...one would think with so many passionate encyclopedists around that they would also make sure to have a simple explanation of What are Wikimedia User Groups...but it looks like self-describing comes last :-) I will try with one-liner: Wikimedia User Groups are (most often informal) groups of Wikimedians that have formal recognition as affiliated entities of Wikimedia system, aknowledged by Wikimedia Foundation as a central legal representative (also technical, administrative and other support) of Wikimedia platform.
Wikimedia movement affiliates..."are independent, but formally recognized, groups of people intended to work together to support and contribute to the Wikimedia movement. The Wikimedia Foundation's Board of Trustees has approved three active models for movement affiliates: chapters, thematic organizations, and user groups. Wikimedia: "User groups have less formal requirements than chapters and thematic organizations. They support and promote the Wikimedia projects locally or on a specific theme, topic, subject, or issue. Once they are recognized by the Affiliations Committee, they enter into a "User Groups Agreement and Code of Conduct" with the foundation."
So if we want to go in direction of being a recognized User group it would be good to start that process sometimes soon, ideally to close it this spring. Zblace (talk) 15:51, 10 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Maybe late 2023 and early 2024 would be more realistic considering other commitments we have regularly in springs. Zblace (talk) 11:33, 18 August 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Probat ću dodati neke ovdje korisnije ovdje: Ime naše Wikipedije, SH Wikipedija 2013.Zblace (talk) 11:21, 15 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
...focusing on basic meeting each other, understanding of shared aims, but maybe also coordination and planning first activities in December. My strong preference is to do it on Tuesday early evening (CEE timezone), but maybe also Wednesday and Thursday can be an option. Would you be able to join? Need help and advises with page formatting...[edit]
Hey folks I would like to format page better so it is compatible with the pages of existing Wikimedia User Group pages on Meta, as well as to make it available for translation but without dropping existing content. Any ideas, advises and help is much appreciated! Zblace (talk) 08:26, 11 November 2020 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Napravio sam neke manje izmjene i usto sam dodao jezičnu traku i kategoriju.
Bravo Kiro!
Unaprijed Hvala! Zblace (talk) 11:25, 15 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
As Kiril suggested it would be good to have some visuals and maybe distinct logo and style of writing our name. Any ideas what could be possibe directions? I love variable logos and style guide of ART+FEMINISM group on commons, though I doubt we can and do as much soon :-) Zblace (talk) 12:39, 17 February 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Interesting visual that maybe works well regionally from UDIK:

exPatYUGOdiasporas is a wiki community in existence since [date]. It is in the process of developing an unconventional Wikimedia Affiliate (User Group). --93.142.143.235 09:28, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply[reply]
I think we could come up with a more digestible name for this future group, and shouldn't spare spaces. Thought about this because "ExPat" is redundant with "diasporas", and also because many of us interested in this aren't in diasporas. My suggestion is: "Ex-YU Wikimedia User Group" (#ExYUWikimediaUserGroup) - following the naming form of all formal Wikimedia user groups -Vipz (talk) 14:21, 26 May 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
Thank you @Vipz - I do understand it is complex, but I think expat aspect is different than diasporic one and it is important for those who are non-exYU people by origin or just generationaly but feel affection and appreciation to the unique complex context of exYU. : Also there are people who never moved from teritory of exYU but political 'reorganization' had them feel expatriated and alienated. Therefore maybe complex is adequate ;-) I think short code that every affilaite has could be WMxYU - No? ;-)
BTW You are welcome to join and sign up on the page :-)
I didn't know about that, thank you! WMxYU sounds good to me, where "x" can stand both for "ex" and the "crossover". -Vipz (talk) 01:28, 15 July 2022 (UTC)Reply[reply]
It's been over half a year since I brought this up, but from experience, I think this kind of word salad, to put it bluntly, is not memorable. After some weeks of not visiting this page, I couldn't remember what it was called if my life depended on it. I had to look into my past contributions to find it. :/ This happened late last month. -Vipz (talk) 21:00, 30 January 2023 (UTC)Reply[reply]
