== SUL ==

Hi! I saw that you are stewardess on meta and bureaucrat on en.wikipedia so I need little help from you about one problem. I tried to manage my global account (SUL) but I could not do that because I realized that there are other accounts with the same name on other wikimedia projects (http://toolserver.org/~vvv/sulutil.php?user=conquistador). All these accounts are inactive, except on the Portugese Wikipedia ([http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador en.wikipedia.org], [http://en.wikiquote.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador en.wikiquote.org], [http://es.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador es.wikipedia.org], [http://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador fr.wikipedia.org], [http://ja.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador ja.wikipedia.org], [http://nl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador nl.wikipedia.org], [http://pl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador pl.wikipedia.org], '''[http://pt.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador pt.wikipedia.org]''', [http://tr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador tr.wikipedia.org], [http://zh.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Conquistador zh.wikipedia.org]). There is one account that was edited and filled with some data. That user has not edited his account since the 21st December 2005, the same day he opened his account. Furthermore, he has made only 5 edits in total. I opened my account on the Croatian Wikipedia on the 3rd May 2005 and I have made 1128 edits since then. According to [http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/SUL Help:SUL] I have the superior claim on this username, so I am asking you if you could help me in merging these accounts with mine, so I could have global account. Thanking you in advance. --[[User:Conquistador|Conquistador]] <small>([[User talk:Conquistador|talk]])</small> 16:13, 5 January 2009 (UTC)

Deletion policy

You said "Articles that you don't feel meet WM:IP should be listed for normal deletion", but the seventh point of Criteria for speedy deletion doesn't agree with you ;)--Nick1915 - all you want 02:28, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree. A parody of Wikipedia isn't something that is "clearly irrelevant to the Wikimedia Foundation". (and perhaps that point should actually be changed to say community instead of Foundation). Angela 08:31, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Angela. Following your above remark, I started a discussion at Meta talk:Deletion policy#Speedy deletion general criterion #7. If you have time, I'd appreciate your thoughts. Regards, Korg 15:46, 23 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Speedy" mistake

My error I rather think. It was tagged as such but someone I trust & I failed to review it more thoroughly, sorry --Herby talk thyme 07:29, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry Herby and Angela, I didn't mean to get it deleted, its just that it was written in such a way that it felt like it either belonged on ED or Uncyclopedia' since i edit on uncyclopedia, the resemblance was uncanny..sorry for the mistake..and I'm really sorry Herby for breaking your trust in me..I'm really really sorry..--Cometstyles 08:07, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Requesting removal of admin privileges

Hi, could you remove my admin privileges from the Commons? After I was selected the times/things in my personal life have changed and I no longer have the time. I'm posting this on my commons talk page as well. —TeVe 13:57, 27 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Problems of Italian Wikipedia

Hi. As you probably know, Italian people are culturally led to organize themselves in mafious-oriented association systems. I'm a user of it.wiki, I prefer to keep me anonymous to avoid unpleasant revenges by administrators.

Italian Wikipedian community is severely weakened by a heavy problem. There's a group of sysops who abuse of their power. They manipulate policies, ban users without consensus, and they've created a wall making themselves unassailable. Wikipedian community is not able to withdraw their adminship, but there's strong need to do it.

This group of sysops is gradually eliminating all users (and other admins) who don't share the same viewpoints of them, or simply people who denounce their abuses. Can you help us? --Vun 10:38, 31 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I suggest you assume good faith and discuss the problems with them there rather than resorting to calling them "mafious-oriented". Angela 10:01, 5 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your untagged images

Would you please explain the sources and licenses of the following images?

