Week-definition used[edit]

What definition is used for the {{CURRENTWEEK}}? Is it based upon {{Week2}} (ISO 8601, January 4 is always week 1, all weeks are full) or {{Week}} (January 1 is always Week 1, and the weeks split at years end/start). Maybe using {{CURRENTISOWEEK}} is a better option? Nsaa 10:52, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

one week two translations or stop new request[edit]

Since there have over 70 requesting article there. I think make two translations in one week is OK, but we need discuss about this. Second, I think should stop new request until there have only 30 articles is queuing.--Flamelai 00:46, 25 February 2009 (UTC)

Is commons a language[edit]

One the last two translations I have created categories to gather together the relevant media about the TOTW subject. Any objection if we add "commons:Grand Coulee" to the list of languages? That way others might assist, and it is a good resource for other wikipedias to call on in their translation if they want more varied pictures etc Victuallers 23:36, 6 December 2009 (UTC)

WikiProject Translation at Wikisource[edit]

Participants here may be interested in Wikiproject Translation at Wikisource. This is an initiative to both gather existing free content translations and generate new ones in a wiki framework. It is very much in the formation stages, and would benefit from the contributions of many voices. --Eliyak 06:03, 11 January 2011 (UTC)

Five prizes for multi lingual challenge[edit]

Wikimedia UK and Derby Museums are offering prizes for a multi-lingual challenge which according to twitter is going to be won by the Catalan editors. The competition is described here and is open until nearly the end of August 2011. Come and see who is in the lead. Victuallers 21:42, 3 May 2011 (UTC)

One week one translation?[edit]

Hi, do I see correctly that as of 01/01/2013, we return to the one week-one translation system? Viktorhauk (talk) 09:03, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Yes, Candidate articles too few --Shizhao (talk) 01:26, 18 February 2013 (UTC)

If we had more candidates, could we go back to 2 per week? PiRSquared17 (talk) 00:43, 7 June 2013 (UTC)

hi? PiRSquared17 (talk) 18:52, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
There is currently no shortage of candidates. Having two articles per week would give translators more choice and ensure every week there is something to do for all languages (e.g. one page exists in English, the other not; ideally reducing overlap also for German, French etc.). --Nemo 16:27, 19 November 2014 (UTC)

Move Translation of the week to wikidata?[edit]

Move Translation of the week to wikidata?--Shizhao (talk) 12:12, 5 March 2013 (UTC)

I think it qualifies as "cross-wiki/interlingual coordination", so it can stay here. However, I have no objections to listing the Wikidata item or moving the whole process to Wikidata. πr2 (t • c) 14:18, 4 April 2013 (UTC)

Medicine Translation Project Community Organizing[edit]

I'd like to ask of you to take a look at a Wikimedia IEG grant a few of us over at Wikiproject Medicine are behind. You may likely have heard of the translation of medical articles that is being done (if not please take a look at w:Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Translation Task Force). The goal of the grant is to get the translation and integration process to run smoothly, and to assess which articles are the most important to translate. We've come far at w:Wikipedia:WikiProject Medicine/Translation task force/RTT, but to get further we feel there is need for some form of organization, preferably by someone who can devote significant time to the task.

I'm very hopeful that I can provide real benefit with this grant, as there are so many articles on Wikipedia that could help people all over the world.
It's even more important when you take into account drives such as Wikipedia Zero, and readers who might not have access to any medical information at all can benefit.

Please take a look at the grant page: Medicine Translation Project Community Organizing, and add a comment or give your ideas on how we can best benefit the other Wikipedias.
Thanks, -- CFCF (talk) 21:19, 2 April 2014 (UTC)

Translation of the week 33/2015[edit]

Who is the winner of Translation of the week 33/2015 ? (The page hasn't been upgraded: Jakob Christmann was the winner of week n. 32) --Holapaco77 (talk) 06:40, 11 August 2015 (UTC)

Content translators needed for a user study on article recommendations[edit]

The Design Research team at the Wikimedia Foundation is seeking volunteers to participate in a series of interviews about translating articles on Wikipedia. The goal of the study is to understand how experienced translators find and select articles to translate from one Wikipedia to another. The results of this study will help improve automated article recommendation tools for content translators.

We would like to speak to editors who have experience translating articles across Wikipedia languages. The only requirements for participating in this study are:

1) the editor must have previously translated at least one Wikipedia article to or from English and one of the following languages: Catalan, Farsi, French, Italian, Spanish, or Swahili.*

2) the editor must be available to speak with a WMF researcher over Google Hangout; if you haven't used Google Hangouts before, don't worry, we will walk you through it. Your participation will take no preparation, and all you have to do is show up at the Google Hangout with your laptop/desktop ready to go.

Each study session will be approximately 50 minutes in length, and can be scheduled at a time that works best for the participants. If you're interested in participating, please send a message with your availability (be sure to note your time zone) to Thank you for helping us improve content translation!

Translation extension[edit]

May we add this page to translation extencion? I think it will be the best way to support Translation of the week page in another languages. Iniquity (talk) 21:05, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

Sorry, I saw this message earlier but failed to reply. I'm not sure why you think the Translate extension may help this initiative, can you clarify? The "other languages" header points to equivalent (but different) pages in various languages, rather than translations. Creating additional translations of the identical content may produce duplication without benefits.
What are your goals with making this page (or others) translatable? Nemo 12:21, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
@Nemo bis: A lot of pages All pages from the "other languages" header are outdated: 2005, 2015, 2012... This extension can help to update 'this' pages. Of cource, old pages must be deleted after all. Iniquity (talk) 12:29, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
@Shizhao and Deryni: ping avtive users. Iniquity (talk) 12:01, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
I noted that EnWp's TOW was not listed at Wikidata, so I added it. May this help in any way, regarding this particular problem!? Anyway we need more than one good idea, to bring more writers to our TOW-project. More writers bring more diversity and that will make the project sparkle. Deryni (talk) 13:18, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
or add to mw:Extension:ContentTranslation?--Shizhao (talk) 13:36, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
I think it will help. And yep, Im talking about mw:Extension:ContentTranslation. Iniquity (talk) 15:31, 17 February 2017 (UTC)
@Deryni and Shizhao: So, what do you think about mw:Extension:ContentTranslation? It will be really helpful if content of this page will update auto in another languages.
I'm not familiar with the function, but it would be worth a try. We need more voters and more suggestions. Deryni (talk) 22:24, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
So, we restructured the page for easy translation, and we have new pages now:
Iniquity (talk) 14:10, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

I have recreated this logo to SVG format. What do you think about it?

Iniquity (talk) 22:38, 25 February 2017 (UTC)

Looks good to me, especially considering that gradients went out of fashion since 2006. Though my input is not very important since I am not really involved in the project. --Base (talk) 14:48, 26 February 2017 (UTC)
nice--Shizhao (talk) 08:07, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
Good work! Deryni (talk) 06:18, 6 March 2017 (UTC)
