Una idea estupenda

Hola a tod@s. La verdad es que lo de crear un capítulo local de la Fundación Wikimedia me parece una idea estupenda para promover la participación y también para colaborar en la financiación de los proyectos. Precisamente me he interesado sobre si existía ya una Wikimedia España porque sería genial el poder desgrabarse en la declaración de la renta de todas las donaciones que se hagan a la fundación. Yo soy socio de dos ONG y sé que hace falta que legalmente sean declaradas de utilidad pública [1]. Pero parece que la figura de las fundaciones también ofrece esa ventaja a los que hagan donaciones a las mismas (buscar "fundaciones" en [2]). Es increíble cómo se lo curran en otros capítulos como el de Alemania, realmente se mueven mucho para promocionar la Wikipedia y los otros proyectos. ¡Es una iniciativa demasiado buena como para no copiarla aquí! Ya me he suscrito, aunque al principio he dudado porque el dominio era de una página argentina (también habrá que alquilar unos dominios específicos). —surueña 09:53, 24 December 2008 (UTC)
Lo que note, es que la lista es algo lenta (me refiero que para poder concretar esto, habra que moverse a este ritmo con el que estamos comentando) Por mi experiencia (y mas en asuntos de ong's), si logramos generar algo de "ganas" en un par de personas, para mitad de año (o incluso antes), podremos armar la Fundación (y dentro de los objetivos a concretar ASAP, pues lograr q sea declarada de interes publico, asi las donaciones y cuotas sociales pueden ser deducibles de impuestos!)
Pero primero lo primero: como dices, quizas tengamos que intentar tener una web "es", asi comenzamos a caminar solos. Yo no registraria ningun dominio, sin antes contar con almenos un "visto bueno" de alguien de la comunidad (participar firmando, es algo nuevo para mi en la comunidad, y quiero ser respetuoso) Luego, obvio q se transmitiria a nombre de la fundacion el dominio. Yo como soy programador, puedo hacer hueco en mi server, configurar un mediawiki, y asi, comenzar esta aventura (es q llegar a esta pagina, a menos q tengas el bookmark...) Wikimedia.es como es de esperarse, esta registrado (...) en .es en todas sus formas... pero mediawiki aun no tiene registrado el ".org.es". Asi q podria encargarme de armar un sitio, te parece sureña? El asunto es... q dominio registramos? Mediawiki.org.es te suena bien? Estoy de acuerdo en que tener una web específica es uno de los primeros pasos, y si sabes montar un servidor con mediawiki pues por favor, ¡siéntete libre de comenzar ese primer paso! Yo voy a intentar también comunicarme con toda la gente que a priori estaba interesada en poner en marcha el capítulo, que como ganas hay tenemos que aprovecharlas para montar la Wikimedia local. Vale, entonces hoy dejame brindar, pero mañana, cuando pase la resaca, me dispongo a iniciar esto (registrare el q t comentaba x email, por favor, respondeme, vale?) Cuando registras un dominio, hay que esperar un poco, hasta q se vuelva operativo (hasta que repliquen los dns) OK, normalmente es mucho menos, pero ese es el maximo. Luego, instalar y configurar las cosas no debiera tardarme mucho (crees q seria conveniente instalar un sistema de blogs?) Bueno, antes de nada comentar que lo del mail al que se refiere Ledesmapineiro tiene que ver simplemente con lo del dominio, para evitar a los squatters, no es que queramos mantener ninguna discusión en secreto ni nada (todo habrá luego que decidirlo entre todos). Por mi parte, me estoy leyendo estos días todo los mensajes de la lista de correo, así como el borrador de los estatutos y la traducción al inglés. La verdad es que está todo muy avanzado, queda sólo el último empujón. Como estamos en las fechas que estamos voy a aprovechar para terminar de leerme la lista de correo y luego habrá que ponerse manos a la obra para solucionar los últimos flecos que quedan. Pero ¡se está muy cerca de conseguirlo (enhorabuena a todos los implicados, habéis hecho un gran trabajo)! Por cierto, ¿alguien sabe cuánta gente hay ahora mismo suscrita a la lista de correo? Sisi, me referia a eso, obviamente no quiero mantener a nadie al margen de estos temas, simplemente lo comparti con surueña pues estaba activo en el debate. También me lei toda la lista, en algun lado lei que alguien registro wikimedia.org.es, asi que pues bien se podria utilizar ese dominio, que piensan? Falta un ultimo empujon, creo que con un poco de ganas y entusiasmo, podemos en menos de seis meses lograr esto... que piensan? Habeis probado ya a escribir a la lista? Yo en principio sigo suscrito, pero no recibo nada desde hace meses. Os sugiero mirar los logs de la discusion de la lista un poco antes de empezar a moveros. Como le decía a Ledesma por correo, la mayoria de la discusión se hizo en la lista hasta que nos quedamos atascados en el tema Estatutos. Os iría bien mirarte un poco los logs de esa discusión (el link está en la página de meta de wkmedia-es. Los estatutos, como habras visto, estan casi terminados, pero salieron algunas discrepancias como la localización de la sede y otras (un tema recurrente era el representar a todas las lenguas y comunidades autónomas) que simplemente nos agotaron. El chapter sólo saldrá adelante cuando seamos pragmáticos con todo eso. Deberían acabarse los estatutos (así lo pusimos en la agenda de la página) para poder aprobarlos primero por consenso entre los que estamos inscritos en la página principal y luego enviarselos a WM para que les den el visto bueno (es el procedimiento). (Quito sangría) ¡Saludos a todos y feliz 2009!. Después de unas pequeñas vacaciones me he encontrado bastantes cambios y varios correos sobre el capítulo. Me alegro mucho de que nuevos usuarios se sumen a este objetivo que espero que podamos llevar a buen puerto.

