Please complete survey for your Project Grants proposal[edit]

Dear Yasmine Djibril Ahmat and Abdallahbigboy

We have sent you a survey link to the email address you provided in this Project Grants proposal. We need you to open the email and fill out the survey as soon as possible. We have emailed you twice without response (on March 20 and March 23), and we are not sure if you still wish for your proposal to be reviewed. If we do not receive your survey response by March 31, 2020, we will mark your proposal withdrawn.

We hope to hear from you!

Warm regards,

Questions from User:T Cells[edit]

Hello Yasmine Djibril Ahmat and thanks for submitting this grant request. I am excited that you want to improve the quality of articles about the top 50 notable Chadian writers and to recruit new members for the Tchad Wikimedians community, a community that is underrepresented on Wikimedia projects. However, I have a few questions and feedbacks for you.

  1. Could you please review your budget (for example USD 545.83 for "Compensation for the trainers of Wikipedia Classroom") and WMF funding guidelines as it appears that some of the budget items may not be compatible with WMF's funding guidelines. WMF does not fund people’s time when it replaces volunteer activities.
  2. Is the "EPSON video projector" for rental or purchase?
  3. Why did you think that training attendees transportation should be funded? I am not sure this is allowed per WMF funding guidelines.
  4. From your budget "Total Travel, equipment & human Ressources coordination cost is "USD 5693,47" but the total budget cost is "USD 6 920,30". How much are you requesting from the project grant? Could you clarify the discrepancy?
  5. Could you fix the budget table so that we could properly evaluate your budget?
  6. Since this request is from WMF affiliate (the Wikimedia Community User Group Tchad), Could you announce this grant request on your official user group page on Meta and a local language forum (if any) that is recognized by your group, to allow adequate space for objections and support to be voiced per WMF funding guidelines. It doesn't look like this has been announced in the relevant page or forum.

Thank you. Looking forward to reading your response. T CellsTalk 13:02, 5 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal withdrawn by staff due to COVID-19 restrictions[edit]

Dear Yasmine Djibril Ahmat,

As you are aware, global public health guidance during the COVID-19 pandemic continues to emphasize the importance of staying home, canceling public gatherings, and minimizing in-person contact. As the gravity of the pandemic has become clearer, it is less certain when offline gatherings or travel will be safe again. Initially, we had requested that offline events be postponed until after September 15, 2020. However, due to increasing uncertainty over how long the pandemic will persist, many of our grant programs are no longer funding any offline events or travel until further notice. Project Grants is continuing to fund offline events and travel only at very minimal levels in projects that meet these criteria:

  • core components of the proposed work plan can be completed ‘’’without’’’ offline events or travel.
  • all planned offline events or travel can be indefinitely postponed, until the Wikimedia Foundation’s guidelines allow for them, without significant harm to the goals of your project.
  • the proposal is updated with a COVID-19 response plan by April 16, 2020, providing a brief summary of how these guidelines have been met, and how it would impact the project if travel and offline events prove unfeasible throughout the entire life of your project.

In light of these guidelines, we regret to inform you that we are marking your proposal withdrawn for the current round. While we seek to promote free knowledge, our priority is the safety and well-being of the people who make it possible--you, your Wikimedia community, and the general public. We are acting with an abundance of caution to keep people safe. You are heartily welcomed to submit this same proposal for review in a future round, with the next one scheduled for early 2021. You are also welcome to submit proposals for online events through Rapid Grants.

We deeply regret that this global health situation prevents offline projects from proceeding as planned. We appreciate your time, effort and courage in applying for funding this round, and would welcome another proposal from you in the future, once offline event funding has resumed.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us with any questions you have about this post at projectgrants (_AT_) wikimedia  · org.

Warm regards,

Marti (WMF) (talk) 21:42, 30 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
