Regarding Over Zealous Admins and the Deletion of the Alvin Fields wiki page:

Bastique, I know you are probably very busy but we feel the deletion of this page was condescending and unnecessary since this Singer/Songwriter/Actor does fill the quota for notability. The Admins have blocked editing use and made it impossible to access any editing on this page. Here is a breif history of these admins rash actions: This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference.

OTRS Permissions ticket

Hi, hope you may be able to help, or find me someone who can. There is a discussion as to the copyright status of wikipedia:AFI's 100 Years... 100 Movie Quotes. On the talk page is a claim that OTRS ticket 2007041310002766 resolved this issue, but there's no formal confirmation of that, and I can't see into the inner workings of OTRS. Please can you take a look at that ticket and provide a suitable confirmation on the talk page? Otherwise the list may be deleted and restored ad infinitum. Rights at en.labs.wikimedia

Hi there! I'm working with the group that's attempting to construct a workable implementation of FlaggedRevisions on en.wiki, and so I'm interested in experimenting with all the rights and options that are available. I made a steward request for sysop rights on en.labs.wikimedia, but was told to ask one of the local bureaucrats directly, so here I am. Would you be willing to grant me sysop status on en.labs? As I mentioned in the steward request, I'm an active sysop at en.wiki and there isn't really a community (or indeed content!) to consult at en.labs. I'm not on meta very often so if you wouldn't mind either replying at en:User talk:Happy-melon, or just dropping a note there after responding here, I would be hugely greatful. copyright permission

hey there. sorry to bother you, this has become rather long and complicated, but hopefully you can help :) i want to use a radio interview as a source for an article, but the only copy of the interview is hosted on a blacklisted site. an admin has said that it is suitable for whitelisting so long as the site has permission to host the interview (like it says in wp:copyrights). now, as the site owner is the guy being interviewed, i was pretty sure that he must have permission. but another admin seems to have a personal history with this guy so he won't accept this and said that confirmation from the radio DJ was required. so i emailed the DJ and he confirmed that the site owner had permission to host it and even gave me permission to use it how i wanted so long as it wasn't for profit. but the admin doesn't believe me about the DJ's email and says that i need to forward it to otrs. i'm not really sure what otrs is or how it works (actually i'm not really sure that all this is necessary as wp:copyrights simply says to avoid linking to "known" copvios) but anyway, maybe you can tell me what to do or where to forward the email. thanks :) Jessi1989 15:44, 29 November 2008 (UTC)

hey, yeah, to be honest i'm not sure. i need to link to a radio interview recording hosted on that site. so i requested whitelisting, and it looks like the whitelisting should be ok. however, one admin wants me to "prove" that the site owner is not violating copyright by hosting this file and has explicitly told me to contact otrs about it. i don't think it's really necessary either. i'm happy to go back and tell them that you said it's not needed, if you think that's best? hey, sorry to keep bothering you, i don't think i explained the situation properly. the interview was done on kerrang radio (a uk radio station). the person who was being interviewed is hosting a copy of the interview on his own website. the admin wants proof that he has copyright permission, so i emailed the radio station, who obviously own the interview. they replied confirming that the interviewee had permission to host their interview on his site. the admin wants me to forward this email to otrs to confirm what the radio station told me, as he doesn't seem to trust me (like i said he has a history with the interviewee). so otrs will not have to verify whether this recording is copyvio directly, just verify the radio station's email confirming copyright permission. sorry if you already understood this. if you still think otrs is not required here i'll say so in the whitelisting request. thanks for your time :) Jessi1989 05:24, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Input needed on a Wikiversity project

Hi Bastique. I'm trying to get a project started on Wikiversity: Wikipedia and the 2008 US elections‎, which is a research project on how Wikipedia articles are created and improved, particularly when the topic is the subject of strong sentiments and relates to events that change over the time period in the study (probably January 2008 through January 2009, but there's some question about when the campaign actually "began").