Sobre el tema de los dominios me perdí un poco, quizás intencionadamente, porque lo considero un tema secundario, pienso que hasta que no se constituya la asociación no nos hacen falta dominios, ¿para qué vamos a tener dominios registrados si no tenemos asociación? :). Por eso creo que lo principal es concentrarse en revisar los estatutos y terminar su redacción, espero que en unos días pueda enviar algún correo a la lista a este respecto.

Estoy de acuerdo con elisardojm, hay una lista de tareas lo bastante densa y urgente. Lo del dominio se puede añadir, pero no creo que sea el asunto que nos deba llenar la lista de correo por el momento... Estado del proyecto

Por lo poco que he visto en la lista de tareas este proyecto esta parado en el punto de los estatutos. Por lo que propongo:

  • Unirnos para terminarlo, ya que hay algunos interrogantes y deberíamos de sustituirles.(Por ejemplo el punto de actividades, sustituir por encuentros, actividades didacticas, etc...) Y si nadie dice mas tomarles por terminados.
  • Hacer una votación en un periodo breve de tiempo para aceptarlos. (Se podria ir creado la pagina ya ¿no?)

Finalmente también esta parada en los responsables; si falta gente para crear la asociación yo me propongo, por que conozco un poco la creación de asociaciones juveniles y esta no creo que sea demasiado diferente. Pero antes que nada salgan voluntarios ya los futuros miembros de la directiva. --Davidmartindel 10:16, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

Blog del proyecto

Hola a todos/as. Como se habló hace unas semanas en la reunión por IRC, hemos empezado un blog sobre nuestro proyecto de Wikimedia España: Blog del proyecto. La idea es que el blog sirva como espacio de noticias, ideas, opiniones, intercambio y encuentro en este proceso de creación de la asociación y capítulo que va tomando fuerza. Cualquiera de los que estamos interesados podemos escribir una entrada en el blog. Simplemente es necesario, para daros acceso de editores, que lo comentéis por el IRC o en la lista (o enviándome un correo privado). De momento está puesta la bienvenida y las ideas iniciales del blog. Según se vayan realizando encuentros preparatorios, se tengan más noticias, etc, se va actualizando.

