Luke081515[edit]

Hello, I want to help to translate messages to more languages, like the tech news to german or others, so I need to notificate translator at few cases (not too often, so no spam). I tested the translation system at the beta cluster, so I know how to use it. Greetings, Luke081515 20:38, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please give an example of a page for which you would send notifications. --MF-W 21:32, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, so I in my point of view, tech news are important for a big group of people, but I would not notificate the translators every week about tech news, only if there is a important change, like the change of the API that affected a lot of bot owners (I guess I would choose medium priority, high is still important for policys). So I would try, to choose only the important cases, otherwise we maybe have the situation that we have less translators, and this not the thing, that I want to reach. Greetings, Luke081515 21:56, 5 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I must say this does not sound like a very convincing rationale for requesting translate adminship if you don't even have a concrete idea of what to do with it. --MF-W 02:17, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I want to help to translate pages like Tech News, which affects a lot of people, so we need to tag pages like this early enough, so that translators have the change to translate them, so that we finished with translation, a short period after deadline, so that people who see new tech news, can find them in their language, and can understand them better. Greetings, Luke081515 15:21, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is new to me that pages on Tech News are not marked for translation early enough. Unfortunately you also didnt mention it in your request. --MF-W 10:59, 8 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would tag a page earlier, so I can start people can start earlier with translating, if they got no time at other days. Looks for me as translation to german is needed. Greetings, Luke081515 22:42, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, we read in that bug that it's not, as German users rather read de:WP:NEU. Besides, I do not think it's possible to tag these pages earlier; they are prepared by someone from WMF who also marks them for translation when ready. --MF-W 22:53, 11 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
It is quite an unusual to request TA rights specifically to send the notifications (being a TA for several years I think I have never used the feature) but I believe sooner or later you will end up tagging a page for translation and then marking it. Could you confirm that you have read mw:Special:MyLanguage/Help:Extension:Translate/Page translation example and mw:Special:MyLanguage/Help:Extension:Translate/Page translation administration which are the main documentation pages on translate adminship? If you didn't I ask you to read them please as it's important that all TA follow the same basic standards in tagging thus not confusing the translators with weird stuff. --Base (talk) 21:43, 6 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I read them and tested them, and I don't want only send notifications, sorry if there was missunderstanding, I want to take care about pages like tech news for example, and tag them for tanslation, that we can translate them early enough, that poeple find them in their language, if the search for the newest release of them. Notifications are just a thing, that helps for quick translate, if there is something very important, that a lot of people need to know (like a important API-Change). That's because I request TA, I know that I can contact a TA, if I need to send notifications, but contacting a TA every week for tagging that page is annoying, for me and for him, so I want to tag this page early, and prioritizing some main languages (also my own, because I would translate them on my own), so that the translation finished one or two days after the deadline. Greetings, Luke081515 15:21, 7 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, I know it, I got TA rights at the beta-cluster, enough space to test it. Support Support. The last tech news were not tagged by me, because there were tagged before, and users are not allowed to translate. Greetings, Luke081515 16:34, 12 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Comment Comment Hello Luke! Did you discuss this with Johan? He marks the pages for translation when the text is ready to translate, normally on Thursdays. I don't think there is too much room to mark them for translation before that. He also sends emails to the translator's email distribution lists. Also, if you want to invite more people to translate it, maybe it will be better to send a targeted message to the community where the translation is needed instead of sending notifications every week to all the translators. --Lsanabria (talk) 15:11, 13 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I concur with Steinsplitter, low activity on meta IMO. Also, rationale isn't justified. — regards, Revi 10:17, 14 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Closed as not successful - After 20 day (which is unusual long for such a request), there doesn't seem to be any kind of consensus to grant you TA rights here on meta. Please gain firstly more experience and request it later again. -Barras talk 10:53, 25 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]