Image:Webuseraward2004.jpg is fair use, but our template:fairuse is now redirected to template:delete.--Jusjih 23:53, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't take the 4th of July and don't know who did. Angela 04:58, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for tagging some of them. I got the above list from Untagged Images tool sorted by uploader. Sj uploaded Image:Wp 4juillet-board.jpg. You were listed because of making a different version. I will ask Sj for the source. When tagging Image:Webuseraward2004.jpg as fair use, it is now subject to speedy deletion. Please reply if you do not wish it deleted.--Jusjih 15:02, 7 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Can you give me a link to back up this claim that "fair use is not allowed on meta" please? It is needed for pages like the Trophy box which is meant to display awards we are given since some of those awards are in the form of a copyrighted icon we're allowed to display here. Angela 02:17, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please read Meta:Requests_for_deletion/Archives/2007#Fair_use_images where fair use on copyrighted images was consider impractical here. If you disagree, we should probably bring this issue for a new discussion with others.--Jusjih 02:26, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Imho fair use imgs, if relevants for meta, WM's world etc. or for historical interests, could be allowed here and they don't conflict with EDP policy. We should continue this discussion here. Thanks--Nick1915 - all you want 02:47, 9 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK. I already started that topic there and we should talk and redefine the acceptability of fair use images here. Meanwhile, template:fairuse should probably be redirected to template:rfd for regular but not speedy deletion. --Jusjih 02:48, 10 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Azeri

Hello, user:Vusal, has created thousands of empty or inefficient pages like this http://az.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abdullah_G%C3%BCnday in azeri wikipedia. Most of these short articles are listed here http://az.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kateqoriya:Az%C9%99rbaycan_Kinosu-%C5%9E%C9%99xsl%C9%99r. Besides this he uploaded hundreds of unlicenced images. I demand that these pages be deleted. --Uannis 17:59, 31 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please keep this discussion in one place at Requests for comments/Admin AMD's abuse from Azeri wikipedia rather than copying the same message to so many talk pages. Angela 02:10, 3 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Stewards' temporary self-promotions without local traces

As I found you at Talk:Stewards#Assigning_rights_to_yourself, could you please say something fair and impartial as I have a dispute with Majorly who does not fully understand the talk there? For your four points there, I hereby give my comments:

  1. For the first point "consider if it's necessary or whether there are local admins who could deal with whatever it is you need an admin for", I tried to seek comments at Talk:Steward_policies#Changing_rights_in_own_wiki.3F with a scenario that I may face. Rdsmith4 answered my question, so I took his advice without ever daring to do anything that would leave local traces logged there, but Majorly kept misunderstanding me and would not listen.
  2. For the second point "let the local community know why you've become a sysop", language barriers can make it hard to notify, so I would need better advices.
  3. For the third point "record this at requests for permissions or its archive page so other users know what's going on", it will be easier if a sample record can be shown. Our user right log automates the relevant actions.
  4. For the fourth point "remove those rights as soon as possible to prevent complaints about unelected admins appearing for no apparent reason", I would always do it while hoping that Internet connection would not be lost.

As I am a very junior steward, I cannot always know everything while our steward policy is not fully clear. Rdsmith4 is two-year senior to me, so I trusted his words, but Majorly followed me to continue "biting new steward" like "biting new users" at his talk page after asking him for comments.

After all, since you are a very senior steward and we have met before, I trust your four points with some questions. I consider missing required attribution for transwikied images a GFDL violation while copyright policy is very important. After Adambro asked me, I answered and s/he said no more. I cannot trust Majorly talking to me like a POV warrior, unless someone says something fair and impartial. Thank you.--Jusjih 02:46, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That conversation is 2 and a half years old. Please read the steward policies for the rules on this. I'm sorry, but I can't see any reason at all why you would need to give yourself adminship on the German Wikipedia when that project has 295 admins of its own. I think Majorly is right and you are misusing steward tools. Being a steward doesn't give you the right to become an admin on any project you like. Angela 03:37, 7 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Then how to properly make ten steward actions per year? The policy is not fully clear. I have heard that in case of server failure deleted edits may be lost, at least on Wikisource. Then what?--Jusjih 01:19, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
No steward actions are needed on the German Wikipedia. Their own admins deal with this. Looking up deleted revisions is not a steward task. Angela 11:40, 11 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sufficiently satisfied here while Daniel Mayer has said "needless bureaucracy and delay", so I would like to invite you to see Requesting help from local Wiki sysops or bureaucrats with language barriers where I am looking for an alternative solution.--Jusjih 01:58, 1 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Request of removal of admin privileges

