Beyond the Asylum[edit]

I'm happy to help with your editathon if you still need people to do so. It's very likely that I'll be available but wont be able to confirm 100$ until about a week before. Thryduulf (talk: meta · en.wp · wikidata) 19:35, 29 October 2016 (UTC)

That would be great, thank you! Let me know if/when you know. Zeromonk (talk) 07:55, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
I plan to be there for the whole day... Gordo (talk) 13:18, 31 October 2016 (UTC)

Travel plans?[edit]

Are you travelling Monday 9th? Seems there is a TUBE STRIKE! Gordo (talk) 12:52, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Hi Gordo, sorry I didn't reply to you before I left. I did try to, but then my phone froze, and then there was dreaded PACKING to do - basically I got distracted and forgot, but I was very grateful for the warning! Looking forward to catching up with you all at the next meetup - and hopefully hosting a little gathering here at the Wellcome before I leave! Zeromonk (talk) 08:09, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
You cannot leave! Gordo (talk) 09:38, 3 February 2017 (UTC)
Haha given the choice I'd really rather not, but there we go! In completely unrelated matters - one of the people who came to a training session has just finished a page and is desperate for someone experienced to look over her draft - if you get a minute, do you think you could possibly take a look at w:Draft:Margaret, Lady Moir? I don't seem to have the time to give it the attention it deserves at the moment, and I don't want her to have to wait too long! Zeromonk (talk) 16:04, 3 February 2017 (UTC)

Editor Training this week[edit]

Dear Andrew D. ClemRutter, Edwardx, Geni, Gordo, Joseph2302, Jscammel, Khintye, Leutha, MassiveEartha, Paul W, Philafrenzy, Samwalton9, Thryduulf, WereSpielChequers, (plus anyone I've missed!),

This is a request for help, if anyone is free at such late notice!

I've just been told my by co-organiser for a schools wiki-training session at Imperial on Wednesday that they've had much more demand than expected and there will be about 2 classes-worth rather than 1 coming along (they'll all be in the same room, but there'll just be more of them than I was expecting!). So if anyone is free on Wednesday to help teach some secondary school students about wiki and help to improve some pages on women scientists, that would be enormously helpful. I'll do an overview talk from 11:30 - 12:15, then they'll have lunch, and then from 13:00 - 16:00 they'll be editing wiki.
Also, the Institution of Engineering and Technology really enjoyed the last wiki-session, so they've booked in for an Electricity editathon on Thursday. That session should only be around 15 people, but backup is always welcome and there is the usual free Wellcome lunch on offer!

Hope you're all well, Zeromonk (talk) 10:26, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

P.S. I'm so sorry not to have seen you all in a while - the past month and a bit has been mad with two best friends' weddings and a seriously hefty workload doing research for a government enquiry.

Might make the afternoon session. Where is the session at Imperial? Big place! Gordo (talk) 10:49, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
  • @Zeromonk: I've already signed up for the Thursday event. I'm not sure of the location for the Wednesday event but will try to attend that too. I suggest you post something on the English Wikipedia as well as here on meta as I only got a ping for this when I happened to visit the German Wikipedia -- my notification settings on the English Wikipedia must be set high. Andrew D. (talk) 10:59, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
I'd be there if not for this being my final week of thesis writing! Samwalton9 (talk) 10:59, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the replies all! Good thinking, I'll try English Wiki too, good job you're such a wiki polymath! We'll be in Chemistry RCS 1, entrance off of Imperial College Road (opposite Skempton and at the Exhibition Road end). @Samwalton9: very best of luck with finishing your thesis!!
Skempton you say? Interesting! Always nice to find an archive. Gordo (talk) 11:48, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
  • @Zeromonk: I have to work both dates. Sorry to miss them, had great fun last week. (@Samwalton9: good luck with your writing up) MassiveEartha (talk) 12:17, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Sorry, I'm working both days. Joseph2302 (talk) 14:54, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for the replies guys! Got to love an archive :) Zeromonk (talk) 18:54, 12 June 2017 (UTC)

I've just seen this, but should be able to make it. user:KTC is a maybe. Thryduulf (talk: meta · en.wp · wikidata) 23:51, 13 June 2017 (UTC)

@Thryduulf:@LoopZilla:@KTC:If anyone is coming along this morning you might have trouble getting into the building - might be easier to come along at lunch before the actual editing begins! Either way, ping me an email (to a.white@wellcome.ac.uk) and I'll meet you / get one of the scientists to come and meet you! Zeromonk (talk) 09:09, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
Apologies for absence. Gordo (talk) 11:59, 14 June 2017 (UTC)

I have just received the alert! Some gremlin in the system- hope it went well.--ClemRutter (talk) 01:40, 3 July 2017 (UTC) @ClemRutter: it did, thank you! Look forward to telling you all about it soon and making some more plans for future ones :) Zeromonk (talk) 06:33, 4 July 2017 (UTC)

Wikipedia Library User Group is being renamed![edit]

Hello! In the past few months, the Wikipedia Library User Group has been undergoing some major planning and developments. We just finished our very first open call with the user group members, which was a great success (see the meeting minutes). If you joined us during the meeting, we’d like to thank you for your interest. If not, not to worry, we have lots of things planned for the user group in which you can participate.

This message is to inform you that based on the input received from the user group members and the founding members, it was agreed that the Wikipedia Library User Group’s name be reconsidered by a voting process. As a valued member of the user group, we’d like to invite you to vote on the list of potential names. You can vote by following this link. The poll will run for a timeframe of two weeks. Sent by MediaWiki message delivery on behalf of user group founding members --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 02:59, 17 October 2017 (UTC)

Thank you[edit]

Thank you for your participation in reviewing the Project Grant for the position Wikipedian in Residence at the University of Pittsburgh. I am not posting this thank you simply because you endorsed the project but I believe that community feedback has made this Project better. Please feel free to give additional feedback regarding this grant on the talk page if you would like.

The Best of Regards, Barbara (WVS) (talk) 23:02, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

[Wikipedia & Education User Group] Updates: November 2018[edit]

Greetings,

Integrating Wikimedia with education is a powerful strategy for the outreach of Wikimedia projects. Realising this concept, a group of leaders promoted this and formed the Wikipedia Education Collaborative. After some time, this evolved to become a user group, officially recognised by the Affiliations Committee in June 2018. The user group had its first board elections earlier in September. In the process to formalise activities and give a shape the user group for long-term sustainability, we are now revamping our processes. Thanks for supporting us during incubation stages, we are now inviting you to formally join the user group by following the instructions on the members' page. Being a member will allow you to be a part of this wonderful collaboration and also do interesting stuff.

Kind regards
On behalf of Wikipedia and Education UG, MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 11:44, 10 November 2018 (UTC)
