Grazie per la tua contributione, e benvenuta su Meta.

I like your draft. Visitors are usually fond of finding information in one sight, so I would like to add some current statistics again, but it is a very nice idea to remind them Wiktionary is a very fast growing project and the description might be outdated (although I hope our updating would be in time!). Link to our portal is very effective. I like your improvement.
"Everyone can edit" is another good addition. I love to keep it. If you find something to add, please feel free to edit it. As Wiktionary, your editr is always welcome ;-) --Aphaia | WQ2翻訳中 | talk 14:09, 5 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hello Sabine! How are you? I'm trying to pull together translations for the current Quarto; I know that Vala's thesis is not featured this time, but hopefully we will have an it: version again :)

Also, any leads re: interpreters for Wikimania this summer? We probably need spanish and italian interpreters, in addition to french and german. +sj | Translate the Quarto | + 12:35, 16 May 2005 (UTC)Reply

Translations

[edit]

Hi,

I'm willing to help with translations (En→Pl) but it's not completely clear to me how it is going to work. I'm not attending the Conference so I will only be able to translate working at home. Is it OK ?

Ciao. ^^ Beren85

In this period I am mainly working on WiktionaryZ. Therefore please write any messages to me on my user page there. Thank you! --Sabine 17:48, 21 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

NAP press contact

[edit]

As a member of the Communications Committee, I added you as our official nap press contact. How many projects operate in nap, just WP? -- Zanimum 15:38, 28 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Does this mean you essentially speak Belarusian? [1] -- Zanimum 15:41, 28 March 2006 (UTC)Reply
We don't need anyone in any language, but since you're now on the list, we might as well add you a second time, if you'd feel comfortable talking in the language. Anyone will do, and we can replace them with a better person, should a better person come along. -- Zanimum 03:45, 29 March 2006 (UTC)Reply

Press contact details

[edit]

If you are receiving this message, you are either a new, existing, or possible future press contact for one of the languages you speak. What does this mean, being a press contact?

The Wikimedia Foundation runs a Communications Committee, which co-ordinates requests for interviews from the press. When we receive a request for an interview, often the journalist wants to interview someone that speaks their "native tongue", or someone that lives in the same country as their publication. For this reason, it is important the the Communications Committee keeps an up-to-date log of contributors that they can trust to represent the community in a professional manner.

This list of press contacts has started to grow. The goal is to eventually have at least one trusted user on the list from every country in the world, and one user for every language that the Foundation runs a project in.

What are your responsibilities? Whenever a journalist requests an interview, either by phone, by e-mail, or (rarely) in person, you are able to either answer the interview request, or pass the request off to another user that you trust. Whenever a newsworthy milestone is reached on your project, you should help co-ordinate the creation of a press release, and once it's ready, send it to me to post in your language's press room.

Any questions, comments, or concerns? Contact me directly. -- en:user_talk:zanimum

Hilfe:Übersetzung

[edit]

Hallo SabineCretella, ich plane eine Übersetzung der Seite DynamicPageList. Meine Fragen dazu: 1. Kann eine solche Seite hier veröffentlicht werden? 2. Wo wird diese gegebenenfalls verlinkt?

Hintergrund meiner Frage: Viele Benutzer von de.wikinews verstehen DPL nicht ganz, daher wollte ich eine Hilfeseite zu diesem Thema erstellen. Dazu würde auch ein Link auf Meta gehören. Schöner wär's natürlich, wenn ich auf eine deutsche Übersetzung dieser Seite verlinken könnte. (Ich werde hier auf deine Antwort warten, wenn du so freundlich wärst.) Gruß --Wolf-Dieter 10:21, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hallo Wolf-Dieter,

