Major gifts
The Wikimedia Foundation classifies as major gifts all individual donations of over $1000. Per the Wikimedia Foundation's Guiding Principles, the Foundation deliberately chose a revenue strategy in which a large majority of its funding comes from a large number of small donors, in order to preserve independence.
Major gifts, which make up a minority of the WMF's revenue, are managed by the Wikimedia Foundation Foundations and Major Gifts team, which is part of the Advancement department. Each year, the Foundations and Major Gifts team receives contributions that are a mix of unrestricted general-support funding and funding for specific programs. The mix varies each year, but generally speaking, more than 50% has been unrestricted.[1] Donors of major gifts are listed on the Wikimedia Foundation website.
For Wikimedia Deutschland, major gifts are managed by WMDE's Manager of major donation acquisition (Managerin Großspenden-Akquise), currently Susan Röhlig.[2]
