Edit proposal/discussion

  • Who would benefit:

Better statistics

Edit proposal/discussion

  • Problem: Wikinews authors cannot check whether the news articles are reposted in other sites, or copied somewhere, or referenced from other sites. This prevents Wikinews from following the users' interests, prevents from coöperation with broad readers.
  • Who would benefit: Wikinews authors and, a little later, all Wikinews readers.
  • Proposed solution: allow Wikinews authors to see referrals to the articles, to know from what source the readers appear, possibly with some extension.

  • I'm not sure how we can do the tracking.. Are there open standards that are not privacy invasive (say unlike Google tracking) that can provide this ? Or do you want to see raw incoming referrals ? Honestly with the current level of privacy enforcement by browsers, i'm not sure if referrals still give us this level of insight any longer. Whatever it is, I'm guessing you want more than this? —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 12:30, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
    • The goal is, to see what sites refer to Wikinews, and what are the sources of interest to Wikinews articles. The link you provide shows us the volume of interest, yet we would like to see the sources of interest. --PereslavlFoto (talk) 11:38, 8 November 2019 (UTC)

Lives

Edit proposal/discussion

  • Problem: Lives
  • Who would benefit: The visitors because they have a new way to follow the news. The editors because they don't need to edit the page for a new comment. All people because they don't have to reload the page to view a new comment.
  • Proposed solution: Create an extension, which will be associated with a page type, in the form of a time bar, where will be indicated the time, and a small logo (if specified) of what happened, with right, the comment, and the edit/history buttons.
  • More comments: The anniversary of Wikinews is being celebrated very soon. The deployment of the extension would be a plus.

Wikinews Live Extension Schema 1.png

@AirSThib: it's not clear what do you mean exactly, maybe you could post an example link to this on some other news site? MaxSem (WMF) (talk) 00:19, 30 October 2019 (UTC)

@MaxSem (WMF): This is the schema. AirSThib (Flight attendant · Flights), the 15:47, 31 October 2019 (UTC).
@MaxSem (WMF): If you want a link, see for exemple https://www.eurosport.fr/formule-1/grand-prix-du-mexique/2019/live-course_mtc1085013/live.shtml. AirSThib (Flight attendant · Flights), the 09:25, 1 November 2019 (UTC)
I like this idea.. While Wikinews generally has been rather 'weak' in terms of traction, what we have seen, is that it and even more so Wikipedia, tend to be very popular in vetting and summarising news during or shortly after the event. I think a live feed option, where we can keep track of verified and non-verified information/retractions etc can be a worthy and interesting addition that could open up new possibilities in untapped areas. —TheDJ (talkcontribs) 12:37, 4 November 2019 (UTC)
