Meta:Requests for adminship
Most requests should be listed here for at least seven days; bureaucrats should only close after the minimum time foreseen in the relevant policy. Discussions are not closed early. Adminship will be granted by a support ratio of at least 75%. If a request hasn't been addressed by a bureaucrat after a lengthy period of time, please leave a note at Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat. Requests may be extended, or put on hold by bureaucrats, pending decision or finding of consensus.
Requests for temporary adminship and bot requests may be less formal and often go for a shorter duration if consensus becomes clear after only a few days of discussion.
All editors with an account on Meta, at least one active account on any Wikimedia project, and a link between the two, may participate in any request and give their opinion of the candidate. However, more active Meta editors' opinions may be given additional weight in controversial cases.
See below for information on prerequisites on submitting a request, and how to add a nomination.
Information
Note that this page is for access on Meta only. See the permission request to stewards page for adminship/deadminship requests on other projects.
Regular adminship
- Before requesting admin access, please check the policy for requesting adminship.
- Use the box below, insert your username:
- Place a request on this page, by transcluding the subpage, for example
{{Meta:Requests for adminship/Username}}. Please put the newest request on the bottom. Bear in mind that even if you do meet the criteria above this does not mean that the community will automatically approve a request. - Please note, past administrators who have given up their rights must meet all criteria at the time of the new request. There is no separate process for reinstating past administrators.
Please note: Ill-considered nominations for adminship can be draining and deflating to both the community and the candidate. Any successful candidate will need to be able to demonstrate sufficient experience within the Wikimedia community, in addition to a familiarity with Meta-Wiki. If a candidate is not already a local administrator or holder of advanced permissions on a Wikimedia content project, they are less likely to pass a request for adminship here at Meta-Wiki.
Bureaucratship
Add your request below under the bureaucratship section. Please note:
- Only active administrators can become bureaucrats, and only after at least 6 months of regular adminship.
- User is endorsed by two current bureaucrats after they nominate themselves here.
If you fail any of these requirements, you will not be assigned the bureaucrat flag. For more information see the Meta bureaucrat page.
Other access
For these types of access, create a subpage just as you would for regular adminship and add it to the appropriate section of this page.
- Interface adminship: Please read the Meta interface administrator page. The WMF requires two-factor authentication for this access.
- Limited adminship: If you need sysop access for a particular reason (such as ability to edit protected pages), you may request limited adminship on Meta. If granted, the user understands that they will only be allowed to use the tools for the tasks they were approved, and not doing so will be grounds for immediate removal. Temporary sysop access will normally be valid for one month unless requested and granted otherwise.
- Bot: Please read the bot policy. This wiki allows global bots and automatic approval of certain types of bots; for other bots, add your request below under the bot section, in the same way as an admin request.
- CheckUser: please read the CheckUser policy and add your request below under the checkuser section, in the same way as an admin request.
- Oversight: please read the Oversight policy and add your request below under the oversight section, in the same way as an admin request.
- Translation administrator: please read Meta translation administrator page and Meta’s page about translate extension. No fixed time limit for these requests is defined, and there are no particular requirements; if you provide a valid reason and demonstrate that you know and understand how to prepare pages for translation, your request will most likely be granted.
- CentralNotice administrator: The Central Notice administrator group grants access to manage and edit banner campaigns. Because of the potentially huge impact of banners on the wikis, this should be granted carefully and sparingly. The WMF requires two-factor authentication for this access.
For these types of access, just ask on Meta request for help from a sysop or bureaucrat page:
- MassMessage senders: please read about MassMessages, and provide a clear reason for requesting access. Specify whether you need it temporarily or permanently.
- Uploaders
- Patrollers
Requests for global renamer permissions are handled at global permission requests to stewards page.
Wikimedia Foundation staff and contractors
If you are a Wikimedia Foundation staff member or contractor and need rights on Meta-Wiki to perform your duties, the request process is different. Please review the WMF staff userrights policy on Foundation-wiki and follow the procedure described there. If in doubt, please contact Trust and Safety by sending an email to ca