--Sabine 13:59, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hallo Sabine, vielen Dank für deine Antwort. Die Übersetzung ist jetzt fertig (zur Korrektur). Kleine Anpassungen habe ich mir erlaubt. Dazu gehören Beispiele aus den deutschen Wikinews. Ich weiß nicht genau, ob das gerne gesehen wird (oder ob es neutraler gehalten werden muss). Aber das ließe sich ja noch ändern. Hier ist der Link: DynamicPageList (de). Gruß --Wolf-Dieter 15:59, 1 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Special Projects Committee

[edit]

Hi, The Special Projects Committee of the Foundation has decided to create a subcommittee about the creation of new language instances of our actual projects and proposed you (and me, as well) as its coordinators. I have to confess that I've never participated in the creation of new language projects, however, thanks to your recent paper I'm catching up.

If you accept this nomination, we could start by inviting other people to conform the subcommittee and launch an open discussion about the subject which is: to recommend policies for starting such projects and setting related standards, such as their abbreviations and fonts.

Your proposal seems an excellent stating point. We'll try to find if there is consensus about it, if there are alternative proposals on particular subjects, technical issues if any, etc.

The SPC proposed June 30th as a date for an initial activity report, so we'd better start soon.

Waiting to hear from you, --Ascánder 13:49, 31 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Translator templates.

[edit]

See Translator deu-eng and Translator eng-deu, where I added some stuff at the end to better deal with unwanted entries in categories. Now the template itself, category pages and sample uses can be kept from appearing in the list of translators. Please consider using {{Translator ksh-deu|skipcat=yes}} where appropriate, and use the code from the above two template in new templates as well.

How about additional templates saying "... translates ... into ... and inverse" ?

Translator's template for French-Turkish on meta

[edit]

Thank you for adding that one - I just noted that it is built differently and it gave me the idea on how we can simplify the templates in such a way that they can easily be spread by a bot to any project. I will try it out and then let you know :-) Sabine

You're welcome. I have entered only the templates i needed. I think for others, people who need could create. In fact I do translations of articles that I like to Turkish Wikipedia. I entered those templates to my userpage here in meta in case someone need something to be translated to Turkish. Keep up the good work :) --Mskyrider 16:19, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Transcom conf ... Should I be superstitious, will I get an answer in time ?

[edit]

This is the 13th question: Aphaia tells me that you can elucidate what the mechanics of a meeting like the Transcom of this evening are. The first problem is immediate: Explorer does not seem to find 'irc.freenode.net'. Secondly if and when I get onto the site then how do I proceed? Thirdly: UTC is 1 hr behind CET at the present, OK ?

Hello,

I spend weeks to set up an effective and ergonomic system to centralize the traduction efforts in the french wikipedia.

See fr:Projet:Traduction

Now, I'm considering to port its infrastructure to the english wikipedia, and then let people import it elsewhere (for example in Meta).

Obviously, it would be very useful if the system was coherent between the different languages of wikipedia (and meta) like it is for Babel.

I had like you did the idea to use templates on each translators home page (and then categories) instead of a list for people who wants to participate to the traduction

this template and the category fr:Category:Wikitraducteur_en are 100% equivalent to Category:Translators_fra-eng :

  • The syntax we use in :fr is {{Boîte utilisateur|Traduction|Traduction/de|Traduction/en}}
  • Once ported to :en, this should become {{user box|Translation|Translation/de|Translation/fr}}
  • The syntax you use is {{{{Transl-1|fra-eng|fra-ger}}

It would be great if we could standardize on the syntax while it is possible. It is possible now, because there are not a lot of people who uses transbabel here, and I haven't port fr:Projet:Traduction to the english wikipedia yet.

Your syntax is better because it does not assume the language used as target. But it invents its own template (transl-1234) which doesn't seem necessary to me (we can just use the user boxes), and it uses three-letter languages codes, while wikipedians are much more used to two-letters languages code. (fr.wikipedia.org, {{Babel-4|fr|de..}}. It would be more simple to use two-letters languages code, and three-letters language code only if it doesn't exist.

So our common syntax could be :

  • {{user box|Translation|Translation/fr-en|Translation/fr-de|Translation/nap-de}}

What do you think ?