Puedes apuntarte a la lista de correo para seguir las conversaciones, y también puedes ir por las reuniones de IRC, los domingos a las 19:30. El borrador de los estatutos están siendo revisados, puedes echar una mano allí. Otra cosa para hacer es ayudar a organizar el encuentro de Andalucía, en el que estás apuntado, contacta con los usuarios a ver qué se necesita o si hay alguien a quien se pueda avisar. También puedes dar aviso a otra gente que conozcas y que pienses que puede estar interesada en este tema. Por cosas que hacer que no sea!! :). Noticia de elecciones para constituir Wikipedia en España

Hola, viendo esta buena noticia que han dado en Wikipedia (y ya que está por favor repliquenlá en todos los proyectos hermanos menores en español de Wikipedia), quería transmitirle una preocupación que tengo. En Wikinoticias somos pocos los editores activos, y no tenemos ningún editor activo de España, somos todos de latinoamérica. Así, ya que están formando Wikimedia España, les pido si nos pueden hechar una mano para que el proyecto tenga editores provenientes de ese país. Toda idea es bienvenida, así que pueden ir al café por cualquier cosa, por ejemplo, en algún momento se habló de que se podía hacer un convenio con escuelas de periodismo, para que alumnos editasen en Wikinoticias, si no recuerdo mal, fue en Wikimania en Buenos Aires, pero lamentablemente aún no se ha podido hacer, así que este es un buen tema para trabajar cuando formen Wikimedia España. La verdad es que sería una muy buena oportunidad de darnos a conocer y aunque la asociación no esté formalizada creo que estaría bien intentar realizar algún tipo de presentación o taller. Yo no podría participar directamente (no vivo en Madrid), pero podría intentar ayudar a crear algún material de apoyo si se quiere realizar esta iniciativa. ¿No sería más interesante enviar esta información a la lista de correo?. Me permito sugerir que alguno contacte directamente con el coordinador general, es una decisión ejecutiva, así que cuando a su juicio es de interés para ambos la asistencia del que sea y hay motivos suficientes como para no poderse haber solicitado en plazo, se suele hacer una "excepción". Tampoco se pierde nada por intentarlo y, en todo caso, ya nos ponen en la lista de interesados para el próximo año y seguramente inviten a alguno para personarse para éste como deferencia. Ordenación de participantes

A estas alturas que ya está esto bastante rodado, ¿por qué no borramos de la lista de participantes a los que están en rojo y blanco?. Toda la gente que sigue en el proceso se ha actualizado, a día de hoy el que no lo ha echo es porque ha desaparecido o no le interesa. Además quedarán en el historial por si es necesario. The comments done by particular persons only express the opinion of these persons, and not WM-ES. The Comments of Mr. Carrancio is his own and does not have why represent those of the majority of the implied ones in WM_ES. The only valid opinions are the expressed ones formally for the Board of WM-ES and those who appear in the Bylaws and regulations (as same in Amical, I suppose). In this respect, I can assure that WM-ES it does not have any intention of " appropriating " of initials of any type. WM - ES it does not have legal authority to give or to remove initials; this legal authority is of the WMF, I think. En relación a cierto comentario vertido en Internet, en la Lista Pública de WM-ES, [3]por una persona que se identificó como Gustau Navarro Barba, en el que se insinuaba que WM_ES podría actuar de manera poco clara solo para obtener dinero, la Junta Directiva de WM_ES desea hacer saber que cualquier comentario de esta índole, o que por cualquier motivo propague, señale, comente o de cualquier manera deje entender la imputación de un delito a WM_ES, sus órganos de gobierno o sus socios, hecha con conocimiento de su falsedad o temerario desprecio hacia la verdad, así como la acción o expresión que lesione la dignidad de los anteriormente citados, menoscabando su fama o atentando contra su propia estimación, serán objeto de acciones legales, incluidas las penales, y serán denunciadas ante las autoridades competentes.