Requests for regular adminship

I initially wanted to apply for community-wishlist-manager but was advised to apply directly for adminship instead since the community did not have any existing processes to grant the wishlist-manager right. TLDR, I've helped out a fair bit with the Community Wishlist process by triaging wishes from time to time and contacting relevant WMF teams! I would like the ability to decline wishes that don't include actionable items for the WMF technical teams (i.e., can be resolved by local admins). I'm fairly active on Meta, and if given this right, I'm also willing to participate in helping out with Meta:Requests for help from a sysop or bureaucrat or other admin activities as well. --Sohom (talk) 17:05, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
Support Sure, but we should also be able to grant community-wishlist-manager somehow, I guess. --Ameisenigel (talk) 17:16, 11 October 2026 (UTC)- Hmm, I think limited adminship would be more suitable for what you plan to do here. Jianhui67 talk★contribs 18:25, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
- After reading their replies below, I can support full adminship too. Jianhui67 talk★contribs 04:17, 13 October 2026 (UTC)
- I do agree that limited adminship is suitable for the tasks they want to do, but they also indicate that they'd be open to working on other admin tasks. I think full adminship is also fine as well. Leaderboard (talk) 18:45, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
Support LA per Jianhui (tho I def agree with Ameisenigel). //shb (t • c) 20:03, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
- Just to clarify my !vote: if this ends up as a 50/50 (roughly) between LA or full adminship, I'm leaning towards full adminship. I personally don't see any reason why Sohom should undergo another nomination process if they do ever wish to expand into RfH somewhere down the line when they are clearly trusted and have similar expertise on enwiki. Given Sohom's technical expertise, full adminship will also allow them to gain int admin here without needing to undergo a separate process either (and they are already an IA on enwiki). shb (t • c) 03:11, 13 October 2026 (UTC)
Support but @Sohom Datta: do you need any part of the admin toolset? If not, bureaucrats have the technical capability to grant the community wishlist manager group, so I don't see why that wouldn't be allowable if the community agrees to it, and the principle of least privilege should tell us to grant that instead. If you do in fact want the admin toolset as well, I would also support that, but I don't think we should grant all of adminship just for the Community Wishlist, when a suitable group exists that could be used instead. EggRoll97 (talk) 21:26, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
- @EggRoll97 You are right, for the most part, I should not need the admin toolset for the work that I plan to do wrt to the Community Wishlist. The only case I can think of where I might need admin tools is probably if there is some kind of vandalism on one of the wishes and/or a wish needs deletion. But even in that case, within the principle of least privilege I think LA would be more than enough to solve/cover any issues. Sohom (talk) 11:25, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
Question: If you were to apply for full adminship, in addition to handling requests at RFH, what other admin tasks would you also do? Codename Noreste /// ⭐️✨ 21:39, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
- If given regular adminship, I'm open to also working on Meta:Requests for deletion, blocking and reverting vandals, giving well-meaning users with the autopatrol userright, sending out MassMessages for global discussions and generally monitoring discussion spaces (the last being something I already do). I'm fairly familiar with the breadth of the toolset through my English Wikipedia adminship, but I will make sure to ask questions if I venture into something I am unfamiliar with (for example making changes to global filters or global spam blacklist changes) Sohom (talk) 12:45, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
- In that case with your reasoning, I would fully support for regular adminship. Codename Noreste /// ⭐️✨ 15:37, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
- I would also support IA access to the candidate in addition to regular adminship, per above. Codename Noreste /// ⭐️✨ 03:12, 13 October 2026 (UTC)

Hi, everyone, I'm SHB. I've been an admin here for about 2.5 years and have served as a steward since the start of this year. I'm mainly applying for checkuser locally here on Meta, as while LWCU has been useful in most instances, I've had many cases where LWCU data was insufficient, particularly when checking for sleeper accounts and sockpuppets. If elected, I'd also like to help out with requests at Meta:RfCU. I've held CU perms on my home wiki of enwikivoyage for about a year now (where I'm also a sysop and bureaucrat) and am reasonably familiar with the tool as well as the checkuser policy and ANPDP. Thanks for your consideration, //shb (t • c) 03:03, 13 October 2026 (UTC)

Support. Trusted and seems reasonable. In a few months I would even support you to become a third CU at English Wikibooks if possible. Codename Noreste /// ⭐️✨ 03:11, 13 October 2026 (UTC)