Please continue the discussion on User talk:GerardM and leave me a message to warn me for your answer : http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Emailuser/Jmfayard-fauxnez

Just for your informationn

Hello Sabine Cretella. Do you have any objections to publicly archiving your IRC and email conversations with the language subcommittee? —{admin} Pathoschild 22:03:07, 03 March 2007 (UTC)

As long as all private parts from e-mails are excluded (things that do not strictly belong to the language subcom or texts copies from third parties) I don't have a problem. See: in e-mails one often includes information that is from third parties and we may publish these parts only if these other people agree. --Sabine 06:56, 4 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

nap.wikipedia.org

[edit]

Bonjour Sabine.

Well, I do find the translation system here simple. I can't see where confusing come from. Volunteers around here are used to this layout and usually gets the work done through it. Me, on the other hand, I'm writing in to say that from the link you left on fy:, I can find a project with several parts under development, but not what parts are translation ready, or even relevant to a small Wikipedia. Approval of a new Wikipedia for Ottoman Turkish

[edit]

Sabine, As you may know currently there is discussion by Language Subcommittee members regarding the faith of Ottoman Turkish Test Wikipedia. Me and other contributers who have involved in developping the test Ottoman Turkish wikipedia, over the last year, are quite concerned that some members of the committee are opposed to the creation of the active Wikipedia for this language, on the ground of that this is not a live language. May I point out that evenso this is language is not live in sense of being used in media and publications, there are various communities which use this language as a littrary form of their local dialect. For instance Azeris in Iran, and Turkmen in Iraq use this language as litrary form of their language. Also like to point out that, if we concider precedence, currently I know of following historical languges who have active Wikipedia projects:

We appriciate your involvment and other memebrs of the Subcommittee in the discussion and hope for the positive outcome of the decision.

Thank you --Mehrdad 18:14, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your message Sabrina, I understand how life can get busy and of course the real life should take precedence. On a different subject while ago I came across to a talk on a Village_pump equvalant page of Farsi/Persian Wikipedia which your name was mentioned. Last night went and read it again. It was regardig translation of some articles who admins did not want to place in the Farsi/Persian Wikipedia. I am an admin in Azeri wikipedia and can assure you we would appriciate and be more than happy to accept such a generous offer. I actually read the translated articles, the translation was of an excallant quality. The articles needed minor adjustments for Wikipedia . The problem is the few admins in the Persian Wiki who are all friends and associates are all belive in extream pure language and trying to bring a reform into the Persian by "cleansing" it from so colled forign words. The litrary Persian like any other modern language have many forign fords, in Farsi this are mostly Arabic. The translator(s) rightly so used the correct words, and hence got accused of improper translation. In any case if there is any way we can get help with translated articles, we will celebrate in Azerbaicani wikipedia. --Mehrdad 17:06, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Proposal to close Sranantongo Wikipedia

[edit]

As a Suriname national, I was very pleased to see a link to Wikipedia in Sranantongo, which is our native tongue.

However, I became more and more furious, the more I browsed into the Sranantongo Wikipedia. I did recognize some of the used words, but virtually none of the sentences. There are even words used that I can't find on translation sites for the language. The grammar is nowhere near perfect. It gives me the feeling that the translators involved created their own language, based on the original Sranantongo that we speak in Suriname.

If the "native speakers" on this project are really native speakers of the languages, I wonder how they can allow this insult to our country by insulting our language.

What are the steps for submitting a proposal to close this Wikipedia? I think it's best if this Wikipedia is removed from the public's eye, before people start viewing it as a definitive source of information. To ensure a speedy process I'm contemplating to write a letter to all our local newspapers and in communities where Suriname nationals gather, to bring this to their attention. I'm sure this project will get a lot of nasty feedback from angry Suriname nationals. To be sure that it all goes according to the rules, I want to submit a proposal to close.
