WikiMemes User Group (WMM) is a group of users who loves to take an ironic look to their activity and is passionate of internet memes.

Objectives[edit]

  • Document the internet meme culture and the Internet culture
  • Organize information on the topic in the various wiki projects
  • Communicate about the projects through memes and new media content, always with full due regard of everyone involved and strict respect of the CoC and in particular to appeal younger generations

Activities[edit]

  • Make memes and jokes on the Wikimedia projects and upload them onto the social media pages and on Commons where the license is compatible, in order to spread correct knowledge about them and make them more fascinating for potential newcomers
  • Reuse Commons and freely-licensed content
  • Spread the word and knowledge about Wikimedia projects in and outside the Wiki world
  • Engage and retain Wikimedians exploiting fun
  • Promote Wikimedia projects to newbies in a fun way
  • Work on memes and Internet culture content on Wikimedia projects
  • Cooperation with other organizations and social network pages active in this field
  • Monthly call or chat about Wikimedia + memes (communication of Wikimedia projects and memes on Wikimedia project), starting from December 2021
  • Online editathons/contests about Wikimedia + memes (Internet culture depiction on Wikimedia projects, categorization, organization and management), proposed for March/April 2022

History[edit]

  • The Facebook page was created on July 30th, 2019
  • The Telegram group was created on June 23th, 2020
  • The Instagram account was created on June 26th, 2021
  • The User Group was formed and proposed on Aug 26th, 2021
  • The social media pages were renamed into @wikimemesug on Nov 6th, 2021.
  • Who knows which social network we'll use during the summer of 2022...

Contact us / Join us[edit]

To talk to us either use the Talk page, contact one of the members, or find us on your social network of choice. We use the Telegram group as the main avenue of discussion (imagine the level of discussion a meme user group can have, asd). To join us mark yourself under the Members section and reach out to the existing members. Everyone is warmly invited to join us, we're planning a lot of fun activities!