Username block

hi there, my user id was recently blocked as a sockpuppet of hot20024 because my username was hot200245 I have told the admin that blocked me that this was not fair because my username was like hot20024's and went onto explain that I would be taking legal action against the blocking admin for not reading the terms of the blocking policy. I am a Contract Law student and I know how a contract should be done. Please can you review the block as I believe it to be unjustifiable and against the rules of your wikipeida.

False Spam Claim In Edit War

This user 122.109.182.212 claimed my edit on the Anti-Metrication Artical was spam - it was not spam and was factual, if an edit war continues I will take action.....

plea

Dear Angela, I hope You don't mind if I ask You kindly to drop the users You promote an invitation to #wikimedia-adminconnect (we made a Template:Invite with a copy and paste text for the local user talk too), and imho even more important to remind them to translate the interface at betawiki: only. Betawiki is trying hard to get people translating there but still we see lots of translations made locally (even wrong sometimes, not once I saw people translating the English interface locally (because they had the preferences set to English) and thus mixing up the preferences language but the local language remained untranslated).

If You are on irc You are of course also very welcomed to that channel.

Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 10:46, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for doing that for the 2 I just promoted. I'll do this in future. Angela 10:55, 3 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Paperlessarchives.com

Please rethink your blacklisting of paperlessarchives.com Wjhonson 15:51, 18 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Paperlessarchives has been blacklisted since before the Spam blacklist feature existed on meta, so it wasn't me that blacklisted it. You should Talk:Spam blacklist#Proposed removals to suggest removals if there's any reason to suspect they are not still spamming Wikipedia. Angela 03:31, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