I'm leaving you (and a few other folks) this note because you've had some interest in Wikiversity's studies of Wikipedia in the past, I wanted to get a few more eyes on the project before announcing it on Wikipedia: I hope to do that over the next few days on the talk pages of the 4 "beta test" articles: w:Barack Obama, w:John McCain, w:Sarah Palin, and w:Joe Biden, with a broader announcement later after the initial kinks are worked out. I was also hoping you would know people who would be interested in this, as well as knowing people with a few "special skills", including:

1. Data collection and sorting from the article histories (how many edits and what sorts of edits over a given time period, etc.)
2. People who can make good graphs and charts from that data
3. people who can help develop guidelines for whether and how to discuss individual editors if they are felt to be "notable"

That's definitely the sort of graphics I had in mind, but I'm more interested in how the "communal creative process" works, so the data would need a more subtle analysis. I am a new user and encountered adware while using wikipedia. The following pages have links to ez-tracks.com The site links to ringtone vendors that obfuscate subscription sign up and/or terms and conditions for free ringtones with flashy promotional content. In our tests, we found downloads on this site that some people consider adware, spyware or other potentially unwanted programs. ez-tracks force adware downloads and hijack browsers. Hello. At this time we have no specific project-related "Calls for Volunteers"; and the Wikimedia Foundation office is presently at capacity. However, as much of the project work is self-regulated, you can do plenty of work here on your own. One way to help out is with the customer service system known as OTRS (see m:OTRS). Spanish Wiki and English Wiki

Hi there Bastique. I'm an editor from the English Wikipedia project, but I read and sometime edit the Spanish Wikipedia pages. I've noticed on the Spanish Wikipedia that they have several links to several tools on a page's history page. You can click to get a list of editors, contribution details, search the history, get general statistics on an article, or check the number of visits to a page. Check out this page. The Herramientas are tools (list of editors, contribution details, and history search), the Estadísticas are statistics (general stats and number of visits). We should add this to our pages too. Hi. Semi-annual nudge. I was wondering if you had any info/updates on the Wikipedia logo situation?

It's been a year since your post at Talk:Errors in the Wikipedia logo (which got archived, sadly), and a while since any developments at Talk:Wikipedia/Logo. It's also been over 2 years since the nytimes article. There were a few mentions on the mailing list, eg this thread. But this from Brion Vibber was the last "official" word I know of. There might be more clues in this en:WP:VP thread or at en:User_talk:Ambuj.Saxena/Wikipedia-logo.

Deleted images

Hello, I recently uploaded an image and it was automatically categorized for speedy deletion. I don't understand why because I used the proper licensing. I contacted the company directly via email ticket #2009100210033461 and they agreed to release the image, and other, under CC-by-SA 3.0. Skier Dude (talk) deleted my page and he recommended me to contact an admin to verify the email and to have the image restored. You can reply to this image on my talk page Elmatamoskas (talk)

WT logo vote

The Wiktionary logo vote first round will end soon and logo #59 is winning 243 votes to #1's 216 (at least that's what it was an hour ago) which makes me believe that #59 is most likely to win the second round. A while ago, you mentioned that since the Foundation is holder of the Wiktionary copyright and mark, the Foundation must approve any Wikimedia-wide logo change. Do you know if it would be possible to receive approval in advance of the vote, and if so, how? It would probably be better to be on the safe side, and make sure in advance that the logo will be actually able to be used... --Yair rand 01:59, 27 December 2009 (UTC)

Steward 2010 reconfirmation question

I am asking my questions for the reconformation directly, so, here we go. How does being a Steward help you with your role as Volunteer Coordinator? How does it hinder it? Do you feel that if you did not have the Volunteer Coordinator duty that you would be more active as a Steward or less? Do you feel that without the Volunteer Coordinator duty that you would be more active on various projects or less? If you had the free time to accomplish one goal on any project, what would it be? He's here because there is no question-and-answer portion for Steward reconfirmations--in general because existing stewards, their behaviors and their philosophies are generally well-known to the community. Questions in the reconfirmation potentially places an unnecessary burden of response on them. Ottava is asking stewards individually on their user pages which allows them to answer or choose not to answer on their time, and it's appreciated that he's doing it here. Request for disclosure

As evident from this edit, you assigned DR to the ombudsmen commission. In this respect, I have several questions:

1. Are you aware that DR is a checkuser at ruwiki? Isn't it a conflict of interests that a checkuser becomes a member of a commission which is supposed to independently investigate checkuser activities?
2. Are you aware that DR himself was under investigation by the ombudsmen commission for allegedly violating a user privacy by publishing the information on that user's wiki-mail usage in Wikipedia? The commission confirmed that DR violated the user's privacy, but did not impose any actions on DR under a pretense that he did not disclose personally identifiable information. This was a pretty curious decision. Is DR in a secret connection with the ombudsmen commission?
3. Do I understand correctly that the decision to make DR an ombudsmen commission member was made in secrecy by an unknown circle of people? If so, I request a full disclosure of this decision process. SA ru 13:59, 17 February 2010 (UTC)