La Junta Directiva de WM_ES perseguirá con todos las acciones a su alcance a toda persona física o jurídica que perpetre cualquiera de las conductas señaladas arriba y está dispuesta a emplear cuantos medios sean necesarios para preservar la honorabilidad de la Asociación, sus órganos de gobierno y/o las personas que las componen. De nuevo, por enésima vez, las opiniones del Sr. Carrancio son de su exclusiva incumbencia y no tienen porqué representar ni representan oficialmente las de WM-ES. El Sr. Carrancio no es portavoz de WM-ES y si efectúa cualquiera de las conductas reseñadas más arriba, se procederá de igual modo. No me parece necesario explicar la diferencia que hay entre las dos manifestaciones, pero si me veo obligado, lo haré. En cuanto a tomar acciones legales, el que advierte de acudir a los tribunales en defensa de lo que estima sus derechos no amenaza. Propuesta para la modificación de los términos de uso de la WMF

Hola a todos. Perdonad si no es el sitio más apropiado pero creo que esta página la vigilan varias personas y es mejor que ir de discusión en discusión. Si alguien quiere poner aviso en el café de eswiki también pueden hacerlo (yo estoy fuera por el momento).

Os informo que se ha propuesto la modificación de los términos de uso de la Fundación. La versión actual es wmf:Terms of Use. A grandes rasgos los términos de uso pasarían de ser un simple acuerdo de licencia para ser ampliado con un listado de actividades admitidas y prohibidas (por ejemplo, el acoso, los ataques a usuarios, pasarían de no sólo ser una violación a las políticas locales de comportamiento, sino que sería una infracción a los términos de uso del sitio y por ende razón suficiente para expulsarte).

Pero también hay otras cosas más serias como que nos hacen renunciar a nuestros Tribunales de Justicia en caso de que tengamos una disputa con la Fundación y ésta no es responsable más que 100 $ por daños (¿?¿?).

Wikimedia LGBT+
Wikimedia LGBT+ is a proposed thematic organization that seeks to promote the development of content on Wikimedia projects which is of interest to LGBT+ communities. Proposed activities include outreach at LGBT events, Wikimania and other Wikimedia events, an international campaign called Wiki Loves Pride, and work on safe space policies, among other collaborations and interwiki projects. Active Wikimedians are welcome to join this cause! Please consider adding your name as a participant/supporter. Current tasks include translating pages, building a strong framework here at Meta, and achieving user group status (with the eventual goal of becoming a thematic organization). Request for comments on Wikimedia user group logos

This is an update from the Wikimedia Affiliations Committee. Translations are available.

The Affiliations Committee is requesting comments on proposed best practices for Wikimedia user group logos. The committee will seek community input until Saturday, May 24, 2014. After considering the community's input, the Affiliations Committee will publish on Meta-Wiki guidelines for Wikimedia user group logos.

There is already a standard format used by chapters, and that format is being applied to thematic organizations as well. Chapters and thematic organizations have also worked with Wikimedia Foundation legal in the past on custom logos. Wikimedia user groups may also create custom logos, and the new trademark policy allows for logos to be based off the community or Wikimedia Foundation logos. However, there remains a question of the best practice for standard user group logos.

Wiki Loves Pride

Affiliations Committee call for candidates - September 2014

The Affiliations Committee is looking for new members. The committee's work requires communication with volunteers all over the World, negotiating skills and cultural sensitivity and the ability to understand legal texts. We try to get a healthy mix of different skill sets in our members.

Members are usually selected every twelve months for staggered two-year terms. The applications will be voted on by the current members not seeking re-election, taking into account comments put forward by the committee's members, advisers, WMF staff and board liaisons based on the membership criteria. A final decision will be made by the end of October 2014, with new members expected to join on or around 1 November 2014.

I am pleased to announce that nominations are now being accepted for the 2015 Wikimedia Foundation Elections. This year the Board and the FDC Staff are looking for a diverse set of candidates from regions and projects that are traditionally under-represented on the board and in the movement as well as candidates with experience in technology, product or finance. To this end they have published letters describing what they think is needed and, recognizing that those who know the community the best are the community themselves, the election committee is accepting nominations for community members you think should run and will reach out to those nominated to provide them with information about the job and the election process.

This year, elections are being held for the following roles:

Board of Trustees
The Board of Trustees is the decision-making body that is ultimately responsible for the long term sustainability of the Foundation, so we value wide input into its selection. There are three positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the board elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC)
The Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) makes recommendations about how to allocate Wikimedia movement funds to eligible entities. There are five positions being filled. More information about this role can be found at the FDC elections page.

