions to create the banners (and I don't have that permission) and it doesn't say anything about how to proceed, besides posting the proposed banners on CentralNotice/Calendar. I've seen that you uploaded a banner recently so I would like to know how to proceed and if someone can create the banner (or what is needed to create it). --Osmar Valdebenito (WMAR) (talk) 18:54, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Osmar Valdebenito, First you need to make an example how the banner should look like, post such on my talk page below. Then I can make a banner for you. Your help in bringing this information to different language communities has tremendous value: many people are timid about grants, and having to digest all this relatively-formal information in English makes it even more scary.

Your translations can help more Wikimedians apply for funding, and thereby enable more awesome work to take place around the world. Thank you for your valuable efforts!