SUL mess-up

I messed up on SUL stuff...so I was wondering if you could rename my enWP account (Hornetman16) to my global account(ChristianMan16)?--   ChristianMan16  01:48, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your account is indefinitely banned on the English Wikipedia. I would hazard a guess that it won't happen. Daniel (talk) 01:57, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That doesn't mean it can't be renamed for a possible future unban.--   ChristianMan16  01:59, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I am unaware of any bureaucrat ever renaming a banned user except in cases where right to vanish was allowed, and even then it is rare for that to happen. Daniel (talk) 02:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
So you would rather bring into this questions about the user sockpuppetting to evade the block rather than just deal with this situation in a simple and easy manner? Not every user banned on en: is banned everywhere (poetlister on several sites comes to mind) and with a unified login, saying "Just screw him" to users who are allowed at other parts of the project are only going to lead to multiple whining about sockpuppetty from user whose sole goal was to avoid such bitching by following channels. Yes Hornetman16 has severe issues on en:wp. He was allowed second chance on Simple English (where Angela is still listed as admin) and while it is still a work in progress, he is moving strongly forward as a good editor. The main request here is to work out the naming issue for SUL. Pure and simple. rename and block the new name to match the old, or move and block.. it realy isn't more than 3 edits (worst case, move talk and user + block to match the old block all while including a note that this is SUL related.) If anything, this is saving en:Alison and En:Thatcher extra work later as those en:Checkusers will be drawn into proving what is already known when someone whines that en:wp admins actually let him edit under his global name.
CM16 has previously stated it is dealing with a future unban, and that is all upon the en:community to decide at whatever later date , but for now he is manning up and trying to self-identifying to prevent issues with en:admins on the suggestion of a B'crat/Checkuser. With SUL going live for all users, every wiki essentially gets his account as new account. He is trying to do the right thing and actually accept his ban on en being transferred to his account and this is the result he gets.. Move/rename, block to match and move on - is it realy that hard? Why all the drama? Creol 05:27, 28 May 2008 (UTC) (Simple English B'crat/admin and Checkuser)[reply]
Show heart enough for this you can still continue my ban and block the new account I just want it renamed.--   ChristianMan16  02:06, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
ChristianMan16 is now one of the best editors on the Simple English Wikipedia. He only wants it renamed to fix the global login. He just said you may ban him there also, just that you could fix the login stuff. He is no longer just a sock-puppet creator, he has been editing a lot. Could you help him out? Thanks -- AmericanEagle  03:10, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
American Eagle: You and ChristianMan16 (and to a lesser extent, Andrew from NC) have worked together as a social network. Wikipedia is not to connect with friends. You shouldn't defend a user like ChristianMan16, who has shown poor and rude conduct, a huge signature (as far as output goes, not code), and a habit of advocating censorship. en:User:Ionas68224 03:43, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Ionas68224: You are a blocked and banner user. Also, before Simple, I had never heard of ChristianMan16. How can you say we're friends since he lives in Florida and I in Michigan? Maybe you thought were Internet friends. When I started there he invited me to meet him on his Myspace, I openly rejected him because I didn't like Myspace. But I'm guessing that because you included Andrew from NC in this (who only gets a couple of times a month), you only visited Wikiproject Christianity (of which we're both members). When he was on en:WP, he did try to defend censorship (which, in itself, isn't wrong), but he broke the rules by creating sock-puppets, and is now blocked. He doesn't wish to be unblocked, just that they change his name there so he can help out more easily on Simple and any other projects. There is nothing wrong with that. Angela I hope that you would change ChristianMan16's username for him, he does not with to be a vandal. Cheers -- AmericanEagle  04:59, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I would like to submit another request here....before this account gets blocked on enWP after the move, I would like to add my monobook.css to the account. Thanks.--   ChristianMan16  06:33, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Please go to the proper place for renames. I won't process requests made here. Angela 14:15, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That's just it...I can't do it that way for two reasons...I'm banned and the SUL is activated and a Steward (you) is needed to override it.--   ChristianMan16  16:36, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's not possible to rename you if you already made your global account. You'd need to delete that first before any renames can happen. See Steward requests/SUL requests. Angela 23:06, 28 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just a short followup to say that all is done and sorted now. We basically did what Creol suggested here and, with the help of Spacebirdy and WJBscribe, got the whole thing sorted. So everyone goes home happy :) Sorry it got dumped on your page, Angela - Alison 01:11, 7 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Protection

I was thinking, Angela, that you should protect your talk page from being moved by non-sysops, perhaps. Every year there are a few attacking moves to this page, and there is no real reason to move it. Huji 09:49, 13 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Simple English Wikipedia

Hi Angela, I've proposed that several inactive admins lose adminship on Simple English Wikipedia. Since you are one of those people, and I know you are more active over here and on Wikia, I thought I'd let you know. Cheers, Majorly talk 22:46, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

re: Invites

Dear Angela, thanks for Your question. Imho it does make much sense also for temporary admins >1 month because they usually are not as experienced and could need help or might have questions. Also a very important part of the invitation contains a reminder to translate the interface at betawiki: (and to upload at commons:); I always try to get people to go to betawiki because it is a pitty if a translation is only done in one project but could be globally available, also I have seen lots of wrong translations already (e.g. if someone has another language set in his interface than the projects language and goes to special:allmessages he will translate the other languages interface not the projects one; people sometimes translate variables that should not be translated and thus are breaking the interface (betawiki now has explainations for lots of messages); etc. )

Of course, please feel free to improve or complete the invitation message if You find something strange worded or miss something.

Best regards, --birdy geimfyglið (:> )=| 14:51, 27 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Libelous and litigious edit by IP 66.231.135.46

I just noticed the person posted from this IP address: 66.231.135.46 posted a very libelous and litigious statement on a wikipedia page. You might want to look at this persons recent posts and take action against him/her.