Funds Dissemination Committee (FDC) Ombud
The FDC Ombud receives complaints and feedback about the FDC process, investigates complaints at the request of the Board of Trustees, and summarizes the investigations and feedback for the Board of Trustees on an annual basis. The candidacy submission phase lasts from 00:00 UTC April 20 to 23:59 UTC May 5 for the Board and from 00:00 UTCApril 20 to 23:59 UTC April 30 for the FDC and FDC Ombudsperson. Requests for comments on Wikimedia user groups approval process and agreements

The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee is requesting comments on the approval process and agreements for Wikimedia user groups.

Wikimedia user groups are groups of Wikimedia users who support and promote the Wikimedia projects in the offline world by organizing meetups and other projects. The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee's responsibilities include approval of new Wikimedia user groups.

The committee will seek community input until Friday, May 1, 2015. The committee will then review the community's input, and publish the new process and agreements on Meta-Wiki. The committee will again seek community input approximately six months after any changes are adopted to gauge effectiveness and if any additional changes are necessary.

The Wikimedia Affiliations Committee is pleased to introduce the launch of the Wikimedia Affiliates mailing list, which is basically a place for all the affiliates (chapters, thematic organizations, user groups) to discuss issues related to affiliates, make announcements to other affiliates, and collaborate on activities and community-wide events. The idea is to help facilitate the dialogue affiliates across our movement, plus collaborative discussions like community-wide activities, joint edit-a-thons, regional conferences, blog/report posts, or other communications from affiliates.

Each Wikimedia movement affiliate is allocated three spots on the mailing list. All affiliates may contact the Affiliations Committee to request additional spots if needed.

Hi everyone,

This is to inform all Wikimedia contributors that a straw poll seeking your involvement has just been started on Meta-Wiki.

As some of your might be aware, a small group of Wikimedia volunteers have proposed a banner campaign informing Wikipedia readers about the urgent situation of our fellow Wikipedian, open source software developer and Creative Commons activist, Bassel Khartabil. An exemplary banner and an explanatory page have now been prepared, and translated into about half a dozen languages by volunteer translators.

We are seeking your involvement to decide if the global Wikimedia community approves starting a banner campaign asking Wikipedia readers to call on the Syrian government to release Bassel from prison. We understand that a campaign like this would be unprecedented in Wikipedia's history, which is why we're seeking the widest possible consensus among the community.

Given Bassel's urgent situation and the resulting tight schedule, we ask everyone to get involved with the poll and the discussion to the widest possible extent, and to promote it among your communities as soon as possible.

2015 Affiliations Committee call for candidates

The Affiliations Committee – the committee responsible for guiding volunteers in establishing Wikimedia chapters, thematic organizations, and user groups – is looking for new members!

The main role of the Affiliations Committee is to guide groups of volunteers that are interested in forming Wikimedia affiliates. We review applications from new groups, answer questions and provide advice about the different Wikimedia affiliation models and processes, review affiliate bylaws for compliance with requirements and best practices, and advise the Wikimedia Foundation Board of Trustees on issues connected to chapters, thematic organizations and Wikimedia user groups.

The committee consists of twelve members, six of whom are selected every twelve months for staggered two-year terms.

Key skills

Being a part of the Affiliations Committee requires communication with volunteers all over the world, negotiating skills, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to understand legal texts. We try to get a healthy mix of different skill sets in our members. The key skills and experience that we look for in candidates are:

  • Excitement by the challenge of helping to empower groups of volunteers worldwide.
  • Willingness to process applications through a set, perhaps bureaucratic process.
  • Readiness to participate in political discussions on the role and future of affiliates, models of affiliations, and similar questions.
  • Availability of up to 5 hours per week, and the time to participate in a monthly ~2 hour voice/video meeting.
  • International orientation.
  • Very good communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work and communicate with other languages and cultures.
  • Strong understanding of the structure and work of affiliates and the WMF.
  • Knowledge of different legal systems and experience in community building and organising are a plus.
  • Effective communication skills in other languages are a major plus.
  • Experience with or in an active affiliate is a major plus.
  • Willingness to use one's real name in committee activities (including contacts with current and potential affiliates) when appropriate.

