Welcome to Meta![edit]

Hello, Fabrice Florin (WMF). Welcome to the Wikimedia Meta-Wiki! This website is for coordinating and discussing all Wikimedia projects. You may find it useful to read our policy page. If you are interested in doing translations, visit Meta:Babylon. You can also leave a note on Meta:Babel or Wikimedia Forum (please read the instructions at the top of the page before posting there). Happy editing!

Hello![edit]

It's been a year since your WMF account was created, congrats! I came by to ask you to categorize new pages you create. It helps make Meta more organized and easier to navigate. Thank you. PiRSquared17 (talk) 02:25, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you, PiRSquared17! I have added categories to these roundtable pages, as requested. Please let me know if these work for you. Cheers Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 15:31, 25 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

user group "afttest-hide" on dewiki[edit]

Hello Fabrice Florin, I have seen, that your account on dewiki is assigend to the group "afttest-hide". It is possible to remove your account from the group? The AFTv5 will be disabled on dewiki and the group will removed. It is cleaner, when nobody is in a user group, when the group is removed. Have you control over the account de:User:Aft5hide or know the people behind that? The group should also removed from there.

If possible, please also remove your sysop rights than the local community has a better overview about local sysops. This should also be done for User:Aft5hide and User:Aft5monitor. Thank you. 84.182.108.24 19:54, 9 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note, which is much appreciated. We are in the process of removing these AFT groups from the German Wikipedia now. Best regards. Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 18:30, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You never responded to my e-mails about Roundtables/Roundtable 2 — why? odder (talk) 12:01, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Tomasz, Thanks for following up. I am sorry that your current setup prevents you from participating in our Roundtables on Google Hangouts.
To address this issue, we would like to schedule an office hours chat on IRC next week with a larger group of Commonists or Wikipedians like you, who would like to contribute to this process as well. I will post publicly about this event and our multimedia planning process in coming days, as soon as we have a few planning docs up on-wiki. An on-wiki discussion will also be started along with that post and related planning doc, by early next week.
I want to make it clear that this Roundtable program is intended to complement existing communication channels, not to supplement them. It helps us to have a focused discussion with small groups of experienced contributors in a high-bandwith multimedia setting, but it is not meant to replace other modes of collaboration with our community.
For now, you can see the report on our last Roundtable meeting here.
Thanks again for your interest, and to be continued. Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 18:28, 12 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ping for 2 Roundtable questions[edit]

Hi. There are 2 threads at the bottom of Talk:Roundtables/Roundtable 1, that you might be able to help with. That's all :) Quiddity (talk) 02:31, 14 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Question(s) for you[edit]

...at [1]. --MF-W 14:41, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks, MF! I responded on that page. Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 20:48, 17 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Translation of Help:Notifications[edit]

Hello! Is there already a translation of this page? On Meta, we prefer having useful things like that translated when possible; however, I would hate to mark for translation a page already translated on MediaWiki.org. Is there already a multilingual help page for Echo? Thanks, PiRSquared17 (talk) 17:38, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PiRSquared17, thanks for checking in about translating our help page. I have started this generic Notifications Help page on MediaWiki.org, but I am not sure how to get it translated. Do you know how I could go about requesting a translation for it? It seems better to translate that generic version, rather than the Meta version, which contains specific references and links to Meta. Let me know what you recommend. Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 06:14, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
See this. By the way, answer this. PiRSquared17 (talk) 23:07, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much for doing this, PiRSquared17! I also answered Kanager's question about why we want to translate 'Help:Notifications' for the purposes of deploying this tool on other wikis. Much appreciated. Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 23:30, 29 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello after 2013 Wikimania Hong Kong[edit]

Hello Fabrice! This is SoHome whom you have met during 2013 Wikimania Hong Kong. Wish we would have further discussion and collaboration about Wikimedia projects and Wikipedia articles in the future! --SoHome Jacaranda Lilau (talk) 06:40, 14 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

MediaViewer on-wiki definitions of modes[edit]

I recall that during the Media Viewer consultation, a few people showed interest in having layouts different from what readers like. I participated and added notes to the effect of it being possible to define new modes (in addition to full screen and light box) on-wiki, using some sort of templates. (HTML markup with $filename, $licencename, and the like inserted all over the place.) This is in line with how people can already edit majority of the wiki interface (sidebar, templates, edit notices, central notices). I don't see this suggestion in the planned improvements list... --Gryllida 05:00, 15 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Draft: Hindi Wiki Sammelan Meetup, February 2015[edit]

Hi Fabrice. I request to kindly post the following report on WMF blog. I hope you've received the email which Tilman sent you. You may also note some of my earlier WMF blogposts. I am in the process of writing a few more blogposts concerning Wikipedia outreach activities and will definitely need your cooperation. Cheers, --Muzammil (talk) 05:03, 24 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Wikimedia Blog/Drafts/Free knowledge author visits European parliament members[edit]

Thanks for looking into it. My understanding is that Dimi z will give it a last polish. We're not yet sure what part of the visit is most "news-able". --Nemo 19:07, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thanks, Nemo and Dimi! Based on your feedback, I'm tentatively putting it into the schedule for this week. If you guys could get the changes done in the next few hours, we may be able to get it out today, after we do our own copy editing. If not, we would push it back to Wednesday, Thursday or Friday, as we have a pre-scheduled post for tomorrow. Please keep us posted. Hope you're well :) Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 19:11, 20 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • I did my last changes, Dimi said it's fine with him. I'm not able to come up with a catchy title, I hope you folks can take care of that. Same if you find some other arrangement of the paragraphs works better. --Nemo 20:27, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Thanks, Nemo. I will look at it tomorrow, work on a title and make any final copy edits, then run it by you one last time. My goal is to publish it on Friday morning, around 10am Pacific Time. Be well ... Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 23:21, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Hi Nemo: I just made my edits on the draft, to make it easier to read by a general audience. I also proposed a new title, added a summary, moved the map to the top as a lead image, and clarified its caption. Let me know what you think, and feel free to tweak it as needed. I still plan to publish on Friday by 10am PT (19:00 your time?) ... Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 01:56, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
    • Hi Nemo: I have now published your post here on the Wikimedia blog. I hope you're happy with the final version. Please let me know if you recommend any final tweaks. (I couldn't find the correct link for the ITRE opinion on public domain, which was broken on your draft -- so I just linked to their main site for now.) Thanks for representing the free knowledge movement in Brussels, and for taking the time to share your experience with our community! Fabrice Florin (WMF) (talk) 22:24, 24 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