We are looking for people who are not afraid of the workload and are motivated by helping other volunteers to get organized and form communities that further our mission around the world.

Selection process

As a reflection of our commitment to openness, transparency, and bilateral engagement with the Wikimedia community, the 2015 member selection process will include a public review and comment period. All applications received by the committee will be posted on Meta (at Affiliations Committee/Candidates/2015), and the community will be invited to provide comments and feedback about each candidate.

At the end of the public comment period, the applications will be voted on by the members of the committee who are not seeking re-election, taking into account comments put forward by the committee's members, advisors, WMF staff and board liaisons, and the community. A final decision will be made by mid-January 2016, with new members expected to join later that month.

How to apply

If you are interested in joining the committee, please send an application to affcom@lists.wikimedia.org by 31 December 2015. You will get a confirmation that your application was received.

Your application should include the following:

  • Your full name
  • Your contact information (including e-mail address and username)
  • A statement describing your relevant experience, skills, and motivation for joining the committee.

Your statement will be published for community review and feedback, so please do not include any information that you are not comfortable sharing.

Notification of Past Due Chapter Reporting

Greetings,

This is a notification to bring to your attention that your organization is currently past due on its required annual reporting. Chapters and thematic organizations are required to submit 2 reports each year: an activity report and a financial statement covering all accounts and all incoming and outgoing expenses . Both reports must cover the entirety of the 12-month annual period and must be written in English, posted to meta, and linked on the meta Reports page.

This page is used to track how organizations and groups are meeting reporting requirements described in their agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation (e.g. chapter agreements, thematic organization agreements, user group agreements). It is the central place where affiliates can add reports about their activities, share their plans, and even news or social media channels with the wider movement. When new reports are available, organizations and groups should add them to this page to keep their columns up to date.

Annual reporting is due no later than 4 months following the end of an organization's fiscal year.

As noted on the meta Reports page, your organization’s 2015 annual financial reporting became past due in May.

Please be sure to:

  1. Post your 2015 annual financial reporting to the meta Reports page as soon as possible to return to compliance with your chapter agreement.
  2. Check that your groups reports page listing is also up to date for historical record-keeping, and
  3. Please send an email to Wikimedia-l in order to share with a movement-wide audience.

De-Recognition of Affiliates with Long-standing Non-Compliance

Recognition as a Wikimedia affiliate - a chapter, thematic organization, or user group - is a privilege that allows an independent group to officially use the Wikimedia name to further the Wikimedia mission. While most Wikimedia affiliates adhere to the basic compliance standards set forth in their agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation, a protocol has been developed to address the exceptional cases when a Wikimedia affiliate does not meet basic compliance standards and their continued recognition as a Wikimedia affiliate presents a risk to the Wikimedia movement.

In the past year, the Affiliations Committee - with support from Wikimedia Foundation staff - has made a concerted effort to address a handful of chapters with long-standing issues of non-compliance. As a result, in the coming days and months, a small number of chapters that have been unable to return to compliance through their efforts in the past year will not have their chapter agreements renewed. As a consequence, these organizations will no longer have the additional rights to use the Wikimedia trademarks, including the Wikimedia name, that had been granted under those agreements.

If you have questions about what this means for community members in the affected affiliates’ region or language areas, we have put together a basic FAQ. The FAQ talk page is available for additional questions and comments, and the Affiliations Committee is happy to answer questions directly.

Today we are starting a broad discussion to define Wikimedia's future role in the world and develop a collaborative strategy to fulfill that role. You are warmly invited to join the conversation.

There are many ways to participate, by joining an existing conversation or starting your own:

Track A (organized groups): Discussions with your affiliate, committee or other organized group (these are groups that support the Wikimedia movement).

Track B (individual contributors): On Meta or your local language or project wiki.

This is the first of three conversations, and it will run between now and April 15. The purpose of cycle 1 is to discuss the future of the movement and generate major themes around potential directions. What do we want to build or achieve together over the next 15 years?
